It was a physical concept device displayed at TECNO’s booth—not a retail launch or a phone announced for sale.
What TECNO showed at MWC 2025
The device was the PHANTOM ULTIMATE 2, a three-panel phone concept TECNO had first introduced in August 2024. MWC coverage placed it at TECNO’s Hall 6, Booth 6B11, reportedly behind glass. That confirms a public display, but does not support claims of extensive hands-on testing or production readiness. Android Headlines’ MWC report identifies the device and booth location.
TECNO’s wider showcase included the CAMON 40 series, AI glasses, laptops, earbuds and smartwatch products. The tri-fold was an experimental part of that lineup, not the only focus of the company’s event presence.
How the tri-fold design is meant to work
Two hinges connect three display sections in a Z-shaped folding arrangement. Folded, the concept presents a phone-sized outer screen; opened, it becomes a larger tablet-style workspace. TECNO also described partially opened laptop-style and tent-like positions, including a mode where a screen section could serve as a virtual keyboard or support surface.

These are proposed uses for the concept, not confirmed features of a future shipping phone. A behind-glass display does not establish how smoothly its software, hinges or screen would perform in everyday use.
TECNO’s stated display and design specifications
The figures below come from TECNO’s 2024 concept announcement, rather than independently verified retail specifications. What the durability claims do—and do not—tell you
TECNO presented the hinge and fold-cycle figures as design claims for its concept. A claim of more than 300,000 folds is not an independent endurance result, a consumer warranty, or proof of how a finished phone would withstand years of use. Likewise, the approximately 11 mm figure does not establish the dimensions of a production model.
Two hinges and a three-section display also bring more mechanical complexity than a conventional phone or a single-hinge foldable. The MWC display format did not provide a reliable basis to assess hinge feel, crease visibility, weight, ergonomics, heat, battery life, cameras or software stability.

Was the PHANTOM ULTIMATE 2 launched or available to buy?
No commercial launch is established by the cited announcements and event coverage. TECNO introduced the device as a concept in August 2024 and later displayed it at MWC 2025; the material cited here gives no confirmed retail price, release date, sales markets, carrier arrangements or purchase channel. A pre-event report based on comments from TECNO staff anticipated the MWC showing, but that expectation was about a demonstration, not a sales debut. Why the concept matters despite not being a product launch
A tri-fold design aims to combine a phone-sized folded form with a tablet-sized screen when opened. TECNO’s proposed 10-inch, 4:3 workspace could suit documents, browsing and multitasking, while the partially folded positions suggest other ways to use the screen. Those are design ambitions, not verified everyday benefits: no confirmed price or retail hardware exists here to compare with commercially sold foldables.
TECNO has since introduced another concept under related PHANTOM ULTIMATE branding, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept. It is a separate design and should not be confused with the PHANTOM ULTIMATE 2 shown at MWC 2025. TECNO’s later announcement identifies that different concept.
