TAG Heuer’s current Connected generation is the Calibre E5, introduced in 2025. Unlike the Wear OS-based Calibre E4, E5 runs TAG Heuer OS, supports iOS 18 or later and Android 13 or later, and does not support contactless payments. The US range checked on August 16, 2026, spans roughly $1,650 to $2,550, with 40 mm and 45 mm watches plus Golf, TaylorMade, Formula 1 and New Balance editions.
The central choice is not simply which finish you prefer: it is whether you want TAG Heuer’s luxury materials and curated sports software, or the broader payments, apps and training tools offered by Apple Watch, Garmin or Wear OS alternatives.
What the TAG Heuer Connected collection is
Connected is TAG Heuer’s smartwatch line, separate from mechanical collections such as Carrera, Monaco, Aquaracer and Formula 1. The generation history explains why older reviews can be misleading:
| Generation | Approximate release | Operating system | Position today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calibre E1 | 2015 | Wear OS by Google | Legacy |
| Calibre E2 | 2017 | Wear OS by Google | Legacy |
| Calibre E3 | 2020 | Wear OS by Google | Legacy |
| Calibre E4 | 2022 | Wear OS by Google | Previous/discontinued generation |
| Calibre E5 | 2025 | TAG Heuer OS | Current generation |
TAG Heuer’s pairing documentation treats E5 as a separate platform. It is not a Wear OS watch with a new skin.

Standard Calibre E5: choosing 40 mm or 45 mm
40 mm
The 40 mm case is the sensible choice for smaller wrists, lighter everyday wear and runners who dislike bulky sports watches. The New Balance model has a 1.2-inch, 390 × 390 OLED display, a 300 mAh battery and TAG Heuer’s rating of 1.5 days in full-performance mode or up to two days in low-power mode.
45 mm
The 45 mm case gives golf maps, race information and notifications more screen area and suits larger wrists or buyers who prefer a more substantial watch presence. Selected 45 mm E5 models use a 1.39-inch, 454 × 454 display, 419 mAh battery, up to three days in low-power mode and about 17 hours in sport mode.

Hardware and everyday capabilities
Across current E5 references, TAG Heuer lists sapphire crystal, OLED displays, a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100+ processor, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, GNSS, microphone, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter and heart-rate sensing. Water resistance is 50 m, and straps are interchangeable; exact case material, thickness, display and strap depend on the reference. The four-pin charger typically takes about 90 minutes for a full charge.
TAG Heuer OS provides watch faces and widgets, calls handled from the watch, voice-assistant access, heart-rate and activity tracking, sports modes, sleep and wellness tracking, GPS/GNSS recording, TAG Heuer Golf, TAG Heuer Sports and TAG Heuer Wellness.
The four specialist editions
Golf Edition
The 45 mm Golf Edition combines a black DLC-coated titanium case with a ceramic bezel engraved with an 18-hole scale. TAG Heuer Golf supplies shot tracking, course maps and game statistics. Its 1.39-inch sapphire-protected display and 419 mAh battery carry the 45 mm ratings: up to three days in low-power mode and about 17 hours in sport mode. It is primarily a design-and-bundle upgrade; confirm the exact software included with the reference because standard E5 watches may also support TAG Heuer Golf.

TaylorMade Edition
Launched for sale June 25, 2026, the 45 mm TaylorMade Edition adds automatic shot tracking, hole-layout views, automatic Strokes Gained, TaylorMade performance analysis and complications for longest drive, best score, last score, rounds and birdies. It also has exclusive faces, co-branded packaging and strap details. Automatic capture is not a guarantee of perfect detection: GPS conditions, obstructions, swing type and user behavior can affect results.
The broader collaboration includes a Spider ZT x TAG Heuer putter, duffle bag, hats and gloves. View the TAG Heuer model and TaylorMade’s collaboration announcement.

