The Settlers II Gold Edition is now available as a licensed Amiga release, but the headline needs one important correction: the original Commodore Amiga 1200 is not being manufactured again. Look Behind You released the new Amiga version on October 18, 2025, nearly 30 years after The Settlers II first appeared on other platforms. Separately, Retro Games Ltd’s modern full-size recreation, THE A1200, has been associated with the game and is reported to include it among its built-in titles.
These are two related but separate products: a new game release for sufficiently powerful Amiga-compatible systems, and a plug-and-play recreation of the A1200 computer.

What actually returned after nearly 30 years?
The missing item is an official Amiga version of The Settlers II Gold Edition—not a new Commodore-built A1200. The port was developed by Look Behind You under an official Ubisoft Entertainment license. Ubisoft licensed the release, but did not develop the port; Look Behind You is responsible for the 2025 Amiga version. The publisher’s product page identifies the game as an Amiga release and lists its requirements and editions.
The timing is significant because The Settlers made its Amiga debut in 1993, while The Settlers II followed in 1996 on other systems. The Gold Edition is generally associated with the later 1997 release. Describing the gap as “nearly 30 years” is therefore more precise than treating the number as an exact anniversary.

What is included in the Gold Edition?
This is more than a bare conversion of the original sequel. The advertised package includes content associated with the Gold Edition and Mission CD expansion:
- 10 Roman campaigns
- 9 world campaigns
- 130 free bonus maps
- Four playable races: Romans, Asians, Nubians and Vikings
- More than 30 professions
- Six soldier types
- Multiple environments, including lava, ice fields, swamps, forests and winter scenery
- Integrated in-game help and an optimized interface
- English and German support, with French and Polish available in-game
Look Behind You describes the release as a lovingly optimized native Amiga version. That is the publisher’s characterization; the available information does not independently establish performance, loading times, screen scaling, multiplayer support or compatibility with every Amiga configuration.
The major catch: a stock A1200 cannot meet the published requirements
“For Amiga” does not mean “for an unmodified Amiga 1200.” The official minimum requirements list:
- G3 processor running at 800 MHz or faster
- 64 MB of RAM
- AmigaOS 3.2 with WarpUP, or AmigaOS 4.1
- AHI audio
- 500 MB of free storage
- A graphics card recommended for resolutions above 640×480
A stock 1990s A1200 does not have a G3-class processor, 64 MB of memory or the listed operating-system configuration. An upgraded A1200 might be suitable, but an accelerator alone is not enough to guarantee compatibility. The CPU performance, RAM, operating system, WarpUP or AmigaOS 4.1 setup, AHI and graphics configuration all matter.
There are three different things readers may mean by “A1200”:
- Original Commodore Amiga 1200: the 1990s computer.
- Upgraded A1200: original hardware fitted with an accelerator, extra memory and other modern upgrades.
- THE A1200: Retro Games Ltd’s modern recreation with a full-size case and working keyboard.
Three editions of the Amiga release
The seller-listed euro prices below were supplied for the release and should be checked before ordering because stock, delivery and destination charges can change.

The Collector’s Edition is primarily a packaging and memorabilia upgrade. It does not make the game run on older hardware and should not be treated as a technical upgrade over the digital edition. The limited quantity was later reported as 250 copies after an earlier lower figure.

What is THE A1200?
THE A1200 is a separate product from Retro Games Ltd: a full-size modern recreation inspired by the Amiga 1200. Reported features include a working keyboard, classic-style mouse, retro gamepad, HDMI output, save support and USB loading for additional games. Reports also identify 25 built-in titles, including The Settlers II. Gamescom coverage linked the recreated computer with the new Amiga release.
THE A1200 is not an original Commodore computer. Nothing in the available information confirms that it reads original Amiga floppy disks or runs every Amiga application. USB loading also should not be interpreted as unrestricted compatibility with the entire Amiga software library.
A third-party product report listed a planned June 16, 2026 launch and regional prices of €189.99, £149.99, $189.99 and AU$299.99. Because that date has passed, buyers should check Retro Games Ltd’s official site or an authorized retailer for current shipping status, regional stock, warranty terms and the final software bundle. The reported game list does not by itself prove that the built-in version is technically identical to the separately sold Gold Edition.

Buy the digital edition if you already have compatible Amiga hardware
The €29.90 digital edition is the straightforward choice for owners of an Amiga-compatible system that meets the published requirements. It is not a solution for an unexpanded A1200, because buying the software does not supply the required processor, memory or operating-system environment.
Buy the Box Edition if physical media matters
The €49.90 Box Edition adds the DVD, manuals, atlas and postcards without the full Collector’s Edition premium. The physical packaging is the main reason to choose it, not improved compatibility.
Buy the Collector’s Edition for memorabilia
The €99.90 Collector’s Edition is aimed at dedicated Amiga and Settlers collectors who value the wooden box, limited run and metal magnet. It is poor value for someone who only wants the lowest-cost way to play.
Choose THE A1200 for a plug-and-play retro setup
THE A1200 is aimed at newcomers and retro enthusiasts who want HDMI, a working keyboard, controllers and a curated built-in library without maintaining aging hardware. It is less compelling for owners of an already upgraded A1200, a modern Amiga-compatible system or an emulator setup.
Choose upgraded original hardware for authenticity
An accelerated real A1200 offers the appeal of original hardware and peripherals, but it can require expensive upgrades, storage configuration and ongoing maintenance. Even upgraded systems must be checked against every published requirement rather than being judged only by whether they contain an accelerator.

If the goal is simply to play The Settlers II, a modern PC release or emulator may be easier and less expensive. The Amiga edition’s appeal is its licensed, enthusiast-focused release for Amiga-compatible systems—not necessarily the simplest route to the game.
What the announcement does—and does not—mean
- It does mean: the Amiga has received a long-delayed, officially Ubisoft-licensed version of The Settlers II Gold Edition.
- It does not mean: Commodore has returned or that a stock A1200 can run the game.
- It does mean: THE A1200 is associated with the release and has been reported to include The Settlers II among its built-in games.
- It does not yet establish: that the recreation runs every original Amiga program, reads floppy disks or includes exactly the same build as the standalone release.
For compatible Amiga owners, the digital edition is the practical choice. The Box and Collector’s editions are aimed at physical-media buyers and collectors. For everyone else, THE A1200 may offer the easiest modern hardware route, but its current regional availability and final bundle details should be confirmed before purchase.
