TikTok’s AI content control is a recommendation preference, not a switch that blocks every AI-generated video. TikTok has been testing an AI-generated-content option within Manage topics to show people more or less AI content in the For You feed. It may not be available on every account or in every region.
If you cannot find the option, you can still shape recommendations with tools such as Not interested and keyword filters. TikTok’s AI labels can help identify synthetic media, but neither a label nor the absence of one proves whether a video is truthful or entirely human-made.
What TikTok’s AI content control does
The AI-generated-content preference is part of TikTok’s Manage topics feed controls. If it is enabled for your account, you can adjust how much AI-generated content TikTok recommends in your For You feed. Moving the preference toward less AI content can reduce its frequency; it is not a universal block, and TikTok says changes to topic preferences may take time to affect recommendations.

Manage topics applies to the For You feed. It does not promise to filter AI content from the Following feed, search results, profiles, inbox, or videos shared outside TikTok. Nor does it replace reporting content that is deceptive or harmful.

TikTok described the AI preference as a feature being tested, including in updates dated November 2025 and March 2026; its July 2026 update still referred to these features as being tested. Availability can vary by account and region, so an announcement does not mean every user has the control. TikTok’s announcement and its later update describe that rollout.
How to find and adjust the setting
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button, then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Content preferences, then Manage topics.
- If an AI-generated-content option appears, move its slider toward more or less AI content and tap Save.
You may also reach the controls from a For You video: tap Share, then Why this video → Adjust your For You → Manage topics. The exact labels can vary with app version or localization. TikTok’s Manage topics help page documents the standard route and explains the For You feed scope.

If the AI option is missing
It may not have reached your account or region, or TikTok may have changed the test or menu. Update the app, close and reopen it, and check Manage topics again or try the route from Why this video. If it remains absent, use the other feed controls below. There is no reliable basis to recommend changing your account region or reinstalling the app to unlock a test feature.
Other ways to see less unwanted AI content
- Choose Not interested: On an unwanted video, press and hold or open the sharing menu and select Not interested, where available. This gives TikTok feedback about that recommendation; you may need to repeat it.
- Filter keywords: In content preferences, use keyword filters for terms commonly associated with content you want to avoid, such as “AI generated,” “AIGC,” “deepfake,” “voice clone,” or “AI animation.” TikTok has also described Smart Keyword Filters, which can include related terms. Filters work on text and related signals, not on production method itself: a video may contain AI without using any matching caption, hashtag, spoken words, or on-screen text. - Refresh the For You feed: A feed refresh is a broader recommendation reset, not an AI-specific filter. Look for it under Settings and privacy → Content preferences if available; the precise interface can vary.
- Use Following for followed accounts: This reduces reliance on For You recommendations, but it cannot prevent followed accounts from posting AI videos.
- Do not mistake Restricted Mode for an AI filter: It is intended to limit some content that may not be suitable for everyone, not to detect or block AI content.
These tools have different jobs: the AI preference adjusts recommendations, keyword filters target terms, a refresh resets recommendations more broadly, and reporting is for potential rule violations. None guarantees an AI-free TikTok experience.

How TikTok labels AI-generated content
Labels are transparency signals, not a viewer-side block or a truth rating. TikTok uses several distinct approaches:
- Creator disclosure: Creators can use TikTok’s AI-generated-content setting or disclose AI use in the post, such as through text or a hashtag. TikTok may show a label such as “creator labeled as AI-generated.”
- Automatic label: TikTok may apply an “AI-generated” label when its systems identify content made or significantly edited with AI. Signals can include TikTok AI effects, TikTok tools, C2PA Content Credentials, and TikTok’s detection systems. A creator cannot remove a label TikTok applied automatically.
- Content Credentials: C2PA metadata can record information about how media was made or edited. It can help platforms identify provenance, but metadata can be lost during editing or re-uploading.
- Invisible watermarking: TikTok has said it is testing invisible watermarks for certain AI content made with its tools or uploaded with C2PA credentials. This is a TikTok initiative, not a guarantee that every platform or editing path preserves or detects a watermark.
These layers—visible disclosures, metadata, watermark signals, and automated detection—are complementary. A video may lack a label because its creator did not disclose it, detection missed it, provenance data was stripped, or it did not meet the labeling threshold. Conversely, an AI label indicates AI involvement; it does not establish that the video’s claims are false. TikTok’s AI-generated content guidance and labeling update explain its approach.

When to report an AI video
Report content that appears to violate TikTok’s rules—for example, a deceptive deepfake, harmful impersonation, or synthetic media used to spread dangerous misinformation. A label does not make prohibited content acceptable, and an unlabeled video is not automatically a violation.

- Open the post and tap Share, or press and hold the post.
- Tap Report.
- Choose Misinformation, then Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media.
- Tap Submit.
For urgent impersonation, fraud, threats, sexual exploitation, or election-related deception, preserve the post URL, account name, screenshots, and date before reporting. Avoid reposting harmful material to call attention to it. TikTok’s integrity and authenticity rules cover relevant restrictions.

What creators should know
TikTok requires disclosure for realistic AI-generated content and significant AI edits. Examples include making a real person appear to say or do something they did not, substantial face swaps, and realistic synthetic people, places, events, audio, or video. Minor adjustments such as brightness, color, or denoising are different from substantial synthetic alteration. See TikTok’s creator guidance and Community Guidelines for the applicable rules.
TikTok says enabling the AI disclosure does not by itself reduce distribution when the post follows its rules. It also says falsely labeling unaltered content can violate its Terms of Service. Some uses of a person’s likeness are prohibited even when labeled, including depictions of people under 18 and certain uses of private adults without permission; other restrictions cover misleading public-figure depictions and fabricated authoritative sources or crises.
AI disclosure and commercial disclosure are separate. A creator promoting a product or brand may need the relevant commercial-content disclosure as well as an AI label. TikTok explains its content disclosure setting and how to turn it on.
