Yes, the Chromebook game promotion was real—but it was announced on June 4, 2020, and it was three free games, not six. There is no evidence in Google’s current offer information that the original bundle is still redeemable in 2026. Check the Perks page on your Chromebook for offers that are available to your device and account now.
What the 2020 Chromebook promotion included
The June 2020 article listed three full games as free: DOOM, DOOM II and Stardew Valley. It gave the three games a combined promotional value of $14.99 at the time; that is a historical figure, not a current price or guaranteed saving. The original article also listed separate expansions and in-game items.

- Fishdom: a Pirate’s Treasure item pack; the article stated a $54.99 value.
- Fallout Shelter: an in-app item pack that included 40 lunchboxes; the article stated a $19.99 value.
The article put the bonuses’ combined promotional value at $95. Those figures describe the 2020 promotion, not verified current prices or savings. An expansion or item pack is also not the same thing as a full paid game.

The original headline said “six free games,” but the article was corrected to clarify that only three titles were free games. Other featured titles were free-to-play games with promotional items or, in the case of The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a story expansion. Calling all of them free premium games blurred the difference between a game license and an add-on.

Can you still redeem the original bundle?
It is not verified as available now. The promotion dates to June 2020, while Google’s current Chromebook Plus page shows different, time-limited perks, including 12 months of Google AI Pro and 25% off LumaFusion, with terms applying. Google’s page is not evidence that the 2020 games remain claimable. Check the live Perks page and the specific offer terms before relying on any perk.
Google says Chromebook perks depend on offer terms and eligibility; limits can apply by device or Google Account. Eligibility may also depend on location and prior redemption. Do not buy a Chromebook solely to claim this historical game bundle.

How to check and redeem a current Chromebook perk
Google’s support instructions require ChromeOS version 86 or newer. The Chromebook must be signed in; Guest and Incognito modes cannot be used to redeem perks. Google’s Chromebook perks help page explains the general process:
- Sign in to the Chromebook with the Google Account you intend to use.
- Open the Chromebook Perks page.
- Find an offer marked as available and select Get perk.
- Read the offer terms, including its deadline, location restrictions, eligibility rules and any subscription or payment conditions.
- Accept the terms and complete the partner’s redemption flow.
A perk that appears on one device may not be available to another account or Chromebook. Check whether payment details are required and whether a trial or discount converts to a paid subscription; partner cancellation rules may apply.

If a perk is missing or redemption fails
Google lists several possible causes and troubleshooting steps. Check the relevant one rather than assuming the offer is still active:
- Already redeemed: An offer may be limited to one redemption per Chromebook or Google Account, according to its terms. Google says a redeemed offer cannot be transferred to another account.
- Device eligibility: Refurbished or manufacturer-repaired devices, and Chromebooks managed by a school or employer, may not qualify for a particular offer.
- Mode or account: Sign in normally; Guest and Incognito modes are not supported for redemption.
- Offer limits: The offer may be expired or unavailable in your country or territory. Confirm its dates and regional terms.
- Technical issue: If Google’s redemption server is unavailable, try again later. If the page still fails, disable Chrome extensions and disconnect any external monitor while troubleshooting.
These checks apply to Chromebook perks generally; they do not establish that the 2020 game bundle is still offered.

What Chromebook gaming looks like now
Google positions Chromebook Plus for browser-based and cloud gaming, listing GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming beta, Amazon Luna and Boosteroid as options when you have a reliable internet connection. Availability and requirements vary by service. Streaming may require a separate account, subscription, game purchase or compatible game library, and performance depends on network quality.

GeForce NOW’s Chromebook-specific Fast Pass was announced separately in November 2025—not as part of the 2020 game promotion. Google described it as a one-year offer with no ads, queue skipping, 10 hours of gaming per month and up to five unused hours rolling over. Check Google’s announcement and the provider’s current terms for availability and conditions.
