Verdict: ScalaCube is a real game-server host with an easy setup process, broad game support and a low-cost entry point. It can suit beginners and small vanilla or lightly modded Minecraft communities. The trade-offs are less clear renewal costs, mixed reports about support and refunds, and no independent evidence here that demanding modpacks will run smoothly on a given plan. ScalaCube advertises hosting for Minecraft Java and Bedrock as well as games including ARK: Survival Evolved, Rust, Valheim, Terraria, Factorio, Project Zomboid and Palworld. Its catalogue can change, so confirm that your game and the exact version you need are offered on the official site. This is shared game-server hosting, not a general-purpose VPS with root access.
Pricing: compare the first invoice with the renewal
ScalaCube’s Minecraft page advertises plans from $2 per month and a 50% discount on the first invoice. The low headline price is not the full ongoing cost. A third-party April 2026 snapshot reported the following approximate monthly prices for selected tiers; treat them as a dated reference, not a current quote:

Is the free plan useful?
A third-party 2026 review reported a free option with about 6 GB of Java RAM or 3 GB of Bedrock RAM, limited to two Java players or one Bedrock player. Public pages do not clearly expose every restriction, so confirm the current limits during account setup. It may be enough to try the panel or host a very small private world. It is not a like-for-like substitute for paid hosting: capacity, concurrency and available features can be restricted.
RAM alone does not predict performance. CPU allocation, disk I/O, the game and server software, world activity, network latency and the number of active players all matter. A generous RAM figure on a free plan therefore does not establish that it will outperform a paid server.
Features and day-to-day management
ScalaCube advertises one-click setup and modpack installation, plugin and custom-JAR support, FTP access, a free subdomain, MySQL, monitoring, DDoS protection, backups, multiple locations and plan upgrades without losing server files. Its setup flow lets customers select options such as location, Minecraft version, modpack and applications. These are useful conveniences, particularly for a first-time administrator; confirm the exact software version and features included with your selected plan.

The phrase “unlimited slots” needs context. It does not mean unlimited practical capacity. How many people can play without lag depends on the plan’s resources, game software, modpack, world and player activity. A server advertised for many slots may still struggle if its workload is heavy or its resources are undersized.
Performance: why workload matters more than a RAM label
ScalaCube advertises SSD options, several locations, DDoS protection and 99.9% availability. TechRadar described a straightforward dashboard with RAM and storage monitoring, but also reported that deployment could take at least ten minutes and sometimes longer. These signals do not establish how a particular server will perform.
Customer reports are mixed. Some reviewers describe smooth play and easy setup; others report lag, resource limits, deployment delays or errors. One Trustpilot reviewer in June 2026 said a 3 GB server struggled with two players using a light client-side modpack and reported API and ticket errors. A July 2026 reviewer alleged trouble with a Forge 1.20.1 setup and a refused refund. Those are individual accounts, not proof of a platform-wide fault or incompatibility.

For Minecraft, performance can depend on CPU single-thread speed and allocation, contention on the host node, Java version, server software (such as Vanilla, Paper, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge), modpack requirements, view and simulation distances, entities and redstone, world generation, player location and disk activity. A plan that is fine for a small Vanilla world may be inadequate for a large modpack. Verify the modpack’s stated requirements and ask the host about resources it does not disclose before paying.

What customer reviews say
At the time represented in the supplied review data, Trustpilot showed ScalaCube at 4.5 out of 5 from roughly 4,781 reviews, with 71% five-star and 11% one-star ratings. Positive accounts often mention ease of setup, the control panel, modpack tools and helpful support interactions. Negative accounts include complaints about lag, support or API errors, deployment, billing and refunds. Ratings summarize customer sentiment; they are not a performance test and can reflect self-selection, invitations and different customer expectations.
ScalaCube replies to negative reviews on Trustpilot, which indicates public review engagement, but does not guarantee a fast response to a private support ticket. At least one reviewer alleged being offered free time in exchange for writing a review; that individual allegation should not be generalized into a claim about all reviews.

Support: a 24/7 claim is not a response-time promise
ScalaCube advertises 24/7 customer service and offers tutorials. TechRadar’s review described ticket-based support that required users to sign in and reported staff hours of Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. GMT+2. Those accounts may describe different arrangements or points in time; they do not settle what human coverage is available now.
Before purchase, check the current support channel and hours, and distinguish the ability to submit a ticket at any time from a guarantee that a person will answer immediately. Ask whether technical and billing issues use the same channel, whether live chat is available, and what response expectations apply to urgent outages.

ScalaCube’s terms state that payments are eligible for a 100% refund within seven days, but add that refunds cannot be requested “for no valid reason.” They separately say automatic renewal payments are eligible for a 100% refund within ten days of payment. Cancellation must be made through the control panel; customers using PayPal may also need to cancel an active PayPal subscription themselves.

The wording leaves practical questions—including what counts as a valid reason and how usage, setup, add-ons or payment method affect eligibility. Read the terms that apply at checkout rather than assuming every situation qualifies. A customer’s report of a refused refund is a dispute, not a definitive interpretation of the policy.
- Before paying, save the checkout price, renewal rate, offer and applicable terms.
- Confirm the game, edition, software and modpack version, plus the resources they require.
- Test the server promptly after activation and document any faults with screenshots and ticket numbers.
- If you decide not to continue, cancel through the control panel before renewal; check for a separate payment subscription as well.
ScalaCube alternatives
Alternatives are worth comparing on the same basis: ongoing price, resource allocation, location, support terms and refund policy—not ratings alone.
- Shockbyte: Its site advertises Minecraft hosting from $3.99, support for more than 50 games and a three-day money-back guarantee. - BisectHosting: The comparison showed about 4.7/5 from roughly 27,000 reviews. Its larger review volume may help buyers who value a widely reviewed provider, but does not establish performance for a particular modpack.
- MCProHosting: TechRadar noted its ability to host and switch between multiple games on the same server, which may suit communities that rotate games.
Free hosts may work for occasional private play, but compare queueing, shutdown behavior, storage, backups, modpack support and control limitations before relying on one.
Who should choose ScalaCube?
- Consider it if you are new to server hosting, want a guided setup, need one-click modpack tools, or are running a small private Vanilla or lightly modded server and can monitor resource use.
- Compare alternatives carefully if you are hosting a demanding Forge or NeoForge pack, a larger community, or a server where downtime has real consequences. Look for disclosed CPU and memory allocations, workload-specific evidence and clear support terms.
- Look elsewhere if you need root access, guaranteed live human support, a contractual uptime commitment stronger than the published terms, or a simple unconditional refund policy.
Bottom line
ScalaCube’s strongest case is convenience: accessible setup, useful Minecraft management features and a low promotional entry price. Its weaker points are the gap between introductory and renewal pricing, uncertainty around human support availability, conditional refund wording and mixed workload-specific reports. It is a reasonable candidate for a small, carefully sized server—not a blanket recommendation for high-demand modded play. Choose only after confirming your full renewal cost, exact plan resources, support route and refund terms.
