Google is the world’s most visited website, followed by YouTube, according to Similarweb’s July 2026 ranking, updated August 1. Facebook, Instagram and ChatGPT complete its top five. These are rankings of estimated website visits—not a count of unique people or a complete measure of app use.
The list below gives the July positions and keeps domains separate, as the ranking does. For visit totals, a separate section reports Semrush’s June 2026 estimates. The providers use different methods and reporting months, so their rankings and figures should not be combined as if they came from one dataset.
Quick answer
- Most visited website: Google (google.com), ranked first by Similarweb for July 2026.
- Second: YouTube (youtube.com).
- Top social-network domain: Facebook (facebook.com).
- Top AI website: ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), fifth in Similarweb’s July ranking.
- Important caveat: A visit is not a unique user, and website rankings do not capture all activity inside mobile apps.

Positions below are the July 2026 rankings reported in the cited comparison table. Similarweb’s public ranking page identifies July as its reporting period and was updated August 1, 2026. The table ranks domains; it does not provide monthly visit totals for all 20 entries.

June 2026: what the traffic estimates say
Semrush’s June figures put Google far ahead by estimated monthly web visits: 98.19 billion, against 52.22 billion for YouTube and 9.10 billion for Facebook. The gap between the first two and the rest is striking, but these are modeled traffic estimates, not audited server counts.

Semrush’s public June ranking confirms the headline figures for Google, YouTube and Facebook. The remaining figures, device shares and year-over-year changes in this table are from a Semrush-derived June dataset published by Resourcera. The available dataset lists these 16 entries; it does not establish ranks 17–20, so this table does not fill those positions from another provider or month. The two tables answer related but distinct questions. Similarweb supplies the latest position snapshot here; the June Semrush-derived table supplies estimated traffic totals and includes adult sites. Do not read the June rank as a July rank, or assume that the July list has the same inclusion rules as the June list.

What the leaders reveal about the web
Google and YouTube remain in a different traffic tier
Google’s lead reflects repeated search, navigation and brand lookups across the day, as well as its reach across countries and search verticals. It is a domain-visit lead, not evidence that Google accounts for a defined share of all internet activity.

YouTube combines search-like discovery with long-form and short-form video, music, podcasts, recommendations and creator content. Similarweb reports July average visit durations of 19 minutes 5 seconds for YouTube and 9 minutes 58 seconds for Google. The same page gives YouTube 11.81 pages per visit and Google 8.68. These engagement measures help describe browser sessions; they are not measures of total time spent across apps.
Social platforms occupy several top positions
Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and X all rank in Similarweb’s July top seven. TikTok and LinkedIn also appear in the top 20. This is a ranking by domain visits, not a verdict on which social platform has the most users or the most total app time.
Meta-associated properties appear as separate websites: Facebook and Instagram are listed independently, and WhatsApp has its own domain entry. Counting domains separately is not the same as ranking parent companies by combined audience.

ChatGPT is a top-five destination, but that is not the same as replacing search
ChatGPT is fifth in Similarweb’s July list. The June Semrush-derived estimate gives it 5.32 billion visits and 49.19% year-over-year growth. That is a notable increase among major sites in this dataset, not proof that it is the fastest-growing site anywhere online. Nor do visits establish that ChatGPT has overtaken Google in unique users, total platform usage, or app activity.

Its web audience also behaves differently from the top social and video sites. Semrush-derived June data puts 77.5% of ChatGPT visits on desktop and 22.5% on mobile. By comparison, Google’s split is 28.8% desktop and 71.2% mobile. These are estimated web visits by device, not a count of people or a complete accounting of app use.
Regional portals are still globally important
Yahoo Japan, Naver, Baidu and Yandex feature in the July list. They illustrate why a global ranking is not simply a list of US services: local-language search, news, email, shopping and other portal features can make regional services major destinations. A global position does not show how a site ranks in every country.
Search, shopping, reference and streaming all have a place
Bing, Baidu, Yandex and DuckDuckGo show that search is not represented by Google alone. Wikipedia remains a major reference destination; Amazon represents e-commerce; and Netflix appears among the July top 20. The unfiltered June Semrush-derived traffic list also includes Pornhub and XVideos. Adult sites are part of an all-category traffic ranking unless its publisher explicitly excludes them.
What “visits” means—and what it does not
A visit usually means a browsing session, not a distinct person. The same person can generate multiple visits to a site, including several in one day. Thus, 98.19 billion estimated Google visits in June does not mean 98.19 billion people visited Google.

Website rankings measure traffic to domains, typically through browser use and estimation. They do not necessarily include, or fully capture, activity in native mobile apps. This matters especially for services such as WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, where people may spend substantial time in an app without visiting the website.
Semrush’s June device estimates illustrate the limitation: WhatsApp’s web traffic is reported as 86% desktop and 14% mobile, while TikTok is reported as 39% desktop and 61% mobile. The WhatsApp split should not be mistaken for the devices people use for WhatsApp overall; app use is outside what a website-only device split describes.

Similarweb and Semrush can produce different positions and traffic estimates because they use different measurement panels and modeling methods. Results can also vary with the reporting month, sampling error, device and app coverage, treatment of regional domains, redirects and subdomains, and the categories or sites included. A one- or two-place movement between snapshots may not represent a meaningful change in audience.
There is no single official real-time leaderboard of global website traffic. Use the provider and month attached to a ranking, and compare like with like. Similarweb’s July position list and Semrush’s June visit estimates are useful snapshots, not interchangeable measurements.

Domains are not companies
This is a domain ranking, not a ranking of parent companies. Google and YouTube are separate domains associated with Alphabet; Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are separate services associated with Meta. LinkedIn and Bing are separate Microsoft properties. Yahoo.com and Yahoo.co.jp are distinct domains and should not be merged unless the measuring provider explicitly consolidates them. Similarly, traffic to amazon.com does not represent every Amazon country domain.
Subdomains can also appear independently: Gemini is listed as gemini.google.com, separately from google.com. That affects how traffic is allocated and why a domain list should not be read as a consolidated company-audience ranking.
How to use the list
- For the latest position in this article, use the July 2026 Similarweb order.
- For monthly visit totals and year-over-year changes, use the separate June Semrush-derived data, with its stated coverage limits.
- For unique people, app audiences or country-specific leadership, look for a measurement designed to answer that question; these domain-visit rankings do not answer it.
- When comparing a site over time, keep the provider, domain definition, reporting period and inclusion rules consistent.
