Verdict: The Status Audio Between 3ANC is a music-first true-wireless earbud with unusually spacious sound, long battery life, multipoint, wireless charging and good call performance. Its large, ear-dependent fit, merely moderate ANC, SBC/AAC-only Bluetooth and a reported charging-contact problem keep it from being a universal recommendation. At the roughly $99–$125 sale prices shown on Status Audio pages in August 2026, it is compelling; at its original $249 MSRP, it is difficult to justify.

Status launched the Between 3ANC on April 12, 2023, at approximately $249. Status pages have shown materially different prices—$99, $125 and $179—so check the live checkout total, color availability, shipping and return terms rather than relying on an old “current price.”

What the Between 3ANC is
These are true-wireless earbuds with a hybrid triple-driver design: one 10 mm dynamic driver handles bass while two balanced-armature drivers cover mids and treble in each earbud. They also offer active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, Bluetooth 5.2, multipoint pairing, wireless charging, IPX5 water resistance and six beamforming microphones (three per earbud). The iOS and Android app provides presets, a graphic/custom equalizer and firmware updates.

Sound quality is the main reason to buy
The Between 3ANC can sound broad, energetic and surprisingly separated for a discounted earbud. Reviewers reported a spacious presentation, clear vocals, lively high frequencies and bass that suits pop, rock, electronic, hip-hop, jazz and live recordings. The three-driver specification helps explain the design, but it is not proof of superiority: fit, seal, crossover design, amplification and tuning matter just as much.
There is no single universally “correct” tuning here. SoundGuys preferred the default and Original Between Pro profiles to the more neutral Audiophile setting for enjoyable listening, while Digital Trends found the upper frequencies could become slightly harsh. Some listeners will hear welcome punch; others may find the bass balance or treble presentation imperfect. In other words, “superb” describes a strong listening match, not an objective measurement of every ear.
The app’s presets and adjustable frequency bands let you save a custom profile. EQ is useful for reducing brightness or adding low end, but large bass boosts can introduce distortion, so make small changes first.

Fit and comfort: excellent for some ears, awkward for others
The package includes three silicone-tip sizes and three fit-wing sizes. The wings can anchor the relatively large, block-shaped housings, and HotHardware found them exceptionally comfortable over long sessions. That is not a universal result. SoundGuys experienced an insecure fit and discomfort, and the earbuds may droop, need readjustment while walking or press against larger outer ears and earrings. Left and right ears may require different tip or wing sizes.
Comfort cannot be generalized from one reviewer’s ears. Spend time trying every combination before judging sound or ANC; a poor seal harms both. A direct purchase is safer because Status advertises a 30-day performance/sound-check guarantee, subject to the retailer’s current terms.
ANC is adequate, not a reason to overpay
Status advertises hybrid ANC of more than 38 dB. That is a manufacturer figure, not a standardized real-world ranking. Independent results differed: SoundGuys found relatively little active attenuation in important frequency ranges, with passive isolation doing much of the work, while TechRadar’s experience was more favorable. Wind can also create an unpleasant whooshing effect.

Expect useful reduction of office noise, HVAC hum and general background sound when the tips seal well. Do not buy these expecting the strongest airplane or subway performance from Bose, Sony or similar ANC-focused models. A good physical seal can make the ANC seem stronger, which is one reason fit explains some of the disagreement.
Transparency mode
Transparency is available from the earbuds’ controls. Impressions vary, and some user comments describe natural ambient sound, but those reports are anecdotal rather than controlled comparisons. Treat it as a useful convenience, not a best-in-class feature.
Calls, controls and multipoint
Status specifies six environmental-noise-reducing beamforming microphones. Digital Trends and HotHardware both reported strong incoming and outgoing call quality. Performance can still change in wind, traffic, cafés and busy offices.

Touch controls sit on the broad outer surfaces, making them easy to locate but also vulnerable to accidental presses. There are no wear sensors for automatic pause/resume, and SoundGuys reported that controls cannot be freely remapped in the app. Multipoint pairing with two devices worked smoothly in independent testing, making these practical for switching between a phone and computer.

Status rates the earbuds for up to eight hours with ANC enabled, 12 hours with ANC disabled and up to 36 hours including the case. SoundGuys exceeded eight hours with ANC on in testing. Actual endurance changes with volume, calls, microphones, codec and ANC mode. USB-C and wireless charging are included.

This is one review-period observation, not proof every unit is defective. After unboxing, confirm that each earbud disconnects and begins charging every time. If not, reseat the wing, clean the contacts, install any firmware update and contact the seller promptly.

Codecs, app and durability
The earbuds support SBC and AAC, but independent reviews found no aptX, aptX Adaptive or LDAC. That matters most to Android users who specifically want higher-bitrate codecs; iPhone users generally use AAC. The absence of LDAC does not make the sound poor—tuning and transducer implementation remain important—but codec-focused buyers have better-matched alternatives.
IPX5 means protection from water jets, sweat and rain. It is not a swimming rating, and the charging case is not waterproof. The case itself was described as solid with a robust hinge. Status lists a one-year limited warranty for qualifying defects; that warranty is separate from the 30-day return/trial period.

Who should buy—and who should skip
- Buy if music quality, battery life, multipoint, wireless charging and adjustable wings matter more than maximum ANC, and you can purchase near $100–$125.
- Buy only on sale if you use ANC mainly in offices or moderate commutes, are comfortable with an older Bluetooth 5.2 model and can test the fit.
- Skip if you require LDAC or aptX Adaptive, compact low-profile earbuds, automatic pause, fully remappable controls, highly reliable wind handling or the best possible ANC.
Alternatives by priority
- Apple AirPods Pro 2: a more integrated choice for Apple-device owners.
- Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds: better suited to buyers prioritizing powerful ANC and Bose’s noise-control features.
- Technics EAH-AZ80: a premium alternative for sound, multipoint and call performance.
- Sony WF-1000XM4/WF-1000XM5 family: relevant when advanced ANC and higher-quality codec support matter most; verify model availability and pricing.
- Status Between Pro: a lower-cost, sound-focused in-family option if you do not need ANC; check current availability.
First 10 minutes with the earbuds
- Install the Status app and update firmware.
- Try every tip and wing size, including different combinations in each ear.
- Check that both earbuds disconnect and charge when placed in the case.
- Listen with the default profile before experimenting with EQ; avoid extreme bass boosts.
- Test multipoint, transparency and calls in the places where you actually work or commute.
- Keep the receipt and confirm the current 30-day trial and one-year warranty terms.
Final verdict
The Between 3ANC is a compelling discounted earbud, not a flawless premium one. Its expansive, energetic sound, long endurance, multipoint, wireless charging and generally strong calls can outweigh its shortcomings for music-first listeners. The large, variable fit, moderate and wind-sensitive ANC, limited codecs, fixed control layout and possible charging-contact issue require caution. Buy direct near $99–$125 so you can test the fit and charging behavior; at $249, choose a newer competitor instead.
