For a single long image on desktop, Firefox is the clearest built-in option: open the page, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, then Download the PNG. On iPhone, Firefox’s documented full-page workflow saves a PDF instead. In Chrome, a Web Store extension can scroll and stitch the page before exporting PNG or JPEG.
The quickest method: Firefox on Windows, Linux or macOS
Mozilla documents full-page screenshots in Firefox, including a saved PNG or a clipboard copy. You can start from the context menu or a keyboard shortcut.
- Open the webpage and wait for the content you want to preserve.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot toolbar, choose Save full page. This tells Firefox to capture the page beyond the currently visible viewport.
- Select Download to save the image file. Mozilla identifies the downloaded screenshot as a PNG.
- Choose Copy instead if you need to paste the full capture into an editor, document or message without first saving a file.
Firefox also offers a visible-area capture. Use that option when you need only what is currently on screen rather than one tall image. The full-page command is the one to use for an article, documentation page or receipt that extends below the fold.
Mozilla’s instructions are documented in Take screenshots in Firefox. Browser controls can change between versions, so the label may move even though the workflow remains the same.

Chrome: use a scroll-and-stitch extension for PNG or JPEG
The evidence available for Chrome is extension-based rather than a documented built-in workflow. A Chrome Web Store listing for FullPage Capture – Full Page Screenshot describes an extension that scrolls through a webpage, captures sections and stitches them into one long result. Its listing describes PNG and JPEG downloads, along with PDF export.
- Open the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing and review its current permissions, privacy information and publisher notes.
- Install it only if those permissions fit the pages you plan to capture.
- Load the target page in a normal tab and wait for visible content, images and any expandable sections you need.
- Activate the extension from Chrome’s toolbar. Follow its capture control to start a full-page scroll-and-stitch operation.
- Choose PNG or JPEG when you need an image, or PDF when a document is more useful, then save the generated file.
The store page is a publisher-provided feature description, not proof that every page structure will render perfectly. Pages with bot checks, unusual scrolling containers, continuously changing content or browser restrictions may produce an incomplete result. Another listing, GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture, is also available in the Chrome Web Store; check its current listing and permissions before installing it.
iPhone: the documented full-page result is a PDF
Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS workflow creates a full-page document rather than a tall PNG or JPEG.
- Open the page in Firefox for iOS.
- Take a normal iPhone screenshot.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears.
- Choose Full Page at the top of the screenshot editor.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.

Make a long capture more reliable
Wait for the page’s real content
Capture after the headline, body, images and expandable sections you care about have loaded. A page that is still fetching content can result in blank areas or missing images regardless of the capture tool.
Watch for lazy loading and changing layouts
Scroll-and-stitch tools capture a page in sections. Lazy images may load only when their region enters the viewport, while advertisements, carousels or live counters can change between sections. If the result shows gaps or repeated elements, first let the page settle, disable optional moving content where the site allows it, and capture again.

Check nested scrolling areas
“Full page” normally means the document’s main scroll. A chat transcript, code pane or table inside its own scroll box may not be included in the same way. Capture that element separately if the tool offers an element-specific command, or use the element’s own export function.
Review extension permissions
A browser extension can potentially read page content. Before installing, inspect the current Chrome Web Store permissions and privacy disclosures, especially if you handle private dashboards, customer data or logged-in accounts.
Expect raster-image limitations
A PNG, JPEG or WebP is a picture, not a live webpage. Text will not remain selectable as HTML, links will not remain clickable, and very tall images can be awkward to open or share. Choose PDF when pagination, text selection or printing matters more than a single image.

Controls for difficult pages
- Run custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, hide selectors, or wait for a selector, a delay or network idle.
- Block ads, trackers, requests or resource types to make a cleaner and more predictable capture.

The Firefox “Take Screenshot” command is missing
Confirm that you are using desktop Firefox and right-click an empty page area rather than a browser toolbar or embedded frame. Try the documented shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. If the interface still differs, consult Mozilla’s current support page because browser labels can change.

The saved image stops before the bottom
Make sure Save full page, not a visible-area selection, is active. If the page uses an internal scroll panel, that panel may need a separate capture. For an extension, retry after the page finishes loading and check whether the listing documents limitations for that layout.
Images or sections are blank
