The TECNO SPARK 20 Pro+ is a 2024 budget phone that looks more premium than its class: it pairs a slim, curved body with a 6.78-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 108MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Its Helio G99 Ultimate is suited to everyday apps and moderate gaming, not demanding games or flagship performance. The biggest question in 2026 is value: it is worth considering at a substantial local discount, but its 4G-only connection and uncertain long-term software support make newer 5G rivals more appealing at similar prices.
Verdict
The SPARK 20 Pro+ makes its strongest case with the screen and styling. Its curved AMOLED panel, stereo speakers and thin profile give it a more distinctive feel than many budget phones, while the 108MP rear camera and 32MP selfie camera offer useful hardware for daylight photos and video calls. The 5,000mAh battery and 33W wired charging round out a practical everyday package.
But this is not a performance-first phone. It supports 4G, not 5G; its Helio G99 Ultimate is a midrange 4G chipset; and the camera setup lacks the flexibility of a phone with a proper ultrawide or telephoto lens. TECNO’s official product and specification pages describe Android 14, but the update commitment for a buyer’s market should be confirmed rather than assumed. In 2026, buy it only if its price is clearly below newer 5G alternatives and the seller offers local warranty coverage.
- Consider it for: a curved 120Hz AMOLED display, distinctive design, everyday use, stereo audio and a large battery at a discounted price.
- Look elsewhere for: 5G, demanding gaming, an ultrawide camera, a compact or flat-screen phone, water immersion protection, or a clearly documented long update policy.
Price, availability and variants
TECNO announced the SPARK 20 Pro+ on January 2, 2024, with availability in selected international markets and prices varying by region. There is no dependable single global price to quote for 2026. Check the price in your country, the storage configuration, tax and warranty terms, and whether the seller is authorized. TECNO’s official product page provides a route to its regional store and support resources.

Regional versions may differ in colors, NFC, LTE bands, accessories and software. Before ordering, match the exact model and network bands to your carrier. This is particularly important for imported units: a compatible data band alone does not guarantee VoLTE, emergency calling or warranty support. U.S. buyers should not assume the phone will work reliably on a particular carrier without confirmation from both the carrier and seller.
TECNO lists colors including Lunar Frost, Temporal Orbits, Radiant Starstream and Magic Skin 2.0 Green, but availability is market-dependent. The usual advertised configuration is 8GB of physical RAM and up to 256GB of storage; confirm the listing for the precise variant.
Design and durability
The Pro+ is the premium-styled member of the original SPARK 20 family. TECNO specifies a 7.55mm-thick body weighing about 190g, with a double-curved design and a circular rear-camera treatment it calls “Quadrant Star Array.” Those are manufacturer specifications and branding, not independent evidence of superior durability. The thin, curved form is visually striking, but it is less practical for some buyers than a flat-sided phone: the display edges are exposed to impacts, and finding a well-fitting protector can be harder.

That can help with scratch and impact resistance, but it does not make the display crack-proof. A case and screen protector are sensible precautions, especially because a curved screen can be expensive to replace. TECNO lists IP53 protection, which is limited dust protection and resistance to light splashes. It is not waterproof, is not rated for immersion, and should not be relied on in heavy rain or around a pool.
Display: the main reason to consider it
The 6.78-inch AMOLED panel has a 1080 × 2436 resolution and supports refresh rates up to 120Hz. AMOLED pixels can switch off for deep blacks, giving the screen strong contrast for films, photos and dark interface themes. The high refresh rate makes scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on a standard 60Hz display. It may adjust downward depending on content or settings, so “120Hz” should not be read as a guarantee that every app runs at that rate continuously.
TECNO claims peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits, a P3 color gamut, 1,500Hz instant touch sampling and 2,160Hz PWM dimming. Peak brightness is not the same as sustained brightness across the entire display, and these specifications are not a substitute for a measured outdoor test. One review praised the contrast and smoothness but found direct sunlight challenging; treat that as an individual observation, not a controlled brightness measurement. The curved edges can also catch reflections and may be more prone to accidental touches.
The official feature list does not by itself establish HDR streaming certification or support from every streaming service. If HDR playback or a particular service’s highest video quality matters, check the app’s device certification and the exact regional software build. Likewise, people sensitive to low-brightness flicker may want to try the screen in person: TECNO advertises PWM dimming, but individual comfort varies.
Performance: smooth for daily use, not a gaming specialist
The phone uses MediaTek’s Helio G99 Ultimate, a 4G chipset, with 8GB of physical RAM in the commonly advertised configuration. TECNO also advertises up to 8GB of extended RAM, which uses storage to supplement memory. It is not equivalent to adding 8GB of physical RAM and should not be counted as a true 16GB memory configuration.
For messaging, browsing, social apps, video streaming and ordinary multitasking, this hardware should be capable. The 256GB option gives many users room for apps and media, though confirm whether the particular regional model supports expandable storage if that matters to you. The G99 Ultimate is not a high-end gaming processor: demanding games may need lower graphics settings, and buyers should not expect flagship frame rates or long-term headroom for increasingly heavy games.

