Temu may require a minimum order value before it lets you check out, but there is no single amount that applies to every shopper. The threshold can vary by country, order history, promotion and fulfillment source. Many U.S. shoppers report a $20 minimum for some Temu-shipped orders, but that is not a permanent, universal rule. The amount shown in your own cart is the one to use.
Coupons can complicate the calculation: Temu says the amount left after a coupon may still need to meet the order minimum. A coupon threshold, free-shipping offer and minimum order value are separate conditions.

Temu’s minimum-order rules can change by country, account, fulfillment source, promotion and date. This guide reflects publicly available Temu policy and customer reports reviewed August 18, 2026. Check your own cart for the current applicable amount.
What is Temu’s minimum order right now?
Temu may require a minimum purchase amount before an order can be submitted. Its terms of use say that the minimum can vary, including between a customer’s first and later orders, and that applicable conditions should be disclosed on the product listing before purchase.

For U.S. shoppers, $20 is often reported for some Temu-shipped orders, but reports also describe other thresholds, including $15, $30 and $35. Those are individual experiences, not a reliable official U.S.-wide price list. Temu’s public support material identifies “Minimum Order Value” as a support topic but does not establish one universal U.S. dollar figure. Treat the amount displayed for your own order as controlling.
The minimum is the merchandise value Temu requires to accept an order under the conditions shown. It is not necessarily the price of one item, the amount charged to your card, a coupon’s qualifying spend, or a free-shipping threshold. Taxes, shipping and other checkout charges can affect the final amount you pay without being the merchandise value used for the minimum.
How to find the minimum that applies to your cart
- Add the product or products you actually want and open your cart.
- Continue toward checkout. If the order is below a required amount, Temu may show a notice or disable the checkout action until you add eligible products. The precise wording and placement can differ across the website, iOS and Android apps, regions and app versions.
- Look for language such as “minimum order value” or “minimum purchase.” Make sure you are not looking at a coupon’s spending requirement instead.
- Apply the coupon or credit you intend to use, then check the qualifying subtotal and checkout eligibility again.
- Review item sources, shipping, tax and the final total before placing the order.
If the threshold changes between the listing, cart and checkout, pause before adding anything. Check whether a discount changed the qualifying subtotal, whether the cart has been split into fulfillment groups, or whether a promotion has separate terms. Save screenshots of the differing amounts and contact Temu support through the app or website if the displayed requirement remains contradictory.

Do coupons count toward Temu’s minimum?
Do not assume that a coupon’s threshold is the same as the order minimum. Temu’s coupon guidance distinguishes a coupon condition—such as “spend $10 to save $1”—from the minimum needed to place an order. It says the post-discount amount may still have to meet the order minimum.
For example, if the minimum is $20 and eligible merchandise totals $20, a $5 coupon could leave a $15 qualifying amount. The order may then fail the minimum-order check. To illustrate the distinction, Temu’s support page describes a $30 minimum and a $1 discount: the shopper needs at least $31 in merchandise so $30 remains after the coupon.
Coupons, credits, seller discounts and promotional offers may not all be treated identically. Check the cart after each discount is applied rather than relying on the pre-discount item total. A “no minimum spend” coupon promotion may describe the coupon itself; it does not necessarily waive the order-placement minimum for the items.

Minimum order vs. coupon threshold vs. free shipping

Meeting one condition does not guarantee that you meet the others. A cart may satisfy the minimum order value but still show shipping charges. A free-shipping offer may not remove a separate order requirement. Temu lists minimum-order help separately from other support topics, and its shipping help is also separate; check both the order terms and shipping details shown for your own purchase.

Possibly. Temu customer-service responses published by the Better Business Bureau say that some local products may not have a minimum order requirement. That does not establish an exemption for every local listing, seller or region. Confirm the product’s terms and shipping cost on its listing and again at checkout.
Do not assume a local item will count toward a minimum shown for Temu-shipped products. Customer reports describe local and Temu-shipped items being treated differently, but the exact grouping can vary and is not established as a universal platform rule. Carts can involve products from different sources or sellers, and an order may be split into packages or groups with different conditions. If the threshold is unclear, test the cart with only the items you plan to buy and read the checkout notice before adding filler items.

Why does my minimum differ from someone else’s?
Temu’s terms explicitly allow variation, including for first versus subsequent orders. Other factors that may help explain different cart totals include delivery country or region, promotions and coupon eligibility, fulfillment source, seller grouping, logistics conditions, and temporary account or promotion tests. Customer-service responses published by the BBB cite market trends, logistics capacity, promotions, discounts and packaging efficiency as reasons amounts may vary. These are Temu’s explanations as reproduced in complaint records, not an independently audited account of how every threshold is set.
Customer reports also describe thresholds changing after adding items or reaching checkout. That may reflect a discount changing the qualifying subtotal, products being grouped differently, a promotion’s separate terms or a mismatch between a coupon threshold and an order minimum. Reports of changing amounts do not prove that every customer will see the same behavior. An old screenshot or another shopper’s cart is not a dependable guide to your current order.

Why does Temu impose a minimum?
Temu has described small orders as costly to ship and said that combining products can improve packaging efficiency and support its low item prices. It has also referred to consolidation as a way to reduce packaging or delivery trips. These are the company’s stated reasons, not proof that every larger order costs less to deliver or has a lower environmental impact in practice.

What to do if Temu will not let you check out
- Read the exact notice. Identify whether it says minimum order, coupon spending requirement or another condition.
- Check the post-discount subtotal. Remove or change a coupon temporarily if needed to understand whether the discount is taking the qualifying amount below the minimum.
- Inspect item sources. Look for local listings, different sellers or fulfillment sources that may be treated separately.
- Review the cart as an intended order. Try the products you actually want together, rather than assuming every item in a mixed cart counts toward one threshold.
- Recheck shipping and the full total. A lower merchandise subtotal, shipping fee, tax and the minimum are different parts of the purchase.
- Document inconsistent amounts. If the threshold changes unexpectedly, capture the listing, cart and checkout screens and ask Temu support to clarify which requirement applies.
Temu may block payment or prompt you to add products when the order is below the applicable minimum. The exact button or message can vary. Do not submit an order until the final amount and terms are clear.
Is it worth adding items to reach the minimum?
Compare the cost of making the order eligible with the cost of not placing it. Consider the additional amount required, any shipping charge, tax, whether your coupon remains valid, and whether the added products are things you genuinely need. Also consider whether different fulfillment groups could mean separate packages or more complicated returns.
- Add useful items if they were already on your list and the full checkout cost is reasonable.
- Check a local listing or another offer if one exists, but compare its item price and shipping cost; it may not count toward another group’s minimum.
- Wait if the item can be included in a later order you already expect to make.
- Buy elsewhere if you need only one low-cost item. Compare the complete price, delivery time and return conditions at a retailer that serves your area. Amazon, Walmart, AliExpress or a local specialist may suit different needs; availability and terms vary.
- Abandon the cart if meeting the minimum requires spending more on unwanted items than the convenience or savings are worth.
Paying shipping instead of meeting the minimum may be possible for some local products or special listings, but it is not a general workaround. Check whether the item is marked local and compare the stated shipping charge with the cost of adding something useful. A forced add-on is not a saving just because the individual item is inexpensive.

Can customer service remove the minimum?
The available policy material does not establish that support can waive a minimum on request. Contact support if the amount appears inconsistent with the listing or changes unexpectedly, but do not rely on receiving an exception. Ask for clarification before submitting the order.
