Samsung’s One UI 2.5 rollout is complete and historical, not still in progress. As of August 18, 2026, checking for it will not trigger a new release. One UI 2.5 arrived on selected Galaxy phones and tablets in 2020–2021, with timing and features varying by model, region and carrier. This tracker records the reported coverage and the confirmed rollout milestones.
What One UI 2.5 was
One UI 2.5 was Samsung’s Android 10-based interface update. It debuted with the Galaxy Note20 series in August 2020, following One UI 2.0 and 2.1. It added and refined features rather than introducing a new Android generation; One UI 3.0 and 3.1 followed it. Android Authority’s overview provides a retrospective feature and device summary.
Samsung described the update as a gradual release and cautioned that supported features and timing could differ by device and market. A model appearing on a broad reported list therefore does not establish that every carrier or regional variant received the same build. See Samsung’s rollout announcement.
Reported device coverage
This is a retrospective list of device families reported to receive One UI 2.5 in at least some markets—not a guarantee of worldwide availability for every variant. The broad coverage list is based on Android Authority’s reporting; Samsung’s own announcement identifies a narrower set of families and likewise qualifies availability. Exact first-release dates and builds are not established here for every model, so they are not inferred.

Samsung’s separate three-generations-of-Android announcement concerns selected-device OS support and is not a complete One UI 2.5 eligibility list. Do not use that policy alone to decide whether a specific phone received this update.
Rollout timeline
- August 5, 2020: Samsung introduced the Note20 family, which launched with One UI 2.5. Samsung’s announcement.
- August 21, 2020: Samsung said the S20 rollout was beginning, with wider distribution to follow gradually. Its detailed announcement was published August 24. Samsung’s update notice.
- Later in 2020 and afterward: Other flagship families, including Note10, S10, Z Flip and Fold, followed on schedules that differed by market and variant. Older S9 and Note9 devices and selected A-, M-series phones and tablets were reported later in some markets.
- October 2020 example: T-Mobile US released the update for its S9, S9+ and Note9 variants with the October security patch and the builds listed in the table. That evidence applies to those T-Mobile models, not to every S9 or Note9.
What changed in One UI 2.5?
The features below describe capabilities associated with the release, not a promise that every eligible device received each one. Samsung explicitly said feature support could vary by model.

Wireless DeX
Compatible phones could connect to a television for DeX without a USB cable, and the phone could serve as a touchpad. Samsung recommended Samsung Smart TVs from 2019 or later for the best experience; other TVs needed compatible screen-mirroring support. Samsung’s feature announcement.

Pro Video controls
On supported hardware, Pro Video gained or expanded controls such as 8K recording at 24 frames per second, a 21:9 aspect ratio, more resolution and frame-rate choices, and microphone direction options—including front, rear or omnidirectional capture. Some supported Galaxy Buds could be used as a microphone. These are model-dependent camera and accessory features; older phones did not necessarily receive them.

Samsung Notes
Notes improvements included Audio Bookmark synchronization with recordings, PDF import and annotation, cross-device synchronization, additional templates and backgrounds, and handwritten annotations in typed documents. Availability depended on the device and software build.
Wi-Fi and keyboard
Wi-Fi screens could show nearby network quality labels such as “Very fast,” “Fast,” “Normal” and “Slow.” The update also enabled password sharing with nearby Galaxy contacts already connected to a network. Samsung Keyboard gained a YouTube search shortcut and related video-search and sharing conveniences; layout refinements were also reported on some devices.

Messages, emergency sharing and gestures
Some builds added customizable message categories and SOS location-sharing messages. The exact behavior and timing could depend on device and carrier software, so there is no universal SOS interval to apply across all variants. One UI 2.5 also enabled Android 10 full-screen navigation gestures with some third-party launchers, including Nova Launcher and Action Launcher.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update is offered, follow the prompts. Keep the device charged and connected to Wi-Fi, and restart if prompted.
Labels can vary slightly by language and software version. To identify the variant, check Settings → About phone or About tablet and note the model number. On carrier-branded devices, the carrier name and original sales market are also relevant.

Because One UI 2.5 is a historical release, a current check is useful only to see whether the device already has a pending update or whether its installed software reflects a particular firmware path. It will not restart Samsung’s old rollout.
If One UI 2.5 never appeared
- Verify the exact model number. Similar retail names can refer to different 4G/5G, regional or carrier variants.
- Identify the software’s sales region and carrier. An imported Galaxy generally follows its original regional firmware path, not necessarily the country where it is now used. Carrier certification could also delay a release.
- Restart and check again. Open Settings → Software update → Download and install. Install any offered updates in sequence.
- Ask the carrier for carrier-branded models. A general eligibility list cannot confirm the status of a particular carrier build.
- Use Samsung support for model-specific help. Give support the model number and current software/build information.
- Avoid cross-flashing firmware. Firmware for a different model, region or carrier can cause serious problems. A missing OTA notification alone is not a reason to install an unofficial or mismatched package.
A device’s absence of an OTA notification does not, by itself, prove it was skipped: releases were staged. Conversely, seeing a model in a broad reported list does not prove that every variant received the update.

Why the feature list or firmware may not match
- Carrier and region: Carrier approval and regional release schedules differed.
- Hardware variant: 4G and 5G editions, and Snapdragon and Exynos variants, could have distinct builds and timing.
- Device capability: Camera, DeX and accessory features depended on hardware as well as software.
- Installed software: An update package could differ in size and contents depending on the firmware already installed. Some historical reports put a package near 1GB, but that is not a universal size or storage requirement.