TECNO says its Aurora Engine improves app and game launch rates and its Darwin Engine assists frame rates and thermals. These are vendor claims; the available evidence does not establish independent benchmark scores, sustained gaming performance or temperatures. No reliable controlled results are available here for extended gaming, heat, or app retention, so those should not be presented as tested advantages. If gaming is a priority, look for independent tests of the exact variant and compare newer chipsets at the same local price.
The absence of 5G is more than a spec-sheet footnote in 2026. The SPARK 20 Pro+ may remain perfectly usable where 4G coverage is strong, but it cannot access a 5G network, and a newer 5G phone may have a longer useful connectivity runway. Choose it only if the discount and other features matter more than that trade-off.
Cameras: high resolution, limited range
The rear system centers on a 108MP main camera. Some TECNO regional specifications also list a 2MP macro camera. The front camera is 32MP and has dual flash; TECNO also lists dual rear flash. A high megapixel count does not guarantee better photos: sensor size, focus, exposure, image processing and stability matter as much as resolution.
TECNO advertises 3x in-sensor zoom and 10x digital zoom. In-sensor cropping is not optical telephoto zoom, and digital zoom cannot recover detail that the sensor did not capture. The camera is therefore best understood as a main-camera system rather than a versatile multi-lens setup. No ultrawide camera is listed in the cited regional specifications; verify the exact variant, but do not buy on the assumption that you can capture wide landscapes or large groups with a dedicated ultrawide lens.
One independent review found the main camera acceptable in low light but weaker in near-dark scenes, praised selfies in good lighting and noted aggressive default beauty processing. Those are useful cautions, not controlled comparisons. In practical terms, expect the best results in good daylight; check faces for over-smoothing, bright skies for highlight loss and moving subjects for blur when light drops. TECNO’s HDR multi-frame processing and 2K video claims do not establish how consistently the phone handles backlit scenes, stabilization or autofocus.
The 108MP mode may not be the best default for every shot. Pixel-binning and processing can produce more balanced files at a lower output resolution, while full-resolution images can use more storage and may show noise or processing artifacts. Compare both modes on the exact phone if fine detail matters. The macro sensor, where present, is a modest extra rather than a replacement for an ultrawide lens.
The selfie camera’s 32MP resolution is promising for well-lit calls and portraits, but indoor quality depends on light and processing. Turn down or disable beauty effects if skin texture looks overly smoothed. For video, check stabilization and focus behavior with moving subjects; the advertised resolution alone does not guarantee steady footage.
Battery and charging
TECNO specifies a 5,000mAh battery and up to 33W wired charging over USB-C. That capacity is a sound starting point for an everyday phone, but actual endurance depends on screen brightness, refresh rate, mobile signal, gaming and background apps. There are no controlled screen-on-time, streaming, 4G-drain or charging-time results available to support a precise hours-per-charge claim. TECNO’s launch material says an hour of charging can provide nearly a day of use; that is a manufacturer claim, not a universal result.
Check whether the 33W charger is included in your local box and whether it is the correct regional plug. Charging speed typically varies with temperature and battery level, so a maximum wattage is not a promise of a constant rate from empty to full. If battery longevity matters, avoid leaving the phone in hot conditions while charging and use a compatible charger.

Software: verify the version and the support promise
The official TECNO product information identifies Android 14 with HiOS. HiOS adds customization and features, including TECNO’s Dynamic Port interface around the front-camera cutout, but the experience may be busier than near-stock Android. Check the actual unit for preinstalled apps, duplicate utilities, recommendation notifications and battery-management settings. Some phones allow apps to be removed or notifications disabled; menus and options can differ by software version and region.

There is a discrepancy in the available coverage: a third-party review describes a device running HiOS 13 based on Android 13, while TECNO’s official launch and product pages identify Android 14. That difference could reflect a mistaken model, an early or regional build, or an error in the review. Before buying a used or imported unit, open Settings → About phone and check its model number, Android version, HiOS version and security-patch date.
Do not infer a long update commitment from the Android version it shipped with or from general claims about regular updates. The cited materials do not establish a clear Android-version or security-support duration for every market. Ask TECNO or the local seller for the applicable policy, and weigh that uncertainty heavily if you plan to keep the phone for several years. Also test notification delivery for essential messaging apps and review app permissions and background restrictions after setup.
Audio and connectivity
TECNO lists stereo speakers with DTS branding, Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/GNSS, FM radio and a USB-C port. These features suit video and casual listening, although branding alone does not establish speaker loudness or sound quality. NFC is listed on at least some regional variants, not necessarily all of them.
Before purchase, confirm LTE bands, NFC, dual-SIM behavior, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, headphone-jack availability and storage expansion for the exact model sold in your country. Official regional specification pages are useful starting points, but do not cover every market identically. TECNO’s regional technical specifications list the advertised configuration; the launch announcement also notes that availability and pricing vary by region.
Who should buy the SPARK 20 Pro+?
It makes sense for someone who wants a large, curved AMOLED screen, standout design, decent everyday speed, stereo audio and a large battery—and can get the phone substantially below the price of newer 5G alternatives. It may also suit a buyer who values a high-resolution selfie camera and takes most photos in daylight.
Choose another phone if you want 5G, reliable high-end gaming, an ultrawide camera, strong near-dark photography, a compact body, wireless charging, immersion-rated water resistance or a documented long software-support policy. A flat-screen alternative may be easier and cheaper to protect. At a similar price, compare current local options for chipset generation, 5G, camera versatility, update commitments and warranty rather than relying on old launch-era comparisons.
For a market-specific alternative check, the available review mentions the Infinix Hot 40 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A15 and Xiaomi Redmi 13C, but those comparisons and prices are date- and region-dependent. Recheck current models and pricing before treating them as direct rivals.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact model number, RAM/storage configuration and Android/HiOS versions.
- Check local 4G band support, VoLTE and carrier compatibility; do not assume 5G.
- Verify NFC, SIM configuration, headphone jack, storage expansion and included charger for your variant.
- Ask for the local software-update policy and check the security-patch date.
- Confirm seller legitimacy, return terms and local warranty/service coverage; TECNO lists support routes through its regional site and Carlcare.
- Budget for a case and screen protector, particularly because the display curves at the edges.
- Compare the final price against newer 5G phones with stronger update commitments before deciding.
