Short answer: T-Mobile 5G Home Internet can be a convenient, contract-free alternative to cable, DSL, or satellite—if your exact address qualifies and the gateway receives a strong signal. Pricing, available plans, discounts, and even eligibility depend on your address, local network capacity, and whether you also have T-Mobile wireless service. Check your address before treating any advertised price as your final bill.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is strongest for households without fiber or reliable cable, renters who want self-installation, and existing T-Mobile wireless customers who can receive bundle savings. It is less attractive when fiber is available at a similar price, when a household needs consistently low latency and high upload performance, or when local cellular capacity is congested.

T-Mobile does not publish one price table that applies identically to every household. The plans and prices shown after an address check can change based on service capacity, account status, AutoPay, and qualifying T-Mobile voice service. Existing customers may see different offers after signing in.

- Taxes, regulatory fees, and recovery charges.
- Whether the standard gateway has a monthly equipment fee.
- Optional speed, equipment, or third-party-service upgrades.
- Any activation, connection, or support charges shown at checkout.
- Gateway-return obligations after cancellation.
T-Mobile says the standard gateway is included without a monthly equipment fee. However, failing to return the gateway after cancellation can result in a charge of up to $370. Keep the packaging and shipping records until the account is closed and the equipment return is confirmed.
Some T-Mobile materials describe regulatory and recovery fees of $1.40 per data-only line for certain accounts, while taxes and fees may be approximately 3%–12% of the bill. Those figures are not universal: your jurisdiction, account, and plan determine the final amount.

Five-year price guarantee
Eligible newer plans—including Rely Internet, Amplified Internet, All-In Internet, and AWAY—may include a five-year guarantee on the qualifying base service rate. This is not a lifetime price lock. Taxes and fees, voluntary equipment or speed upgrades, future wireless generations, selected limited-time promotions, per-use charges, and third-party services can be excluded. Changing plans or adding a line does not automatically restart the guarantee.

Up to $750 toward an early-termination fee
T-Mobile advertises reimbursement of up to $750 for qualifying customers switching from another provider. The benefit is subject to eligibility, a claim, and service requirements. T-Mobile’s deal information says validation requires 60 days of service and that reimbursement is delivered through a virtual prepaid card. Keep your former provider’s final bill and follow the claim deadline exactly.
15-day test drive
Qualifying new lines may be eligible for a 15-day test drive. The plan page says cancellation must occur within 15 days of home-internet activation and the gateway must be returned according to the offer terms. It is limited-time, limited to one per account, and may not combine with every discount.
Limited-time entertainment perks
T-Mobile has promoted six months of Apple TV+ as a limited-time benefit. Treat this as temporary, eligibility-based value—not as a permanent reduction in the internet price. Check the activation deadline and what happens if you cancel or change plans.
How T-Mobile 5G Home Internet works
This is fixed wireless access. A cellular 5G signal reaches the supplied gateway, which combines modem and router functions and distributes internet through Wi-Fi. Depending on the gateway model, Ethernet connections may also be available.
It is not the same as a phone hotspot. Standard residential plans are intended for the approved service address, and customers generally do not install an outdoor antenna or run a new cable line.
Is it available at your address?
No. T-Mobile eligibility is address-specific and partly capacity-based. A nearby house may qualify while yours does not. Capacity can also change as more customers join the local network.
- Open the eligibility checker.
- Enter the exact street address.
- Select the correct unit or apartment number.
- Review the plans displayed for that address.
- Sign in or enter mobile-line details to see applicable bundle pricing.
- Confirm the final monthly price, taxes, delivery estimate, and terms.
Installation and gateway placement
T-Mobile promotes self-installation and says customers can go from the box to browsing in about 15 minutes or less. That is an installation estimate, not a guarantee of strong coverage throughout the home.

