Only one of the four advertised deals can be substantiated from the available evidence—and its $399 price was reported during Prime Day on June 24, 2026, not verified as available today, August 18. The promotion covered the 128GB Wi‑Fi iPad mini with an A17 Pro chip. The $8 MagSafe charger, 30%-off TurboTax offer and $188 ergonomic chair lack enough product and offer details to establish that they are real, current deals.

Deal headlines can linger after a promotion ends. For the iPad, the reported price is tied to a specific Prime Day event; it should not be read as a current offer without a live listing that confirms the configuration, condition, seller and checkout price.
iPad mini: a genuine $399 promotion, but from June
Macworld reported on June 24 that the 128GB Wi‑Fi iPad mini was $399, $100 below its $499 list price. AppleInsider also reported a $399.99 Prime Day price. Those reports establish that the deal was advertised then; they do not establish that it remains available on August 18. Apple’s purchase page lists the 128GB Wi‑Fi configuration at $499 in the retrieved listing.

At $399, a new 128GB Wi‑Fi model would be a meaningful $100 saving against the $499 list price. But confirm the actual listing before buying: deal coverage is not a guarantee of current stock, and retailer listings can differ by color, condition, seller, membership requirement or checkout coupon. A refurbished or marketplace-seller unit is not equivalent to a new unit sold by the retailer.
The small screen is the trade-off. If you regularly use split-screen apps, edit on a tablet, or want a larger canvas for documents, compare a larger iPad instead. Consider storage needs too: 128GB can fill quickly with downloaded video, large games or media projects. Cellular service costs extra, as do accessories. Apple’s purchase flow lists Apple Pencil Pro at $129, Apple Pencil USB‑C at $79 and Smart Folio at $59; adding them can substantially change the total.

Verdict: The June $399 price was attractive for someone specifically seeking a compact iPad, but it is not a verified August 18 deal. Compare current prices at the retailer before treating it as available.
$8 “MagSafe” charger: not enough information to recommend
“MagSafe charger” can mean an Apple MagSafe product, a Qi2 magnetic charger, a third-party magnetic Qi pad, or even a mount or cable that does not charge wirelessly. Without the brand and model, the $8 claim cannot be evaluated as a charger deal. The evidence does not establish a current product listing, certification, wattage, adapter inclusion or offer terms.

Before buying any unusually cheap magnetic charger, check whether it supports Apple MagSafe or Qi2 rather than merely claiming magnetic compatibility; confirm its maximum charging speed, cable length and whether a power adapter is included. Also check seller identity, warranty and returns. “MagSafe-compatible” is not the same claim as Apple-made or Apple-certified. For context, AppleInsider’s June Prime Day coverage identified a Belkin 3-in-1 MagSafe-compatible charger at $44.58 and an Apple MagSafe charging cable at $28—not an $8 Apple-certified charger.
Verdict: Do not rely on the $8 headline until the exact product and its checkout terms are identified.

30% off TurboTax: the edition and total cost matter
A percentage discount alone does not tell you what a tax-filing offer costs. The claim does not identify the TurboTax edition, tax year, seller, expiration date, customer eligibility or whether it covers software, expert assistance or a live-expert plan. It also does not say whether state filing is included or costs extra.
Before purchasing, check the final price for the return you need—not just the advertised percentage. Confirm federal and state charges, any upgrade for investment or self-employment income, and fees for optional services or paying with a refund. Seasonal tax-software prices and promotions can change, so a generic “30% off” claim is not evidence that a particular taxpayer will save 30% on the complete filing cost.

Verdict: The discount cannot be confirmed without a specific product page and offer terms. The claim should not be treated as applying across all TurboTax editions.
$188 ergonomic chair: price without a model is not a usable deal
No manufacturer or model is identified for the chair, so there is no way to check its dimensions, weight capacity, adjustments, warranty, returns, shipping or assembly requirements. “Ergonomic” is a marketing description, not proof that a chair will fit a particular person or support comfortable all-day use.
For a chair you are considering, look for seat dimensions and height range, weight rating, lumbar-support design, armrest and recline adjustments, warranty length, and the cost and conditions of return shipping. Fit matters: a narrow seat, unsuitable height or limited adjustment can make a low headline price a poor value. Check whether the displayed price depends on a coupon, a particular color, or a marketplace seller.

What to verify before acting on a deal headline
- Match the product: Confirm model, storage, connectivity and condition for electronics; confirm edition and tax year for software.
- Check the checkout total: Look for required membership, coupon, shipping, state-filing fees and add-ons.
- Check who sells it: Distinguish retailer-sold inventory from third-party marketplace listings, and read warranty and return terms.
- Confirm the timing: A dated report of a past promotion does not show that the offer is still live.
For the iPad mini, NBC Select previously listed the $399 price at Amazon, Best Buy and Target, but that earlier coverage likewise does not establish current availability. Use retailer pages to confirm a live offer rather than relying on a reused “today’s deals” headline.