Formula 1 Edition
This $2,550 45 mm titanium model uses a black DLC case, black ceramic bezel, red accents and a themed strap. Its software includes 24 race-track faces, a Grand Prix calendar, schedules, results, driver and team standings, and race-weekend widgets. TAG Heuer says faces update through the season for the upcoming circuit. The premium is chiefly about design, fandom and themed information, not superior general fitness hardware.
New Balance Edition
The $1,650 40 mm collaboration is limited to 3,000 pieces. It adds six New Balance running plans, branded faces, a black DLC-coated grade 2 titanium case and an additional strap. Heart-rate, GPS, altimeter, sleep, SpO2 and heart-rate-variability tracking support its running and wellness focus. Its 1.5-day full-performance and two-day low-power ratings are shorter than the published low-power figure for selected 45 mm models.
TAG Heuer OS, pairing and phone support
Compatible phones
E5 requires iOS 18 or later or Android 13 or later and pairs exclusively through the TAG Heuer Connected app. It has Made for iPhone certification, but that does not provide Apple Watch-level integration. Older compatibility tables may describe E1–E4 and should not be applied to E5.
What the platform does not provide
The E5 does not support contactless payments on either Android or iOS. TAG Heuer’s payment table records Google Wallet support for E4 on Android, but not for E5. Do not assume Wear OS apps, Google Play apps, Google Assistant behavior, Wear OS faces, offline music, navigation or messaging features carry over. Verify each feature for the exact model before buying.
For a current reference, consult the contactless-payments FAQ.

Updating an E5
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Select General.
- Select Updates.
- Choose Update all when updates are available.
For automatic updates, connect the watch to Wi-Fi, keep it connected to the TAG Heuer Connected app and leave it on its charger overnight. The official update instructions use a different path for E4: Settings, System, Update, with TAG Heuer apps updated through the watch’s Play Store.
Battery life: read the mode, not just the headline
TAG Heuer’s figures are mode-dependent. Selected 45 mm E5 watches are rated up to three days in low-power mode, about 17 hours in sport mode and approximately 90 minutes for a full charge. TaylorMade material states up to 12 hours of golf use and roughly a day from a 30-minute charge. The 40 mm New Balance model is rated at 1.5 days at full performance or up to two days in low-power mode.
GPS, golf tracking, calls, notifications, Wi-Fi, brightness, always-on display, software and battery age can reduce those results. “Three-day battery life” should therefore never be read as three days of unrestricted mixed use.
Calibre E4 versus E5
| Calibre E4 | Calibre E5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Wear OS by Google | TAG Heuer OS |
| Release | 2022 | 2025 |
| Payments | Google Wallet on Android; not iOS | No contactless payments |
| Pairing | E3/E4 TAG Heuer Connected app | TAG Heuer Connected app only |
| Status | Previous generation; some references marked discontinued | Current collection |
| Best reason to buy | Discounted Wear OS and Android payments | Current hardware, design and TAG Heuer OS |
A used E4 can make sense at a substantial discount if Android Google Wallet and Wear OS apps matter. It is not an E5 equivalent: software, pairing, battery behavior and likely remaining support differ. Preserve the old setup until an upgrade is paired and any available data transfer is confirmed.
Which Connected should you buy?
- Standard E5: the broadest choice if you want TAG Heuer styling, interchangeable straps and either size without a collaboration theme.
- 40 mm New Balance: the clearest current option for smaller wrists and runners who value the included plans and lowest observed E5 price.
- Golf Edition: choose it for the 18-hole bezel, golf presentation and TAG Heuer Golf experience.
- TaylorMade Edition: choose it when automatic shot tracking, Strokes Gained and TaylorMade analysis justify the premium.
- Formula 1 Edition: choose it for race-track faces, schedules, results and themed design rather than extra training capability.
- Another smartwatch: choose Apple Watch for iPhone integration and payments, Garmin for deeper training, navigation and longer endurance, or Wear OS for Google services, Google Wallet and a broader app ecosystem.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the reference is E5, not E4 or an earlier Connected generation.
- Choose 40 mm or 45 mm by measuring your wrist and comparing an existing watch.
- Check that your phone runs iOS 18+ or Android 13+.
- Decide whether the lack of contactless payments is acceptable.
- Verify the charger, warranty, case material, strap and regional availability.
- Match the edition’s real software benefits to your sport; do not pay for branding you will not use.
- For third-party purchases, confirm whether the watch is new, refurbished or used and check the exact model number.
Bottom line
The Calibre E5 is best understood as a luxury connected sports watch, not a conventional Wear OS smartwatch. It rewards buyers who prioritize TAG Heuer design, sapphire and titanium construction, curated golf, running or Formula 1 experiences, and a choice of 40 mm or 45 mm cases. It is a poor fit if contactless payments, a large app store, cellular service, advanced training analytics or very long battery life are essential.
