Samsung’s One UI 7.0 beta was a preview of its Android 15-based software, introducing features such as the Now Bar, refreshed interface, and expanded Galaxy AI tools. The beta is over: Samsung began the stable One UI 7 rollout in April 2025, and its support documentation now describes One UI 8 as the latest version. One UI 7’s features and availability vary by Galaxy model, region, carrier, language, and account requirements.

One UI 7 beta status and release timeline

One UI 7 was Samsung’s Android 15 interface update. Its opt-in beta let eligible Galaxy owners test the interface and features before the stable release; beta software could contain bugs, missing functions, and unexpected behavior, and Samsung warned participants to use it at their own risk. Samsung’s beta program documentation explains its eligibility, risks, backup, and exit procedures.

  • December 5, 2024: Samsung opened the beta to Galaxy S24 devices in Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Samsung’s announcement described the initial launch and features.
  • Later beta expansion: Samsung added the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 in India, Korea, the U.K., and the U.S., and announced further testing for Galaxy S23 devices and Galaxy Tab S10 models. The expansion announcement gives those details.
  • April 7, 2025: Samsung announced the start of the stable rollout. The U.S. rollout began April 10 for the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, and Z Flip6; release timing varied by carrier and region. Samsung’s rollout notice covers timing and feature qualifications.

The beta is a historical program, not a current enrollment option. Its features are useful as a preview of One UI 7, but beta availability never meant that every preview feature would reach every model unchanged.

What changed in One UI 7?

Now Bar: ongoing activities on the lock screen

The Now Bar is a lock-screen area for supported live or ongoing activities, not simply a redesigned notification panel. It can surface music playback, interpreter sessions, voice recordings, stopwatch and timer activity, and health or workout tracking, letting users check relevant information without fully unlocking the phone. Supported devices and activities vary; do not expect an identical Now Bar on every Galaxy that receives One UI 7. Samsung introduced the feature in its beta announcement and describes it in its One UI 7 support guide.

  • TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

Now Brief: personalized daily information

Now Brief presents personalized or periodic information such as weather, calendar events, to-do items, and health-related information. It differs from the Now Bar: the Bar surfaces supported activities in progress, while Brief gathers daily information. Samsung cautions that AI features may be limited or unavailable depending on the device. Samsung’s guide describes the feature and its device-dependent availability.

Home screen, widgets, lock screen, and panels

Samsung refreshed the home-screen presentation, widgets, and lock-screen customization, with a more prominent visual hierarchy. Notifications and Quick settings also have redesigned layouts and access gestures. Long-time One UI users may need to adjust their habits; the exact panel appearance can differ by device and regional build. The initial design description is in Samsung’s beta announcement; panel guidance appears in Samsung’s support guide.

Apps screen and one-handed access

Alphabetically sorted apps can scroll vertically, while a custom-order layout may retain horizontal scrolling. The search bar is positioned lower for easier one-handed use. To switch to alphabetical sorting:

  1. Open the Apps screen.
  2. Tap the three-dot More options menu.
  3. Tap Sort.
  4. Select Alphabetical order.

Samsung documents the behavior in its One UI 7 navigation guide.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
  • Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
  • Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.

Camera layout

Camera modes and controls were reorganized, including simplified Pro and Pro Video controls. Pro Video gained a zoom-speed control for smoother zoom transitions. These changes were part of Samsung’s original beta feature announcement.

Galaxy AI and creative tools

AI Select

AI Select uses selected on-screen content to suggest context-sensitive actions. Samsung’s example is selecting video content to create a GIF. To try it, open the Edge panel, choose AI Select, select or highlight content, and review the offered actions. Available actions and results depend on the device and content; some functions may require a Samsung Account and an internet connection. See Samsung’s stable rollout announcement.

Writing Assist

In supported apps, Writing Assist can translate, rephrase, change tone or formatting, check spelling and grammar, summarize, or turn text into bullet points. Samsung cites apps including Messages, email, Samsung Notes, and social-media apps. Support depends on the app, language, device, and function; some tools require a Samsung Account and internet access. Samsung’s release information specifies a 200–4,000-character range for text in Samsung Notes for one cited Writing Assist function, not a universal limit for every tool. Details are in Samsung’s rollout announcement and its support guide.

Drawing Assist and Sketch to Image

Drawing Assist can generate or transform images from text prompts, existing images, and sketches. Samsung says Sketch to Image output can be resized to up to 12 megapixels and receives a visible AI-generated watermark when saved. Network access and a Samsung Account may be required. Results can be unexpected or inaccurate, and Samsung does not guarantee accuracy or reliability, so treat them as creative output rather than verified imagery. See Samsung’s feature terms and rollout details.

