To capture a webpage from a Laravel application with Spatie’s laravel-screenshot, install the package, choose where Chromium will run, then call the Screenshot facade. A basic capture takes one line: Screenshot::url('https://example.com')->save('screenshot.png'). The package documents a local Browsershot/Chromium driver and a Cloudflare Browser Rendering driver; the right choice depends on whether your Laravel host can run a browser and whether you want to use an external rendering service.
Install the Laravel screenshot package
Install Spatie’s package with Composer:

Choose where the browser runs
The package documents two drivers. This is the most important deployment decision: the default local driver needs browser runtime dependencies on your Laravel host, while the Cloudflare driver moves browser rendering to an external service.

Set the default driver through LARAVEL_SCREENSHOT_DRIVER or the package configuration. You can also choose a driver for an individual capture with driver('cloudflare'). See the installation and setup guide for the package’s current configuration details.

Take and save a basic screenshot
In application code, import the facade and provide the target URL and output path:

These are package defaults, not a guarantee that every target page will finish loading or look identical across environments. The output path is where the screenshot is saved; make sure the PHP process can write to the intended location.
Set dimensions and image quality
For a specific viewport and JPEG output, set dimensions and quality before saving:

A larger viewport can expose more of a page, but a normal viewport capture is not the same as a full-page capture. Confirm the package’s current supported methods before relying on an option not shown in its documentation.
Customize browser behavior with Browsershot
When you use the Browsershot driver, the package lets you configure Browsershot globally or for one capture. Its customization documentation shows examples for request headers, a custom user agent, cookies, dialog handling, and timeouts. Use these options when the target needs authentication, a particular browser identity, or more time to render. Keep credentials out of source control and use the application’s normal secret-management practices.
For per-capture customization, the documented approach is withBrowsershot(). Consult Spatie’s Browsershot customization guide for the supported API and examples. The same guide covers global configuration such as binary paths, which can matter when development and production hosts install Chromium in different locations.

Restricted containers and no-sandbox mode
In Docker or another restricted environment, the package documentation describes enabling no-sandbox mode globally with LARAVEL_SCREENSHOT_NO_SANDBOX=true or for a capture through Browsershot’s noSandbox(). Do not enable it automatically as a generic fix: sandbox settings affect browser isolation. Apply the change only when required by your environment and consistent with your deployment’s security requirements.
Move slow captures to a queue
A synchronous save() runs as part of the current request, so a slow page can keep the request open. If screenshot generation should happen in the background, the package documents saveQueued():

The package also documents queue, connection, delay, storage-disk, and replaceable-job configuration; its job class can be adjusted for retry, timeout, or backoff behavior. Decide how your application will notify a user or update a record when the queued file is ready, and set retry behavior to suit the target site and your workload. There is an important constraint: do not combine saveQueued() with withBrowsershot(). The documentation warns that the closure cannot reliably be serialized for a queued job. If a queued capture needs browser settings, use an approach supported by the package’s persistent configuration rather than passing that closure.
Use Dusk for browser-test screenshots
If your purpose is to capture evidence during a browser test, Laravel Dusk is a different fit. Dusk provides browser, responsive, and element screenshot methods in its test automation workflow. Spatie’s package is the flow described here for capturing a webpage from application code; its README also demonstrates faking capture in a test and asserting that a target URL was saved. See Laravel Dusk documentation for the testing API. Choose based on whether the screenshot is an application output or a test artifact, rather than treating the two tools as interchangeable.

Troubleshooting Laravel screenshot captures
- Missing Node.js, Chromium, or browser executable: This usually points to an incomplete Browsershot runtime or a path mismatch. Install the dependencies required by Browsershot in the deployment environment, verify the configured binary paths, or select the Cloudflare driver if the host should not run a local browser.
- Capture fails in a container: Check the Browsershot and Chromium configuration for that image. The package documents no-sandbox mode for restricted environments; use it only after reviewing your security requirements.
- The page is incomplete or appears blank: The documented default waits for network idle, but some sites continue making requests or render content after that point. Check the target page’s loading behavior and use documented timeout or dialog settings where appropriate. Do not assume that a successful method call means every page element was ready.
- Request takes too long: A synchronous capture occupies the current request while the page renders. Use
saveQueued()when your application can deliver the result asynchronously, and configure the queue worker and job timeout/retry behavior for your workload. - Queued capture cannot serialize its settings: Remove
withBrowsershot()from the queued call; the package warns that its closure cannot reliably be serialized. Configure supported settings outside that closure. - Output file is missing or unwritable: Confirm the destination path, filesystem permissions, and storage configuration for the PHP process or queue worker. For a queued job, check the worker’s logs and the queue connection as well as the web request logs.
- Cloudflare capture is not configured: Confirm current account setup and credentials with Cloudflare and verify that the application can reach the service. Limits and pricing are provider-specific and should be checked directly rather than inferred from the Laravel package.
Plan for latency, reliability, and cost
The package documentation establishes driver choices and queueing behavior, but it does not establish a reliable latency comparison or current cost comparison between local Browsershot and Cloudflare Browser Rendering. Actual duration depends on the page, browser startup, deployment resources, network, and service configuration. Measure representative URLs in your own environment before setting user-facing deadlines.
For a request that must return promptly, queueing separates page rendering from the user’s request but adds the operational need for a worker, result persistence, and a way to communicate completion. For a local driver, include Chromium and its dependencies in deployment and monitor disk, memory, and process capacity. For a hosted driver, account for the external service and verify its current credentials, limits, and pricing with its provider. Neither driver removes the need to handle failures such as unreachable pages or pages that do not finish rendering.
