The value argument is real, but the headline needs a correction. In the U.S., the OnePlus 13 launched at $899 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra started at $1,299.99 for 256GB. That makes the normal unlocked MSRP gap about $400—not $500.
A $500 difference can happen through a dated sale, trade-in credit, coupon, or storage-tier mismatch. At comparable launch prices, however, the OnePlus 13 offers remarkably similar flagship performance, a larger battery, and dramatically faster charging. Samsung earns its premium through cameras, software longevity, the S Pen, DeX, ecosystem integration, and broader ownership infrastructure.
OnePlus 13 vs. Galaxy S25 Ultra: the short answer
Buy the OnePlus 13 if you want maximum hardware value, excellent battery life, very fast charging, and top-tier performance without paying Ultra pricing.
Buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra if you need the most versatile camera system, a built-in S Pen, Samsung DeX, longer software support, or deep integration with Galaxy devices.

The OnePlus 13 is not a cheaper phone pretending to be a flagship. It is a genuine high-end alternative. But the Galaxy S25 Ultra is not simply charging more for a logo: part of the price pays for capabilities and long-term support that OnePlus does not match.
First, the $500 price claim needs qualification

Based on those launch prices, the difference was approximately $400. The OnePlus 13’s 512GB model launched at $999, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra was also available with higher storage capacities at a higher price.
So when can the gap reach $500? Usually when the comparison combines a Samsung promotion with a OnePlus price, compares different storage tiers, includes a trade-in credit, or uses a particular retailer deal. Samsung’s advertised trade-in credits are promotional and depend on the phone being traded in, its condition, and the terms of the offer. They should not be treated as the standard cash price.

- Whether the price is MSRP, a sale price, or a trade-in-adjusted price.
- Whether taxes, activation fees, shipping, and required plans are included.
- Whether the seller is an authorized retailer.
- Whether a compatible fast charger is included in the specific bundle.

Performance: nearly the same class of hardware
Both phones use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite platform. The OnePlus 13 is therefore not a midrange phone with a premium design; it has the silicon needed for demanding games, intensive camera processing, emulation, and multitasking.
In ordinary apps, differences between the two are unlikely to be dramatic. Both should feel fast, with smooth scrolling and quick app launches. Gaming results can vary according to thermal tuning, game optimization, software version, ambient temperature, screen brightness, and whether the phone is using a performance mode.

Samsung offers stronger productivity tools, particularly when the phone is connected to an external display or used with a keyboard and mouse through DeX.
There is no responsible universal claim that one phone is always faster. A benchmark result is meaningful only when its test conditions are specified. For gaming and charging, OnePlus has the more obvious hardware advantages. For desktop-style productivity, Samsung is more capable.
Battery life and charging strongly favor OnePlus
The OnePlus 13 has a 6,000mAh battery, compared with 5,000mAh in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It also supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, while Samsung supports 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.
In Tom’s Guide’s battery test, the OnePlus 13 lasted 19 hours and 45 minutes, compared with 17 hours and 14 minutes for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. That is a substantial result, but it is still one lab methodology rather than a guarantee for every user. Network signal, brightness, gaming, camera use, standby behavior, and software settings all affect endurance.

Wireless charging also requires compatible hardware to reach the advertised rate.
Samsung’s 5,000mAh battery is not automatically inadequate. The S25 Ultra can still deliver strong endurance. It simply does not match the OnePlus 13’s combination of capacity and charging speed.
Camera comparison: Samsung is more versatile, but OnePlus is competitive
Megapixel counts do not decide this comparison. The important differences are the number of focal lengths, image processing, video performance, low-light behavior, and consistency across different scenes.

Galaxy S25 Ultra camera strengths

- Greater flexibility at 5x and longer ranges.
- A mature camera app, video system, portrait processing, and subject-tracking tools.
For daylight main-camera photos, both can produce excellent results. OnePlus may appeal to people who prefer its color rendering and natural-looking output, while Samsung often produces a more processed presentation. That is partly a matter of taste.
The S25 Ultra has the more complete system for travel, portraits, distant subjects, and situations where you want to switch between several optical perspectives. Its dedicated 5x telephoto is a meaningful advantage over relying mainly on digital cropping beyond the OnePlus 13’s 3x camera.
OnePlus can nevertheless be surprisingly good at 3x photography, and one review found it competitive with—and sometimes better than—the Samsung in particular telephoto comparisons. That does not make it the better camera phone overall. Results depend on lighting, subject movement, focus, processing, and the specific focal length.
Choose the Samsung if you regularly photograph children, pets, vehicles, concerts, distant subjects, or video. Choose the OnePlus if you want a strong everyday camera system and do not need the S25 Ultra’s extra optical reach.
Displays and design
Both phones have large, high-resolution LTPO displays with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. The OnePlus 13 has a 6.82-inch QHD+ panel, while the S25 Ultra has a slightly larger 6.9-inch display.

