Eight OnePlus phones and tablets are associated with a promise of three major Android-version upgrades: the OnePlus 12R, 11R, 10R and 10T, Nord 3, and OnePlus Pad, Pad 2 and Pad 3. “Three updates” means three upgrades after the Android version each device launched with—not three more updates from today. The final versions below are policy-based expectations, not a guarantee that every regional or carrier variant has already received them.
OnePlus devices in the three-update group
The list below is reported in current coverage of OnePlus’s three-update devices. The final-version calculation starts from each model’s launch Android version and adds three major Android releases.

For the OnePlus 10T, OnePlus itself said the phone shipped with OxygenOS 12.1 based on Android 12 and would get three major Android updates plus four years of security updates in its launch announcement. For the other entries, treat the listed endpoint as the expected result of the reported policy and launch software, unless OnePlus publishes a model- and region-specific confirmation.

The suffix and launch software matter. The 12R started on Android 14, so three upgrades take it to Android 17. The 11R began on Android 13, so the same number of upgrades takes it to Android 16. That difference does not by itself mean the 11R was promised fewer upgrades.

The same arithmetic explains why the 10R and 10T are expected to finish at Android 15: both launched on Android 12. Their three-upgrade cycle is not three additional versions from 2026 onward.
What counts as a major Android update?
A major update changes the underlying Android version, such as Android 14 to Android 15. It is not the same as a monthly or quarterly security patch, a small bug-fix OTA, a carrier firmware revision, or an OxygenOS feature update that keeps the same Android base. Check both Android version and OxygenOS version on your device; an OxygenOS version number alone does not tell you how many Android generations it has crossed.
Three Android upgrades are not the same as security support
A phone can reach its last promised Android-version upgrade and still receive security patches or maintenance updates. OnePlus’s UK Product Security Update Period policy says smartphones and tablets receive a minimum of three years of security updates following launch, while warning that delivery varies by country and model. It also notes that an OS upgrade can delay a month’s patch, with the new OS version expected to include the latest patches.
That general minimum does not establish a precise security end date for each model. Check OnePlus’s device-specific security listing and your regional support page rather than assuming that the last Android upgrade means the device is immediately unsupported—or that patches continue for a particular number of years beyond that point.
Three updates does not mean three is the maximum
This is a category list, not a ranking of OnePlus devices or a universal cap. Some newer OnePlus models have been associated with a four-major-update policy; cited examples include Nord CE 5, Nord 4 and Nord 5. Newer models are absent here because their support terms differ, not necessarily because they get less support. Check the policy attached to the exact model and region before buying.
Likewise, the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 11 should not be folded into this three-update list just because they are related by name. OnePlus’s OxygenOS 16 compatibility page lists both, but compatibility with one release does not establish a device’s lifetime update count. The 11R is also a distinct device from the OnePlus 11.
OxygenOS 16 and OnePlus’s 2026 software changes
OnePlus’s OxygenOS 16 compatibility page includes the 12R, 11R 5G, Nord 3 5G, OnePlus Pad, Pad 2 and Pad 3. It does not include the 10R or 10T, which is consistent with Android 15 being their expected final major version under the three-upgrade calculation. That is an inference from the compatibility page and launch-version math, not a device-specific final-update announcement.
A compatibility listing means a model is included for that software release; it does not mean every owner has received the OTA. OnePlus says availability and rollout timing can vary by model, country and carrier, and describes its list as a reference rather than an exhaustive guarantee. Carrier-exclusive firmware may follow a carrier-controlled schedule.
There is also a distinction between the Android-version entitlement and the branded software path. In a 2026 U.S. notice, OnePlus said existing devices would continue to receive software updates, security patches and after-sales support. It added that, after ColorOS 17’s official release, eligible existing devices may have an option to update voluntarily to ColorOS. This does not establish that every listed device in every market will automatically move to ColorOS; consult OnePlus’s notice and regional communications for applicable details.

- Open Settings.
- Tap About device or About phone and check Android version and OxygenOS version.
- Return to Settings and open System & updates or Software update, then tap the check-for-updates option.
Labels vary between OxygenOS versions and regions. A published rollout announcement elsewhere is not proof that the update is available for your particular carrier or regional model.
If an update has not arrived
Delays can result from a staged rollout, carrier approval, regional firmware differences, a beta or modified software build, insufficient storage or a paused release. First confirm that the exact model and region are eligible. Then connect to Wi-Fi, make sure the device has adequate charge and storage, back up important data, install any pending prerequisite OTA, restart, and check again later. Use OnePlus’s official updater and support resources.
Do not treat firmware for another region or model as a routine workaround. Cross-region flashing or unofficial software can erase data, affect carrier features or banking and DRM functions, and complicate support. If the official update check remains unclear, ask OnePlus or your carrier using the device’s exact model number.
Should you buy one now?
Compare the remaining support runway with the price and condition, rather than treating all eight devices alike. The 10R and 10T have Android 15 as their expected final major version; the 12R and Pad 2 have later projected endpoints, while the Pad 3’s calculation reaches Android 18. Those endpoints are not promises of a particular OTA date or security-support end date.
- Check the exact regional variant: network bands, eSIM, carrier certification and update timing may differ.
- Inspect used-device condition: battery health and replacement history matter regardless of software eligibility.
- Verify security support separately: a major-version count does not give the exact patch end date.
- Consider software preference: if you specifically want OxygenOS, check the regional roadmap and any ColorOS transition details rather than assuming the name guarantees an unchanged path.
- Weigh tablets separately: Pad updates and features need not roll out on the same schedule as phone updates.
A low price on a 10T or 10R may still suit someone who values the hardware, but neither should be described as having several future Android upgrades. For a purchase made around the projected endpoint, factor the remaining security support, battery condition, regional compatibility and return terms into the decision.