- Place the gateway near a window or elevated position with a strong cellular signal.
- Connect it to power.
- Follow the T-Life app or included setup instructions.
- Connect devices over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Try several windows and rooms before judging the service.
A gateway location that works well for the cellular signal may not provide the best Wi-Fi coverage. Test the rooms where people actually work, stream, and play.
What speeds and performance should you expect?
Do not assume that the word “5G” predicts a particular speed. Performance depends on the serving site, signal strength and quality, building materials, gateway placement, local capacity, time of day, and simultaneous use.
T-Mobile says it does not currently offer tiered pricing based on speed; customers receive the best available speeds for their location and plan. That does not mean every address performs alike, and it is not a fixed speed guarantee.
Congestion matters
T-Mobile states that home-internet traffic may be deprioritized during congestion. You may therefore see lower speeds than other network traffic, particularly during busy evening periods. A single daytime speed test cannot establish how the service will perform over a month.
Test morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend performance. Also test while several devices are active, because 4K streams, cloud backups, game downloads, and video calls compete for the same connection.
Streaming
Streaming can work well when the signal is strong and available capacity is sufficient. Several simultaneous 4K streams may expose limits, and some live-TV services can have compatibility, location, or IP-address issues. Video resolution depends on available speeds.
Gaming
Casual gaming may be fine, but download speed is not the only issue. Latency, jitter, congestion, and cellular NAT can affect play. Port forwarding, hosting servers, and some peer-to-peer functions may be limited. Competitive gamers should test the service at peak times rather than assume it will match fiber.

Remote work
Video calls and ordinary business use can be reliable if the signal is stable. People dependent on uninterrupted VPN sessions, VoIP, large uploads, or mission-critical connectivity should keep their old service until T-Mobile passes a full trial.
Can you move the gateway?
Standard Rely, Amplified, and All-In residential plans are intended for the approved home address. They should not be treated as portable RV service or freely shared between houses.
For a household move, check the new address, contact T-Mobile to update the service address, take the gateway to the new home, and install it again. See T-Mobile’s transfer instructions.
AWAY is different. T-Mobile describes it as usable nationwide across its network after activation, but it has different rules and should not be used primarily in one fixed location. Do not confuse AWAY’s mobility terms with ordinary residential service.
What to do during the test period
- Measure performance in the morning, evening, and on weekends.
- Test with both Wi-Fi and Ethernet where possible.
- Try multiple windows, elevated surfaces, and rooms.
- Test the rooms used for work, streaming, and gaming.
- Check video-call stability, upload speed, latency, and game behavior—not just download speed.
- Test your preferred streaming-TV service.
- Keep the gateway, box, labels, and tracking information.
- If cancelling, confirm the cancellation date and return deadline in writing.
- Save the equipment-return tracking number.
T-Mobile versus the alternatives

Verizon’s official 5G Home Internet page currently shows multiple tiers, included routers, plan-specific price-lock periods, a 30-day money-back guarantee, and all-in pricing claims. Those offers also depend on address, AutoPay, plan, and Verizon mobile service.
Who should get T-Mobile 5G Home Internet?
It is a strong candidate when:
- Fiber and reliable cable are unavailable or expensive.
- Your address qualifies with a strong indoor 5G signal.
- You want self-installation and no annual contract.
- A T-Mobile wireless bundle reduces the actual bill.
- Your household has moderate rather than extreme bandwidth needs.
- You can use the trial period to test evening performance.
Consider skipping it when:
- Fiber is available at a similar total price.
- You require consistently low latency or high upload performance.
- You host servers, cameras, or other inbound services.
- Several people need heavy uploads at the same time.
- Your local area is congested.
- You expect to move the gateway between addresses.
- You cannot tolerate variable evening performance.

Is the router included?
T-Mobile includes a 5G Wi-Fi Gateway with standard service and says there is no monthly equipment fee. A gateway must generally be returned after cancellation, or a non-return charge may apply.
Does T-Mobile guarantee a particular speed?
No fixed speed should be assumed. Results depend on signal, gateway placement, capacity, congestion, and household usage.
Is there a contract?

Can I use my own router?
