Samsung raised Galaxy S26 prices again on October 1, 2026. The reported U.S. starting prices are now $999 for the Galaxy S26, $1,199 for the S26+, and $1,399 for the S26 Ultra; the S26 FE remains $699. The main reason cited by Reuters and Korean business outlets is a surge in memory-chip costs, as AI data-center demand tightens supply. Samsung has also acknowledged elevated component-cost pressure in its mobile business.
How much did Galaxy S26 prices increase?
The October 1 changes affect U.S. and South Korean prices, but the figures are region-specific. Samsung’s U.S. reported starting tiers rose by about $100; Korean MSRP increases are quoted in won and differ for the 1TB Ultra.
| Model and storage | United States price reported October 1, 2026 | South Korea MSRP change |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26, 256GB | $999 starting price; $100 increase | 1,254,000 to 1,403,600 won; up 149,600 won |
| Galaxy S26, 512GB | $1,199; up $100 | Increase of 149,600 won, per Reuters’ report on most models |
| Galaxy S26+, 256GB | $1,199 starting price; $100 increase | 1,452,000 to 1,601,600 won; up 149,600 won |
| Galaxy S26+, 512GB | $1,399; up $100 | Increase of 149,600 won, per Reuters’ report on most models |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 256GB | $1,399 starting price; $100 increase | 1,797,400 to 1,947,000 won; up 149,600 won |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 512GB | $1,599; up $100 | Increase of 149,600 won, per Reuters’ report on most models |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 1TB | $1,999; increase not stated in the cited U.S. price report | 2,545,400 to 2,821,500 won; up 276,100 won |
| Galaxy S26 FE | $699 starting price; unchanged | not stated |
Samsung announced the S26 series for availability from March 11, 2026. The October adjustment is therefore a later price step, not simply the initial launch price. In Korea, Reuters reported the 149,600-won increase for the base model and said most other models received the same increase, with the 1TB Ultra as the exception. Reuters’ October 1 report and Seoul Economic Daily’s price breakdown describe the changes.
Why did Samsung raise Galaxy S26 prices?
The central explanation in the October reporting is more expensive memory. AI data centers use large amounts of high-bandwidth memory, tightening overall memory supply and pushing up prices for DRAM used in phones. Seoul Economic Daily, citing DRAMeXchange, reported average DRAM prices at $26 at the end of September 2026, twice the $13 level in March. It also cited Counterpoint Research’s estimate that memory’s share of premium-phone production costs rose from 27% to 43%—a 16-percentage-point increase. These are reported market estimates, not Samsung’s disclosed bill of materials for the S26. Seoul Economic Daily’s report

Samsung’s own Q2 2026 results provide a separate confirmation of pressure, though not a model-specific explanation for the new retail prices: its Memory business recorded an all-time high in quarterly revenue and operating profit, while its mobile business cited elevated component costs across the industry. Samsung’s Q2 2026 results
Before the S26 launch, Yonhap also linked AI-driven memory inflation to a likely price adjustment, noting that Samsung had kept main Galaxy prices steady since 2023. That history helps explain why higher input costs translated into a visible retail change rather than being absorbed indefinitely. Yonhap’s pre-launch coverage

What does the higher price buy?
The price increase does not change the value calculation for every buyer in the same way. Samsung advertises up to a 19% CPU-performance increase for the S26 series, seven generations of OS upgrades, and seven years of security updates. Those are relevant benefits for people who keep a phone for years, but they do not establish that every app, task, or model will be 19% faster. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 launch page
- Storage: Compare the cost of the capacity you will actually use. The listed U.S. tiers jump from $999 for the base S26 to $1,199 for its 512GB version, while the Ultra reaches $1,999 for 1TB.
- Performance, cameras, and AI features: Decide whether the S26’s new capabilities matter for your use. The available price reporting does not quantify the practical camera or AI benefit for an individual buyer.
- Long-term support: Seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates can make a longer ownership period more viable; check the exact software eligibility and timing for the model and market you are buying.
- Net cost: A trade-in, carrier offer, or financing plan can alter what you pay, but offers and eligibility vary by country and change over time. Compare total payments and any required plan, rather than relying on a monthly figure alone.
- Protection and accessories: Include a compatible case, screen protector, charger if needed, and any protection plan in your budget. Samsung identifies Care+ as its official accidental-damage protection service in the UK; coverage and terms depend on market.
Should you buy now or wait for a deal?
Buy now if your current phone needs replacing and the S26’s features, storage, and support justify its current local price after trade-in or carrier discounts. If your phone still works, waiting can be reasonable: the October figures are reported prices, while future discounts, dates, and regional availability are not established here.

Before committing, compare the same storage capacity across retailers and carriers, then calculate the full amount due over the payment term. Check whether a trade-in credit is conditional, whether a carrier plan is required, and what warranty or protection applies in your country. Samsung’s UK newsroom describes 0% financing and upgrade offers for that market, but those terms should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. Samsung UK’s S26 announcement
