Before you launch a small business website, check that a customer can understand what you offer, find the details they need, and contact you from a phone. Work through this checklist on the actual site you plan to publish; confirm any domain, security, language, or business feature you need with the website provider if it is not explicitly established below.

1. Make The Main Page Clear

  1. State what the business does. Put the business name and a plain description of its service or products near the top of the page. For example, a local repair business should say what it repairs and where it serves, if that location information is accurate.
  2. Give visitors a next step. Add a clear instruction, such as calling, requesting a quote, or visiting the business. Make sure the text describes an action the business can actually handle.
  3. Check every claim. Confirm that service descriptions, hours, prices, service areas, and other details are current. Remove sample copy and any promise the business cannot support.

2. Check The Essential Business Details

  • Contact: Check that the phone number, email address, and any contact instructions are correct. Tap the phone number on a smartphone and confirm it opens the expected call screen.
  • Hours and location: Check that opening hours and the address or service area match the business. If visitors need directions, confirm the location information is clear.
  • Products and services: Make sure each offer has an accurate name and description. If prices are shown, verify them with the person responsible for setting prices.
  • Images and branding: Use images that represent the actual business and check that the business name is consistent across the pages. Confirm that the business has permission to use each image, logo, and other supplied asset; licensing and reuse terms depend on the asset and its source.

3. Test The Site On A Smartphone

  1. Open the site on a phone and check the home page, service or product pages, and contact details.
  2. Read each page without zooming. Look for text that is cut off, crowded, or difficult to distinguish from its background.
  3. Tap every visible button and link. Confirm that it goes to the intended page or performs the action described by its label.
  4. Check that important information is easy to find by scrolling, including contact details and any next step for a customer.
  5. Ask someone unfamiliar with the site to find one service and the correct way to contact the business. Fix any point where they get stuck.

uKit says its designs are responsive on any device. That is a useful stated capability, but still inspect the specific pages and content on the phones your customers use.

4. Review Each Page Before Publishing

  • Check spelling, punctuation, business names, phone numbers, email addresses, and prices.
  • Remove unfinished pages, placeholder text, empty sections, and links that lead nowhere.
  • Make page headings specific. A visitor should be able to tell whether a page covers a service, product, business details, or contact information.
  • Read the site as a new customer would. Confirm that the path from learning about an offer to contacting the business is understandable.

5. Confirm The Domain And Security Details You Need

Decide what web address customers should use, then confirm with the provider that the domain setup you need is available on your chosen plan. uKit states that it supports custom domains and includes a free SSL certificate; its site also offers a 14 day free trial. Check the provider’s current terms and confirm that these details suit your intended setup before launch.
