The $1,799 Samsung 77-inch S84D OLED deal is no longer a live offer. Best Buy’s product record now shows the set unavailable; a later $1,259.99 clearance listing was also sold out. The headline price was a substantial discount from the listing’s $3,299 comparison price, but it was not the lowest documented price: the S84D appeared at Best Buy for about $1,599.99 in late 2024.
This is a 2024, 77-inch 4K OLED television, model QN77S84DAEXZA or QN77S84DBEXZA—not the S85D or S90D. If you find one elsewhere, judge it by its condition, warranty, return policy, and actual checkout price rather than a stale deal headline.
Was the $1,799 deal good?
For a new 77-inch OLED with a standard return window and warranty, $1,799 would have been a compelling price for buyers prioritizing OLED contrast and a very large screen. Against the advertised $3,299 comparison price, it represented a nominal $1,500 discount, or about 45.5%. But that comparison figure is not proof the TV routinely sold for $3,299, and historical deal coverage records a lower Best Buy price of approximately $1,599.99. So $1,799 was attractive, not a verified all-time low.

Best Buy’s later $1,259.99 clearance price is not a usable alternative for most shoppers: the listing was marked sold out or unavailable, and clearance pricing does not establish that a new, warrantied unit can be purchased. Check the Best Buy listing for current stock, but do not treat a product page or old price as proof of checkout availability. The retailer snapshot available for this article showed no new-condition inventory. Availability, delivery, and pickup can also vary by ZIP code.

What the Samsung S84D is
The S84D is Samsung’s retailer-specific 2024 OLED model: a 77-inch-class 4K television running Samsung’s Tizen smart-TV platform. Best Buy’s product material lists the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor, HDR10 and HDR10+ support, built-in Alexa, and compatibility with Samsung SmartThings and Google Home. It also lists Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Lite support. Samsung’s official 2024 lineup announcement names the S85D and other OLED models; do not assume that the S84D is interchangeable with an S85D or S90D merely because the names are similar.
OLED is the central reason to consider it. Each pixel emits its own light, so the TV can produce deep blacks without the backlight blooming that can appear around bright objects on many LCD sets. That can make films and other dark-room viewing especially appealing. At 77 inches, the screen can also make a living room feel more cinematic—provided it fits the room and viewing distance.

The retailer specification record lists a width of about 67.5 inches, a depth of 1.8 inches without the stand and 14.2 inches with it, and a weight of about 77.8 pounds with the stand. Measure the console or wall, check the console’s load rating, and make sure the set can pass through doors, stairs, and elevators. If wall mounting, confirm VESA compatibility and stud placement for the exact unit; leave room for any soundbar beneath it.

- Picture: 4K resolution and OLED contrast. Do not assume it matches the brightness of Samsung’s higher-tier OLEDs; no brightness measurement for this exact set is established here.
- HDR: Best Buy lists HDR10 and HDR10+. Samsung TVs generally omit Dolby Vision, so viewers with Dolby Vision streaming libraries or UHD Blu-ray collections should compare an LG OLED or another model that explicitly supports that format. Confirm the exact supported formats on any listing before purchase.
- Smart features: Tizen, Alexa, SmartThings, and Google Home compatibility are listed. If you prefer Google TV, Roku, or a dedicated streaming device, the built-in interface may matter less—but it is still worth considering for everyday use.
- Accessories: Best Buy’s specification record lists a stand, SolarCell TM2360E remote, power cable, and user manual. For an open-box or clearance unit, verify that each item is actually included.
- Audio: Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Lite are support/features, not a guarantee of room-filling bass or convincing surround sound. For a large room or home theater, plan on a soundbar or AV receiver if TV speakers will not meet your needs.
Gaming: verify the exact model, not the family name
Do not buy on the assumption that every Samsung OLED has the same gaming specification. Refresh rate, HDMI bandwidth, variable refresh rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and supported PC resolutions should be confirmed for the exact 77-inch S84D listing. Contemporary coverage of other Samsung OLED models cannot establish the S84D’s specifications. If gaming features are a deciding factor, check the model-specific product sheet and console or PC requirements before checkout.

Who should consider it—and who should pass
It makes the most sense for movie and streaming viewers who want OLED blacks on a large screen, prefer Samsung’s Tizen ecosystem, and can find a new unit at a competitive price with ordinary return and warranty terms. It may also suit a dedicated, controllable-light home theater better than a bright family room.
Look elsewhere if the room gets strong daylight or you watch sports with lights on: a Mini-LED LCD may be a better fit for sustained brightness and avoids OLED-specific burn-in concerns, though it will not offer the same pixel-level black control. Also skip it if Dolby Vision is essential, you specifically want a current-generation TV, or you cannot verify the condition and protections of the unit on offer.

OLED burn-in is a risk to manage, not an inevitable outcome. Avoid leaving static channel logos, news tickers, game HUDs, or a computer desktop on screen for long stretches; vary content and use the TV’s pixel-care or screen-maintenance functions. Warranty treatment varies, so read the written terms for the particular seller, manufacturer, and any protection plan. Do not assume burn-in is covered.

The historical LG B4 deal coverage placed its 77-inch model around $1,799, while Samsung’s 2024 announcement provides context for the S85D lineup. Neither establishes what those models cost or whether they are in stock today.
Before buying a discontinued or clearance S84D
- Match the model number. Confirm it is the 77-inch S84D, such as QN77S84DAEXZA or QN77S84DBEXZA—not an S85D, S90D, or a different screen size.
- Read the condition label. Distinguish new from open-box, refurbished, display, or clearance stock. Ask about missing accessories and, if available, display use or panel hours.
- Confirm seller and inventory. Check whether the retailer itself or a marketplace seller is responsible, and verify shipping or pickup to your ZIP code at checkout.
- Read the return and warranty terms. Check the return deadline, panel-damage and dead-pixel procedures, and written burn-in coverage. Do not infer coverage from a salesperson’s verbal assurance.
- Calculate the real total. Include tax, delivery, installation, mounting, and any protection plan. Treat financing payments separately from the total price, and check whether a price depends on membership or a financing offer.
- Check the box and fit. Confirm the stand, remote, and power cable are included, and measure the TV’s route into the room as well as the final placement.
Verdict
The S84D was a tempting large-screen OLED at $1,799 if sold new with a solid return policy, but the $3,299 figure was a comparison price, not proof of its usual selling price—and a documented historical promotion reached about $1,599.99. The available Best Buy records show the product unavailable, including the later clearance listing. Do not buy on the strength of the old headline: consider the S84D only if you find a verifiably new or clearly disclosed unit with acceptable warranty and return terms, and compare its checkout price with current OLED and Mini-LED options.