Audio Eraser

Audio Eraser analyzes sound in compatible video files accessible in Gallery and lets users adjust categories including voice, music, noise, crowd, nature, and wind. It is not a guarantee of perfect object-level audio separation or removal of every unwanted sound; supported formats and results vary. Samsung describes its limits in the stable rollout announcement.

Gemini and connected AI assistance

One UI 7 brought Galaxy AI and Gemini capabilities into a more integrated experience, but no single feature set applies to every compatible device. Model capability, language, app support, account sign-in, and network access can all affect what is available. Check Samsung’s One UI 7 support information for the applicable device rather than assuming parity with a newer Galaxy.

Calls and communication features

Samsung added recorded-call transcription and summaries in the Samsung Phone app, expanded Live Translate support, and video-call reactions triggered by hand gestures in supported apps such as Google Meet or WhatsApp. Samsung’s beta announcement cited transcription support for 20 languages; that historical figure is not a guarantee of identical current support in every region, phone, or language. Call recording can be restricted by local law, carrier, or device, and third-party app support is selective. Transcripts, translations, and summaries can contain errors; check them before relying on them. See the beta announcement and Samsung’s feature guide.

Storage share

Storage share can provide wireless access to files on a Galaxy phone or tablet from a compatible PC or TV, including viewing, editing, moving, and copying files without a cable. A Samsung Account is required, and compatible hardware, setup, and permissions matter; it is not unrestricted cross-platform access. Samsung’s guide is at One UI 7 on Samsung Galaxy.

Which Galaxy devices received or were expected to receive One UI 7?

Samsung’s support listings cover device families rather than guaranteeing one global schedule or identical features. The U.S. support page lists the following families as launched with One UI 7 or expected to receive it; regional lists differ, and carrier timing may vary. The Galaxy S25 family, Galaxy Tab S10 FE models, Galaxy A36 5G, Galaxy A26 5G, and Galaxy A16 5G are identified among devices that launched with One UI 7. Check the relevant regional Samsung support page and your phone’s update screen for model-specific status.

  • Galaxy A54 5G, A14 5G, and A53 5G

A model being listed for One UI 7 does not mean it receives every AI feature. Samsung says availability varies by model and may also depend on carrier, network, language, and account. Newer hardware may have capabilities an older supported phone lacks.

How beta enrollment worked—and how to leave

The following steps describe the historical beta process; they do not imply that One UI 7 enrollment remains open. Samsung limited registration by country, compatible model, and software version, and distributed updates gradually.

Historical enrollment steps

  1. Install or open Samsung Members and sign in to a Samsung Account.
  2. Open the One UI Beta Program banner or card, if shown, and register if the device and market are eligible.
  3. After enrollment, open Settings > Software update > Download and install to look for the beta build.

The beta program details are in Samsung’s One UI Beta documentation.

Withdrawal and rollback

  1. In Samsung Members, open Settings > Beta program settings.
  2. Tap Withdraw from beta program.
  3. Use Smart Switch on a computer to roll back to the previous approved release, following Samsung’s supported process.
  4. Restore a backup after rollback.

Rollback resets the device and removes data created during beta testing. If you withdrew before installing beta software, Samsung says you can continue using the official build. If the device becomes unusable during installation, Samsung directs users to a service center. Its beta instructions recommend a Smart Switch backup; see Samsung’s beta documentation and Smart Switch.

Should you have installed the beta?

The beta made sense for developers and enthusiasts with a spare compatible Galaxy device who wanted to test features and tolerate bugs. It was a poor fit for a primary work or emergency phone, or for anyone who could not risk lost data or app disruption. Before beta installation, Samsung advised backing up personal data, updating apps, and using Wi-Fi for the download. Banking, authentication, medical, enterprise, and work-profile apps should be checked after installation; battery life, connectivity, camera behavior, performance, and app compatibility could be affected. Samsung’s warnings and backup guidance are in its beta documentation.

Common One UI 7 availability problems

  • No beta banner in Samsung Members: The model or market may not have been eligible, registration may have closed or filled, or the carrier/software build may not have matched requirements.
  • No stable update notification: Rollouts were gradual, and carrier approval can delay carrier-branded models. Check the software-update screen again and confirm the exact model and region; Samsung notes carrier timing differences in its rollout notice.
  • An AI option is missing: Availability can depend on model, language, Samsung Account, internet connection, app version, and region.
  • Now Bar or Now Brief is absent: That does not by itself mean installation failed; support can be model- or build-limited.
  • An app fails on beta software: The app may not support beta builds. Contact its provider or return to stable software using Samsung’s documented process; do not assume a banking or enterprise app is beta-compatible.
