The headline needs an update: the M4 MacBook Pro is no longer Apple’s latest generation in 2026. More importantly, a specific August 18, 2026 sale price and stock status could not be verified from the available evidence, so it would be misleading to call a current listing an all-time low.
For the base 14-inch model with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD, iClarified records a lowest tracked price of $1,249, last seen on December 13, 2025. That is the benchmark to use when judging any current M4 promotion. If the listing is close to a discounted M5, the newer MacBook Pro is likely the better buy.
Which M4 MacBook Pro does the deal refer to?
“MacBook Pro with M4” is not a complete product description. Apple sold 14-inch and 16-inch models with the base M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips, along with different memory and storage configurations.

The price-history record most relevant to this deal is the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M4 chip, 16GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD. Its launch price was $1,599, and iClarified lists a lowest tracked price of $1,249 on December 13, 2025 (price-history record). That record identifies the silver configuration; availability of Space Black, other capacities, and other sellers must be checked on the live listing.

A 14-inch M4 with 16GB memory and a 1TB SSD launched at $1,799 and has a separate tracked low of $1,449, also recorded on December 13, 2025 (1TB price history). It should not be confused with the 512GB model.
Is the M4 MacBook Pro currently at its lowest price?
There is not enough evidence to verify a new all-time low for a particular M4 MacBook Pro on August 18, 2026. A credible deal report needs the exact retailer listing, seller, condition, color, configuration, and any coupon or membership requirement.
The phrase “lowest price to date” can mean several different things:

- the lowest price including refurbished, renewed, or open-box stock;
- the lowest price for one specific color or configuration; or
- the lowest price after a temporary coupon or membership discount.
Those are not interchangeable. For comparison, a December 2024 deal report called $1,399 the lowest price at the time for the base 14-inch M4, down from its $1,599 launch price (Tom’s Guide). Later price tracking recorded $1,249, showing why every record-low claim needs a date and a defined configuration.
What to check before buying

Why the M4 MacBook Pro remains attractive
The 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro is still a powerful laptop for buyers who need more than a basic notebook. Its advantages include:
- a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display;
- active cooling for better sustained performance than a fanless MacBook Air;
- an HDMI port, SDXC card slot, headphone jack, and Thunderbolt/USB-C connectivity;
- a 12MP Center Stage camera;
- support for Apple Intelligence on Apple silicon Macs, subject to supported language, region, and software requirements; and
- strong performance for video editing, software development, photography, and other demanding workflows.
It is particularly sensible for buyers moving from an Intel Mac or older Apple silicon model, developers using containers, simulators, or virtual machines, and creators who value the display, ports, and sustained performance.

Why the M4 is no longer the obvious choice
Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro models are now treated as the current generation in 2026 coverage (9to5Mac). A May 2026 deal report listed a 14-inch M5 with 16GB memory and 1TB storage at approximately $1,500, compared with a $1,699 current Apple list price.
That comparison changes the calculation. A $1,249 M4 with 512GB storage is meaningfully cheaper than that example, but an M4 priced only slightly below a discounted M5 may offer poor value. The M5 also provides the newer platform, potentially better resale longevity, and—depending on the specific deal—more storage for the money.
Apple’s refurbished store continues to list M4 MacBook Pro configurations, although inventory changes frequently (Apple Certified Refurbished Mac). Apple refurbished stock can be attractive when the price is competitive and the included warranty is clear, but a specific color or configuration may sell out.

M4 versus M5: the practical decision

Always compare like for like: 14-inch with 14-inch, the same memory and storage, the same condition, similar warranty coverage, and the same seller type. A discounted M4 Pro is not a direct comparison with a base M5.

- Video editors and photographers: The display, cooling, ports, and sustained performance are useful for creative workflows.
- Developers: The Pro chassis is a better fit for long builds, containers, simulators, and virtual machines than a basic ultraportable.
- Intel and older-Mac owners: The performance and efficiency jump can be substantial.
- Port-focused users: HDMI and SDXC are built in, reducing the need for adapters.
- Value shoppers: The M4 makes sense when it is substantially below a comparable M5.
Who should skip it?
Choose a MacBook Air instead if your work is mostly browsing, office applications, schoolwork, streaming, and ordinary photo editing. The Air is generally the better fit when thinness, low weight, and a quieter design matter more than the Pro display, ports, and sustained cooling.
Skip an M4 promotion if it is a renewed or open-box unit with unclear warranty coverage, if the seller is unfamiliar, or if the price requires a discount that is not guaranteed at checkout. Also be cautious when a 16GB M4 costs about the same as an M5 with more memory or storage.
Bottom line
The base 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro is a good deal at or near its documented $1,249 tracked low, particularly when it is new or Apple Certified Refurbished with clear coverage. It is not accurate to describe the M4 as Apple’s latest MacBook Pro in 2026, and no current August 18 listing should be called an all-time low without live retailer and price-history verification.
If the M4 is only modestly cheaper than a comparable discounted M5, buy the M5 instead. If the M4 is substantially cheaper and you need the Pro display, ports, and sustained performance, the older generation remains a sensible purchase.
