Yes—Samsung officially launched the One UI 8.5 beta program for Galaxy S25-series phones in the U.S. on December 8, 2025. Enrollment was handled through Samsung Members and initially covered the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra.
There is an important date distinction, however. As of August 18, 2026, this is no longer a newly launched beta: Samsung announced the stable One UI 8.5 rollout on May 6, 2026. The beta was real, but readers checking now should look for the stable update rather than expect a new S25 beta enrollment window.
Which Galaxy S25 phones were included?
Samsung’s initial announcement identified the Galaxy S25 series as the launch device family:
- Galaxy S25
- Galaxy S25+
- Galaxy S25 Ultra
The Galaxy S25 FE was not part of the initial launch group. Samsung added it later, alongside other Galaxy devices, during a subsequent beta expansion.

Although the U.S. was one of the initial markets, that did not mean every U.S. phone automatically qualified. Samsung says beta participation can depend on the exact device, country, firmware, Samsung Account, carrier variant, and operating-system version.
How enrollment worked
Samsung used the Samsung Members app for registration. The documented process was:
- Install or update Samsung Members through the Galaxy Store or Google Play.
- Sign in with a Samsung Account.
- Open the Samsung Members home screen and look for the One UI beta banner or Beta card.
- Select the registration option for the One UI Beta Program and submit the request.
- After enrollment, open Settings → Software update → Download and install.
Samsung’s labels can vary between app versions and markets, so the beta card may require scrolling. Registration also did not guarantee an immediate download: Samsung distributed beta updates gradually.

Participation was free. Samsung noted that mobile-data charges could apply when downloading software or sending logs, so Wi-Fi was the safer choice.
What One UI 8.5 introduced
Photo Assist and Quick Share improvements
Samsung announced an updated Photo Assist experience with image-generation and editing improvements. Users could continue working without saving every intermediate version, while edit history made it possible to review generated results.

Samsung also described Quick Share enhancements that could recognize people in photos and suggest sending the images to those contacts.
Generative Edit required a network connection and Samsung Account login. Samsung warned that generated images could be resized and receive a visible watermark. Availability could also vary by device and region.
Audio Broadcast and Storage Share
Audio Broadcast used supported LE Audio or Auracast devices to broadcast nearby audio. Samsung said the phone microphone could also transmit the user’s voice. In the initial announcement, the feature was specifically identified for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra.
Storage Share allowed compatible Galaxy devices to access files through My Files. Samsung listed support across certain phones, tablets, PCs, TVs, and Galaxy Books, but the feature was not universal.
Storage Share required the participating devices to use the same Samsung Account, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Samsung also listed One UI, kernel, Galaxy Book, and TV requirements, with availability dependent on model and region. Details are available in Samsung’s One UI 8.5 announcement.

Theft and authentication protections
Samsung highlighted new or expanded security controls, including Theft Protection, Failed Authentication Lock after repeated unsuccessful fingerprint, PIN, or password attempts, and broader Identity Check protections for sensitive settings.

What to consider before installing a beta
Beta software can contain bugs, incomplete features, and compatibility problems. Samsung warns that unexpected behavior or data loss can occur, and that a failed installation may require a reset or service-center assistance.
Before installation:
- Back up the phone to a computer with Samsung Smart Switch.
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, and app-specific content separately where necessary.
- Check banking, payment, authentication, camera, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and carrier functions after updating.
- Use Wi-Fi and install with sufficient battery charge and free storage.
- Avoid beta software on a primary work phone if downtime would be costly.
Smart Switch is useful for backups and rollback, but it should not be treated as proof that every app’s private data or cloud content will be restored perfectly.

For interface or usability suggestions, Samsung directed users to Participated Beta test → Beta Community → Suggestions.
Samsung recommended sending an error report within three minutes of encountering the problem and leaving Samsung Members open until the report finishes. The submission process could take up to five minutes.

Withdrawing from the program and removing beta software were separate actions.
- Open Samsung Members.
- Go to Settings → Beta program settings → Withdraw from beta program.
- Use Smart Switch on a computer to roll back to the previous official release if the beta is already installed.
Samsung says rollback resets the phone and removes data created during beta testing. Anyone who withdrew before installing the beta could continue using the current official software without performing a rollback.
Do not treat unofficial firmware flashing as the normal alternative. If installation fails, Samsung support or an authorized service center is the safer route.

What happened after the initial S25 beta?
Samsung later expanded the One UI 8.5 beta to additional devices, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 FE, and Galaxy Tab S11 in selected markets, including the U.S. Availability and timing varied.
On May 6, 2026, Samsung announced the official One UI 8.5 rollout, initially in Korea, with other markets to follow. The rollout announcement listed the Galaxy S25 series, S25 FE, S24 series, S24 FE, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Tab S11 series, and Tab S10 series among the devices receiving the software.
Samsung did not establish one universal U.S. release date in that announcement. Update timing can differ by model, market, and carrier.
Should you join the One UI 8.5 beta?
During the beta period, it made sense for enthusiasts, owners of backup phones, and users willing to submit diagnostic feedback. The trade-off was early access in exchange for possible bugs, data-loss risk, app incompatibility, gradual updates, and a potentially destructive rollback.
As of August 18, 2026, most Galaxy S25 owners should use the stable release instead. The beta phase has already served its purpose, and there is little reason to accept beta risks when Samsung has begun distributing One UI 8.5 officially.
