The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is already available: Samsung announced it on July 9, 2025, and released it in the U.S. and other launch markets on July 25, 2025. It starts at $1,999.99 in the U.S. at launch. The Fold7 is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest Fold yet, with a wider cover display, an 8-inch inner screen, a 200MP main camera, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Its biggest drawbacks are equally important: the battery remains 4,400mAh, wired charging is still 25W, and Samsung removed S Pen support.
That makes the Fold7 a major design and camera refinement—not a complete upgrade in every category. It is best for buyers who will regularly use the large screen for multitasking, reading, editing, gaming, or productivity.

Release date, availability, and price
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7 on July 9, 2025, opened U.S. preorders the same day, and began general availability on July 25, 2025. Global availability also began July 25, initially across 49 markets before expanding to more than 110 markets.

Those dates matter because the Fold7 is not an upcoming 2026 phone or a rumor. Stock, carrier availability, trade-in credits, and discounts can change independently of the original launch schedule, so the launch price should not be mistaken for the current street price.
In the U.S., Samsung’s launch pricing began at $1,999.99 for 256GB. The 512GB model was also offered, while the 1TB version included 16GB of memory. Samsung’s direct product page is the appropriate place to check current pricing, colors, trade-in values, and availability for a particular purchase date.
Design: thinner and lighter, but still a large phone
The Fold7’s most noticeable hardware improvement is its shape. Folded, it measures 72.8 × 158.4 × 8.9mm; unfolded, it measures 143.2 × 158.4 × 4.2mm and weighs 215g. Samsung calls it the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date.

Samsung’s thickness measurements have caveats: the unfolded figure excludes part of the main-screen frame, while the folded measurement is taken from the top to bottom of the device’s glass surfaces. Comparisons with other phones should therefore use the same measurement method.
The redesigned Armor FlexHinge and Armor Aluminum frame support the slimmer profile. The cover uses Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, while the rear uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Available U.S. colors are Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, and Jetblack, with Mint exclusive to Samsung.com. Color and storage availability can vary by market and carrier.
What IP48 does—and does not—mean
IP48 is useful protection, but it is not the same as being waterproof or fully dustproof. Samsung says the phone resists solid particles larger than 1mm and was tested for immersion in up to five feet of fresh water for 30 minutes. That does not guarantee protection from sand, fine dust, grit, sharp particles, hinge contamination, or every kind of liquid exposure. A foldable inner display and hinge remain more specialized components than those in a conventional slab phone.

Displays: a more usable cover screen and a larger inner panel
The cover display is now a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2,520 × 1,080 resolution, 422ppi, and an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Its 21:9 ratio is wider than earlier Fold cover screens, making typing, reading, and ordinary one-screen phone use less cramped.
Opening the phone reveals an 8-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 2,184 × 1,968 resolution, 368ppi, and adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Samsung says it is 11% larger than the previous generation.
The inner screen is the reason to buy a Fold: split-screen apps, documents, spreadsheets, editing tools, games, and video benefit from the extra space. The trade-offs are a visible foldable crease, added bulk when carrying the phone, and inconsistent app layouts when developers have not optimized an app for a large or flexible display.
Performance and software
The Galaxy Z Fold7 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Samsung claims a 38% CPU improvement, 26% smoother graphics performance, and a 41% faster NPU compared with the Galaxy Z Fold6. These are Samsung’s comparative figures, not independent benchmark results, and they should not be interpreted as every application becoming 38% faster.
In practical terms, the processor provides more headroom for multi-window use, demanding games, local AI processing, photo editing, and video workflows. Actual performance depends on the app, workload, thermals, software, and network conditions.

