Status: expired. TELUS offered its 5G+ Essential Unlimited Canada-US-Mexico plan for a promotional $60 per month during Black Friday 2024. The offer included 200GB of high-speed data, required a bring-your-own-device activation, and ended on December 2, 2024. The checkout code 3DAYSALE200 should not be expected to work now.

200GB did not mean 200GB at full speed forever
The plan’s headline allowance was 200GB of high-speed data. Once that allowance was used, data continued to be available but at reduced speeds. The available report does not specify the exact post-200GB speed, so it cannot be used to predict whether activities such as HD streaming, tethering or large downloads would remain practical.
The advertised up-to-2Gbps figure was also a maximum, not a guaranteed real-world speed. Performance would depend on coverage, the customer’s device, local congestion, spectrum, location and whether the phone was connected to TELUS 5G or 5G+.

MobileSyrup described the plan as including unlimited data, talk and text across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. That made it potentially valuable for frequent cross-border travellers, but “Canada-US-Mexico” should not automatically be read as unrestricted use in every circumstance.

The available reporting does not confirm the plan’s detailed hotspot rules, fair-use policy, roaming-partner conditions or whether usage was treated identically in all three countries. Those terms would have needed to be checked in TELUS’s original plan documentation.
Who qualified?
The reported deal was tied to activating a new line while bringing your own device during the promotional window. A compatible unlocked phone would therefore have been important, particularly for access to TELUS 5G+ and compatible roaming networks.

The available source does not establish whether existing TELUS customers could convert an existing line, whether additional lines qualified, how many lines could share the allowance, or what other account-level restrictions applied. “Shareable” generally suggests that data can be pooled across eligible lines, but the report did not publish the maximum number of lines, pooling mechanics or extra-line fees.
Was the $60 price permanent?
No permanent price guarantee was established. The report described $60 as the Black Friday promotional price and identified $65 as the plan’s usual price at the time. It did not confirm whether the discount was guaranteed for a fixed term, dependent on autopay or bundling, or subject to later price changes.

Taxes, activation or connection fees, SIM costs and other charges were also not established by the reported headline. The safest description is that TELUS reduced the reported monthly plan price to $60 during the promotion—not that it created a permanent $60 rate.
Why the deal was attractive
- 200GB was a large high-speed allowance for an individual or shared account.
- Canada, U.S. and Mexico use could reduce the need for separate roaming plans for regular travellers.
- Data service continued after the high-speed allowance instead of stopping completely.
- The promotional price was $5 below the reported regular $65 monthly price.
- BYOD customers could use a phone they already owned rather than finance a new handset.
Who would have benefited most?
The offer would have made the most sense for heavy-data users, families or groups able to share the allowance, frequent travellers to the U.S. or Mexico, and customers who already owned a compatible 5G device. It could also have appealed to people who preferred Canadian-carrier billing and support over buying separate travel eSIMs.

Light-data users, customers who needed a subsidized phone, people who rarely left Canada and anyone without compatible TELUS 5G bands may have been better served by a cheaper domestic plan. Users dependent on hotspot performance would also have needed to verify the tethering terms before signing up.
What can replace it now?
The TELUS promotion is historical, so readers should compare current offers rather than visit the old deal page or try the expired code. Current prices and eligibility can change, but the surfaced alternatives illustrate the trade-offs:

- Bell’s BYOD page displayed a 100GB plan with U.S. roaming for $55 per month in the reported configuration. It offered less high-speed data and did not match the reported TELUS Canada-U.S.-Mexico package.
- Bell’s Ultra unlimited option with U.S./Mexico roaming was displayed at $85 per month in one BYOD configuration. A separate Bell bundle page displayed $70 per month after a listed bundle credit, so those figures should not be treated as interchangeable standalone prices. - Rogers’s specialized plans page displayed a 5G+ Essentials 65+ plan at $60 per month after autopay, with 100GB of high-speed data and U.S./Mexico benefits for 12 months. The offer was restricted to customers aged 65 and older and therefore was not a general replacement.
Any current TELUS replacement should be checked on TELUS’s live website for today’s price, eligibility, taxes, device requirements, roaming duration and price-change terms. The old MobileSyrup article is no longer available at its original URL, which is another reason not to treat the 2024 promotion as active.
