Starlink Mini is a portable satellite-internet terminal, not a battery-powered hotspot. In the United States, Starlink lists the Mini Kit from $199 as of August 16, 2026, but internet service requires a separate monthly plan. The practical first-year cost is therefore hardware plus 12 months of service, taxes, shipping, power equipment, and any mounting accessories.
Mini suits campers, RV travelers, remote workers, rural backup users, and emergency kits that can obtain a clear view of the sky. It is less compelling for people with reliable 5G or fixed broadband, dense tree cover, or no way to provide external power.
What is Starlink Mini?
Starlink Mini is Starlink’s compact customer terminal: an electronic phased-array antenna and Wi‑Fi router in one portable unit. Starlink says it can fit in a backpack and be deployed in minutes. It can be used at a temporary campsite, an RV, a boat in eligible waters, or a home without dependable terrestrial broadband. It is unrelated to Starlink V2 Mini, the smaller class of satellites launched into orbit.
“Portable” describes the terminal, not a built-in battery. The standard kit needs AC, vehicle DC, a power station, or a suitably specified external USB-C battery arrangement.

Starlink Mini price in 2026
| Cost | What is established |
|---|---|
| Hardware | U.S. Mini Kit starts at $199 on Starlink’s product page as of August 16, 2026. Starlink U.S. Mini page |
| Service | An active Starlink plan is required; prices vary by country, address, taxes, and account. |
| Illustrative first year | $199 + $55 × 12 = $859 before tax, shipping, accessories, or power equipment, using the U.S. Roam 100GB price shown by Starlink’s Help Center. |
| Historical context | The U.S. launch price in June 2024 was approximately $599, so older reviews are not current pricing references. TechCrunch |

Which Starlink plan does Mini need?
| Plan shown by Starlink’s current Help Center | Price | High-speed allowance | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roam 100GB | $55/month | 100GB | Occasional travel and moderate use |
| Roam 300GB (U.S./Canada) | $80/month | 300GB | Frequent travel or remote work |
| Roam Unlimited | $175/month | Unlimited under the plan’s terms | Heavy mobile use |
After the high-speed allowance on metered Roam plans, service continues at low speed under Starlink’s terms. Streaming, cloud backups, software updates, and several video callers can consume 100GB quickly. Plan names and prices are not globally uniform: other Starlink pages still display older or regional figures, including $80 for 50GB and $160 for Unlimited. Confirm the offer shown in your account or checkout at the time of purchase. Starlink announced in January 2026 that it had doubled the former 50GB allowance to 100GB in most markets. Roam plans Help Center · Service plans · January 2026 update
Standby Mode can pause and resume service for a reduced recurring charge, but the amount and available features depend on country and account. Pausing is not the same as canceling.

How to set up Starlink Mini
- Enter your country and service address on Starlink’s site to check hardware, plan, and regulatory availability.
- Place the terminal outdoors with as much unobstructed sky as possible; avoid trees, buildings, cliffs, and roof edges.
- Deploy the kickstand, Flat Mount, or a properly rated permanent mount.
- Connect the Starlink cable and power supply, then wait for acquisition.
- Open the Starlink app on iOS or Android and run the obstruction check.
- Connect phones, computers, or other equipment to the built-in Wi‑Fi. Use the single Ethernet port for compatible wired networking.
- Test service before finalizing a campsite or permanent installation; relocate the terminal if interruptions correlate with obstructions.
The app and setup resources are linked from Starlink’s Mini specifications page. Mini is manually oriented with software assistance, so do not expect the motorized repositioning behavior associated with descriptions of some larger terminals.
Power requirements and real portability
At the published 25–40W average, four hours requires roughly 100Wh and eight hours roughly 320Wh before inverter, cable, battery, and charging losses. These are planning calculations, not guaranteed runtimes; cold, network activity, boot cycles, and snow-melt operation can change consumption.

For USB-C operation, Starlink specifies a compatible 100W USB Power Delivery source with 20V/5A minimum when used with its optional USB-C-to-barrel-jack cable. Small phone power banks commonly cannot sustain those requirements. Verify voltage, wattage, connector, fusing, and environmental protection for a vehicle or off-grid installation. Where is Starlink Mini available?
The official U.S. page confirms U.S. sales. Starlink also offers Mini in other markets, but hardware price, tax, plan names, delivery, mobility rights, and regulatory approval vary. Use the country selector and location-specific checkout rather than applying the U.S. $199 figure internationally.
Starlink says Roam supports travel across more than 150 countries, territories, and markets where service is available. That does not mean unrestricted worldwide use. Its promotional support documentation describes international trips of up to 60 days per trip, while plan, country, and regulatory restrictions still apply. Roam page · Travel support

Rank #4
- Compact & Modern Design – The Router Mini features a slim, minimalist profile (138 × 83.6 × 27 mm) that fits seamlessly into any home, office, or travel setup.
Home broadband
Mini can serve a home, but Residential service may be better value for a fixed location and unlimited household use. Choose Mini mainly for its compact size or lower published power draw.
Boating
Roam supports eligible inland and coastal use, but open-ocean and in-motion operation have separate plan, hardware, country, and regulatory limitations. Do not treat ordinary portable use as permission to operate while driving or underway. Fair Use Policy
Backpacking and emergency kits
Mini is light compared with larger terminals but still needs a capable external battery and an unobstructed deployment site. It is not an instant indoor or under-canopy connection.
Starlink Mini versus a larger Starlink terminal
| Consideration | Mini | Larger fixed terminal |
|---|---|---|
| Best use | Travel, RVs, temporary sites, low-power deployments | Permanent residential installation |
| Portability | 1.10 kg terminal and compact form | Less convenient to move |
| Power | Published average 25–40W | Model-specific; check the applicable specification |
| Router | Integrated Wi‑Fi 5 | Model and package specific |
| Networking | One Ethernet port; compatible with Starlink mesh, not third-party mesh | More suitable for elaborate fixed installations, depending on model |
| Decision priority | Portability and power | Fixed-location capacity and installation |
Main limitations
- Sky visibility: trees, buildings, terrain, and roof structures can interrupt service.
- Variable performance: “up to 300+ Mbps” is not a minimum; congestion and obstructions can reduce speeds.
- Roam priority: Starlink’s Fair Use Policy says Mini Roam data is deprioritized relative to other Starlink service plans.
- External power: the kit is not self-contained or battery-powered.
- Wi‑Fi 5: adequate for ordinary travel use but older than Wi‑Fi 6 and Wi‑Fi 7.
- Limited wired expansion: one Starlink-connector Ethernet port may require extra hardware for complex networks.
- Changing prices: plan displays differ by market and can change, so stale launch articles are unreliable.

Promotional and retail availability
Some eligible legacy Residential Max customers may receive a Mini as a no-cost hardware rental and discounted Roam pricing while maintaining the qualifying residential line. This is a conditional promotion, not a universal free-Mini offer; changing or canceling the qualifying service can end the benefit and require a return. Promotion terms
Home Depot also lists a Starlink Mini Kit, but retailer inventory, price, bundles, returns, and activation terms can change. Starlink remains the primary source for service eligibility. Home Depot listing
Verdict
Starlink Mini is worth considering when portability, off-grid coverage, and lower published power consumption matter more than a fixed home network. The $199 U.S. hardware starting price is attractive, but the mandatory plan and external-power requirement define the real ownership cost. Buy it for access beyond dependable terrestrial networks—not because the terminal guarantees 300 Mbps or replaces a battery, clear sky, or location-specific service approval.