Features include multi-window multitasking, moving AI-generated content between windows, fold-optimized Gemini Live, Circle to Search improvements, Photo Assist, Generative Edit, and a Studio video editor designed for the larger display. AI tools may require a Samsung or Google account, internet access, compatible languages, and particular software versions. Availability and results can vary by country, carrier, device, and update. AI-generated or edited content should not be assumed to be accurate or complete. Samsung’s temporary Google AI Pro and cloud-storage promotions also have eligibility and redemption terms; they should be checked at purchase rather than treated as permanent phone features.
Camera system: the 200MP upgrade needs context
The rear camera system consists of:
- 200MP wide: f/1.7, autofocus, and optical image stabilization.
- 12MP ultrawide: f/2.2 with a 120-degree field of view.
- 10MP telephoto: optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom.
There is also a 10MP cover-screen selfie camera and a 10MP main-screen camera. Samsung advertises 2x “optical quality” zoom from the 200MP sensor, 3x optical zoom from the telephoto camera, and up to 30x Space Zoom. Beyond 3x, the result combines digital zoom and processing, so detail and clarity can deteriorate.
The 200MP sensor can provide more cropping flexibility and detail in good light. It does not automatically guarantee better night photos, motion capture, skin tones, ultrawide images, telephoto results, or video stabilization than every competing phone. Camera output still depends on sensor behavior, Samsung’s image processing, lighting, movement, and the shooting mode.
Flex Mode remains useful for hands-free shooting and unusual camera angles. Samsung also promotes Gemini Live camera and screen sharing, Generative Edit, and automatic background-subject removal. These are software features whose availability and output quality can vary.
Battery life and charging
The Fold7 has a 4,400mAh typical dual battery—the same nominal capacity as the Galaxy Z Fold6. Samsung advertises up to 24 hours of video playback under its stated test conditions.
Independent testing from Tom’s Guide recorded 10 hours and 55 minutes in its 5G web-browsing test and 54% charge after 30 minutes using the phone’s 25W wired charging. Those are measurements from a specific test method, not guarantees for every user.

The unchanged battery is one of the Fold7’s central compromises. The newer processor and software may improve efficiency, but the larger displays and demanding workloads can consume substantial power. Charging is also slower than on some competing foldables. Buyers prioritizing endurance or rapid top-ups should compare alternatives carefully instead of assuming that a thinner phone has better battery life.
Samsung’s U.S. box-content list includes the phone, a USB-C data cable, and a SIM-ejection pin. It does not list a wall charger, so buyers may need an existing compatible USB-C charger or a separate one.
The S Pen warning for Fold owners
The Galaxy Z Fold7 does not support the S Pen. Samsung confirms this in its official FAQ, and buying a separate S Pen does not add compatibility.
This is a meaningful regression for Fold6 owners who use handwriting, sketching, annotation, or stylus-based editing. The Fold7 may be better for typing, reading, multitasking, and photography, but users who depend on pen input should consider an S Pen-compatible previous-generation Fold or a Galaxy Tab instead.

The upgrade case is strongest if you want the slimmer body, wider cover screen, 200MP camera, newer processor, and newer software. It is much weaker if your Fold6 already meets your needs, you depend on the S Pen, or you can buy a heavily discounted Fold6. The Fold7 is not better in every respect.

Storage: which model should you buy?
- 256GB: Suitable for streaming-focused users who take moderate numbers of photos and do not keep large offline media libraries.
- 512GB: The best balance for frequent photography, games, downloaded media, and several years of use.
- 1TB with 16GB memory: Best for heavy video recording, large games, local media, and intensive multitasking. It is poor value if most content is streamed.
Storage and memory combinations can vary by country and sales channel, so confirm the exact configuration before ordering.

Ownership costs and protection
A nearly $2,000 foldable can cost more than its headline price once you add a case, charger, trade-in shortfall, or accidental-damage protection. Samsung offers cases and screen-film accessories through its official accessories store.
Samsung Care+ plans may cover accidental damage, repairs, replacement, and—in eligible plans—theft and loss. Premiums, deductibles, repair limits, eligibility, and claim terms depend on the country, date, and plan. Check the terms before purchase; IP48 protection does not make accidental damage free or guaranteed.
Trade-in discounts can substantially change the effective price, but eligible devices and credit values are date-specific. State the exact phone, condition, and offer terms when comparing a trade-in price with the $1,999.99 launch MSRP.

Buy it if:
- You want one device that works as both a phone and a small tablet.
- You regularly use split-screen apps, documents, spreadsheets, editing tools, or large games.
- You value Samsung’s One UI multitasking, Galaxy AI, and DeX.
- You want the thinnest and lightest Samsung Fold design and a higher-resolution main camera.
- You accept paying a premium for flexibility rather than conventional-phone value.
Think twice if:
- You need S Pen support.
- You prioritize long battery life or very fast charging.
- You mainly use one app at a time and rarely need to unfold the phone.
- You work around sand, grit, construction dust, or other harsh environments.
- You want a lightweight conventional phone; 215g is lighter than earlier Folds but still heavy beside many slab phones.
- You are unwilling to budget for a case or accidental-damage coverage.
Verdict
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the most refined Samsung Fold so far for people who value a thinner body, a more usable cover screen, a large multitasking display, and a stronger main camera. It is not a complete hardware upgrade: the 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging remain, and S Pen support is gone.
Choose it when the foldable format will change how you work or consume content. Choose a conventional flagship for better value and simpler durability, or a discounted Fold6 if you want Samsung’s foldable experience with S Pen support at a lower price.
