Short answer: the Galaxy Z Flip6 does not officially provide Samsung’s full phone-to-external-display DeX experience. Samsung documents screen mirroring for the Flip6, and Samsung support discussions say the complete DeX desktop is not supported on this model. A practical, unofficial alternative is scrcpy with its virtual-display feature, which can create a separate Android workspace on a Windows, macOS or Linux computer. It can feel DeX-like, but it is not Samsung DeX.
What the Galaxy Z Flip6 officially supports
Samsung DeX is a desktop interface with a taskbar, resizable windows, external-display support and keyboard-and-mouse control. Screen mirroring is different: it duplicates the phone’s normal interface on another display rather than creating an independent desktop.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 user guide documents mirroring the phone to a TV. It does not document wired or wireless phone DeX for the Flip6. A Samsung Community support discussion likewise states that the full DeX experience is not officially supported.

That does not mean the Flip6 can never send an image to another screen. It means Samsung has not established the phone as a supported DeX device in the same way as compatible Galaxy S-series and Z Fold models.

What happens when you connect USB-C to HDMI?
A cable or adapter only transports a display signal; it cannot add Samsung software that is disabled for a model. Depending on the phone’s firmware, adapter chipset, cable and display, you may see one of these results:
- The normal phone screen appears on the monitor.
- The monitor stays blank because the video mode or adapter is incompatible.
- The phone charges but sends no video.
- Audio remains on the phone or switches to the display.
- A keyboard or mouse controls the mirrored phone in limited ways, without creating a DeX workspace.
Do not treat a successful HDMI connection as proof that DeX is available. It is normally screen output or mirroring, not Samsung’s desktop environment.
Is wireless DeX available?
Samsung’s general DeX documentation and DeX flyer describe wireless DeX for compatible Galaxy devices and Miracast-capable displays, generally with both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Those broad pages do not clearly establish official Z Flip6 compatibility.
- Official status: Samsung’s Flip6 documentation does not clearly promise phone DeX.
- User reports: Reports involving newer One UI builds, Modes and Routines or desktop-display features are anecdotal and can vary by country, firmware and exact model.
- Screen casting: Smart View or Miracast mirroring is separate from DeX and is the more defensible expectation.
Consider any claimed wireless-DeX method on a Flip6 experimental unless it has been reproduced on your exact Android version, One UI build and region.
The practical workaround: scrcpy virtual display
scrcpy is a free, open-source computer-side tool for mirroring and controlling Android. The project supports Windows, macOS and Linux, requires USB debugging rather than root access, and does not require installing an Android app. Its virtual-display mode creates a separate Android display that scrcpy shows in a computer window. The repository lists version 4.0 as released on May 12, 2026.

The result may provide separate app windows, desktop-style input and an independent phone screen, depending on the Flip6’s software. It is best described as an unofficial virtual-display or DeX-like workaround. The scrcpy project’s issue discussion notes that a virtual display can resemble DeX while the phone’s DeX indicator is not active.
What you need
- Galaxy Z Flip6 and a USB data cable.
- Windows, macOS or Linux computer.
- USB debugging enabled on the phone.
- scrcpy downloaded from the official Genymobile repository; use the installation method for your operating system and Android platform-tools/ADB where required.
- Permission to approve the computer’s RSA debugging prompt.
scrcpy supports Android 5.0/API 21 and newer, but virtual-display behavior and input depend on Android and Samsung software. Never download random “scrcpy APK” files: the official project is primarily a computer tool and does not require an app installed on the phone.
Set up the Flip6 and launch the virtual desktop
- On the phone, open Settings → About phone → Software information.
- Tap Build number repeatedly until Developer options are enabled.
- Return to Settings, open Developer options, and enable USB debugging. If labels differ, search Settings for “USB debugging.”
- Install scrcpy from the official repository and connect the phone with a data-capable USB cable.
- Accept the RSA authorization prompt on the Flip6.
- Open a terminal or command prompt and run:
scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080This creates a separate 1920×1080 virtual display. It is destroyed when scrcpy exits unless you use the documented preservation option.

If the window is empty, explicitly start an app:
scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080 --start-app=com.android.settingsThe documentation explains that a virtual display can produce no video frame when it has no launcher or application content. Some apps may refuse resizing, remain phone-oriented, render incorrectly or restart when moved between displays.

Test clicking, text entry, copy and paste, Back/Home/app-switch shortcuts, pointer behavior, rotation and full-screen handling. Audio routing, latency and battery use depend on the computer, cable, apps and firmware; no DeX-equivalent behavior is guaranteed. Protected video, banking software and secure corporate apps may block capture or show a black screen. A virtual display, screen capture and sustained USB use can also increase heat and battery drain.

Even with --no-vd-destroy-content, Android may restart apps during display changes. The setup does not guarantee Samsung’s DeX taskbar, DeX settings, DeX-specific compatibility, official support or identical full-screen behavior.
Troubleshooting
“Device unauthorized”
- Look for the USB-debugging prompt on the phone and approve it.
- Unplug and reconnect the cable.
- In Developer options, revoke USB-debugging authorizations and authorize the computer again.
- Confirm the cable carries data, not only power.
“No device found”
- Install the appropriate Windows USB driver if needed.
- Try another USB port and a different USB-C data cable.
- Check that USB mode is not restricted to charging.
- Restart ADB or reconnect the phone.
Blank virtual-display window
Start an app explicitly with scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080 --start-app=com.android.settings. A virtual display without a launcher or app can legitimately remain blank.
Poor performance
Use USB rather than Wi-Fi, close unnecessary computer programs and lower the resolution:
scrcpy --new-display=1280x720The official project recommends reducing resolution to improve performance. A shorter quality cable and wired keyboard or mouse can also reduce connection problems.

Apps close when scrcpy exits
Try scrcpy --new-display --no-vd-destroy-content, while recognizing that Android application lifecycle rules can still restart graphics-heavy or display-sensitive apps.
Security and power
USB debugging gives an authorized computer control access. Revoke authorizations afterward if the computer is shared or untrusted. For long sessions, use a powered hub or charging-capable setup, but inexpensive hubs can create their own video, charging or input incompatibilities.
Which option should you choose?
Choose scrcpy when
- You already own a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.
- You want a free desktop-like Android workspace.
- You are comfortable with Developer options, USB debugging and occasional ADB troubleshooting.
- You accept unofficial behavior and app-compatibility limits.
Choose ordinary mirroring when
Your goal is presenting photos, watching compatible video or showing the phone screen. The Flip6 guide’s documented TV-mirroring route is simpler and avoids developer tools.
Use a laptop instead when
You need dependable desktop applications, browser extensions, file management, office software or professional peripherals. scrcpy does not turn Android apps into a full Windows, macOS or Linux environment.
Buy a different Galaxy phone when
Official wired or wireless DeX is a deciding feature. Check the exact model against Samsung’s current DeX device list and DeX compatibility information; do not assume every premium Galaxy phone supports it.
Bottom line
The Galaxy Z Flip6 supports screen mirroring, but Samsung does not officially document the full phone DeX experience for it. A USB-C adapter cannot unlock unsupported software. For technically comfortable users, scrcpy’s virtual display is the closest practical escape: a free, computer-based Android desktop that can feel DeX-like without being Samsung DeX. Everyone else should use mirroring for simple display sharing or choose a Galaxy model with confirmed DeX support.