The more important design difference is shape. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has a flat display, titanium frame, Gorilla Armor 2 glass, and an anti-reflective treatment. The OnePlus 13 uses a rounded design language and Ceramic Guard cover glass, with the exact feel varying by finish.
Samsung is the better choice if you prefer a flat screen, use an S Pen, or frequently work outdoors where reflections matter. OnePlus delivers a similarly premium large-screen experience and manages to fit a larger battery while weighing slightly less, depending on the finish.
Neither phone should be described as waterproof. IP ratings are laboratory classifications, not a promise that every liquid exposure is harmless or that water damage will always be covered by warranty. Drops, scratches, salt water, pool chemicals, and charging while wet remain practical risks.

The OnePlus 13 launched with Android 15 and OxygenOS 15. OxygenOS is generally attractive to buyers who want a fast, relatively clean interface with fewer Samsung-specific services.

Samsung has advertised seven years of operating-system and security updates for the S25 series. OnePlus’s stated commitment for the OnePlus 13 is commonly described as four Android version upgrades and six years of security updates. Those are different promises: feature and Android-version upgrades are not the same as security patches.
That difference matters most if you plan to keep the phone for five to seven years. The OnePlus 13 may be the better bargain over a shorter ownership period, but Samsung’s longer support runway reduces the risk of owning an aging phone later in its life.
There is also a 2026 availability consideration. Reporting has described OnePlus withdrawing from the U.S. and Europe while saying existing devices would continue receiving scheduled updates within their original support periods. That does not mean an existing OnePlus 13 will stop working, but buyers should check authorized sales channels, warranty service, repair options, and accessory availability before purchasing.

S Pen, DeX, and ecosystem features
The Galaxy S25 Ultra includes an S Pen inside the phone. It is useful for handwritten notes, marking up documents, precise editing, remote-style controls, and navigating a large display with a fine pointer.
Samsung DeX is another major differentiator. It can provide a desktop-like interface on an external monitor and supports a broader productivity setup than the OnePlus 13 offers. Samsung also has mature connections to Galaxy Watches, Galaxy Buds, tablets, Windows PCs, SmartThings devices, enterprise-management systems, and carrier programs.
These features are valuable only if you will use them. If you do not own Galaxy accessories, do not need DeX, and have no interest in a stylus, Samsung’s ecosystem advantage should not be treated as an automatic reason to spend more.
Durability, carriers, and ownership
The S25 Ultra carries an IP68 rating, while OnePlus advertises IPX9 water resistance for the U.S. OnePlus 13. These ratings are not directly interchangeable, and buyers should read the exact test claims rather than translating either phone into a generic “waterproof” label.

Samsung generally has broader U.S. carrier distribution, financing, insurance, trade-in infrastructure, repair coverage, and replacement availability. The OnePlus 13 is commonly sold unlocked, with less carrier presence. Before buying, verify the exact model’s bands and certification for Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, along with 5G support, eSIM and physical-SIM behavior, and the retailer’s warranty terms.
An imported international model may have different bands, software, warranty coverage, or regional features. A marketplace listing is not automatically equivalent to an authorized U.S. purchase.
Who should buy the OnePlus 13?
- You want flagship-level performance without paying Ultra pricing.
- Battery endurance and fast charging matter more than almost anything else.
- You play demanding games or use the phone heavily throughout the day.
- You prefer a cleaner Android interface than Samsung’s feature-heavy One UI.
- You do not need an S Pen or DeX.
- You are comfortable buying unlocked and managing support directly through an authorized channel.
- You want a capable camera system but do not require Samsung’s full zoom and video toolkit.
Who should buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra?
- You need the most flexible camera system, especially at 5x and longer ranges.
- You will use the built-in S Pen.
- You need DeX or advanced multitasking.
- You plan to keep the phone for six or seven years.
- You already own Galaxy accessories or use Samsung tablets, watches, or SmartThings devices.
- You value carrier financing, trade-in programs, repair access, and resale infrastructure.
- A promotion or trade-in substantially reduces the price difference.
How to calculate the real value
At the original comparable prices, the OnePlus 13 cost about $400 less. Spread across four years, that is roughly $100 per year; across five years, about $80 per year. Those figures are only purchase-price comparisons and do not account for trade-in value, resale, accessories, repairs, or financing.
The Samsung premium becomes easier to justify when you use its S Pen, DeX, longer support commitment, camera versatility, or ecosystem every week. It becomes harder to justify when your priorities are battery life, charging speed, gaming performance, and a lower upfront cost.
Before buying in 2026, compare the actual checkout prices rather than relying on the headline: check official OnePlus or Samsung listings, storage capacity, trade-in terms, charger requirements, warranty coverage, and whether the model is intended for the U.S. market. Samsung’s trade-in program, OnePlus’s trade-in page, and OnePlus’s authorized-retailer information are useful starting points.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The OnePlus 13 was generally about $400 cheaper than the Galaxy S25 Ultra at comparable U.S. launch pricing, though a $500 gap can occur during a specific promotion. It is the smarter buy for battery life, charging, gaming, and hardware value. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is worth the premium for its cameras, S Pen, DeX, ecosystem, carrier support, and seven-year update commitment.
