The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is not currently available for preorder in the U.S. Samsung’s preorder window ran from January 17 through January 30, 2024, and general sales began January 31, 2024. The launch price started at $1,299.99 for 256GB. Today, buyers should look at Samsung Certified Re-Newed, retailer-refurbished, used unlocked, carrier, or remaining new-stock listings instead.
Original U.S. preorder dates and launch pricing
Samsung opened U.S. preorders on January 17, 2024, with the published preorder period ending January 30, or earlier if supplies ran out. General availability began January 31, 2024. The launch announcement is archived in Samsung’s Newsroom.

These are historical launch prices, not a statement of what a refurbished, used, carrier, or remaining new unit should cost in 2026.
What the preorder deal included
Storage upgrade
The central U.S. Samsung.com promotion was a storage upgrade. During the qualifying preorder period, selected 512GB and 1TB Galaxy S24 Ultra configurations could be purchased for the price of the next lower storage tier. The offer applied through Samsung.com or the Shop Samsung app under the published terms and was limited by dates and availability. See the archived offer terms.

This made the 512GB model particularly attractive: it provided twice the base storage without paying the normal full tier difference. The promotion has ended and should not be treated as a current coupon.
Other launch incentives
Samsung, carriers, and retailers also advertised combinations of trade-in credits, Samsung.com-exclusive colors, Samsung Credit, accessory bundles, financing, or carrier bill credits. Those were separate promotions. A maximum trade-in figure was never an unconditional reduction in the phone’s price: it depended on the traded device, condition, channel, plan, and promotion dates.
Offers in India, Malaysia, the U.K., and other markets had different prices and terms. A U.S. shopper should rely on U.S. terms rather than a search result from another country.

Where the S24 Ultra can be bought now
Current listings are sales inventory, not a new S24 Ultra preorder campaign. Samsung’s present reservation pages concern newer Galaxy products; an S24 Ultra appearing in a trade-in selector does not mean the phone is being reserved or preordered.

Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed S24 Ultra listing is the most direct official route. Best Buy’s refurbished search has shown multiple capacities, but search-page “pre-order” wording can be stale and is not proof of a live preorder.
Which storage size makes sense?
- 256GB: Suitable for streaming, cloud storage, ordinary photography, and users who do not keep large offline video or game libraries.
- 512GB: The sensible long-term choice for frequent photos, 4K/8K video, games, and several years of ownership—especially when the price premium is small.
- 1TB: Best for extensive offline media, heavy video capture, large game collections, or buyers who want maximum storage headroom. It is difficult to justify at a large premium for typical use.
Features that still matter
The S24 Ultra launched with a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate, a 5,000mAh typical battery, integrated S Pen, titanium frame, IP68 water and dust resistance, Android 14, One UI 6.1, and the S24 series’ Galaxy AI features. IP68 is not a promise that the phone is waterproof in every situation. Samsung notes that S Pen water and dust resistance can diminish through normal wear. A used, dropped, or repaired phone may no longer retain its original sealing.

Software support
Samsung announced up to seven years of operating-system and security support for the Galaxy S24 series. That is a support policy, not a guarantee that every future feature will work identically on every model, language, account, or region. Carrier and unlocked variants can receive updates at different times. Samsung’s firmware pages already show Android 16 for at least some S24 Ultra model variants, such as SM-S928B; that does not establish identical availability for every U.S. model.
Inspection checklist for refurbished or used units
- Confirm the exact model number. Make sure it is a U.S. model or that its bands, SIM/eSIM behavior, warranty, and regional features suit you.
- Verify unlocked status. Do not rely only on a marketplace title; confirm with the seller and, where possible, the carrier.
- Check the IMEI. Ensure it is not lost, stolen, blocked, or attached to an unpaid account.
- Confirm storage and included S Pen. Photos can be misleading, and a missing or defective pen reduces the phone’s value.
- Inspect the display. Look for burn-in, dead pixels, scratches, green or pink tint, and impact damage.
- Test every camera. Check autofocus, all zoom levels, stabilization, flash, and the front camera.
- Ask about battery health. “Refurbished” does not automatically mean a new battery.
- Read warranty and returns. Identify whether Samsung, the retailer, or a marketplace seller handles a claim.
- Protect your trade-in. Photograph the device, back up data, remove accounts, factory-reset it, and retain shipping and tracking evidence.
Carrier credits: calculate the commitment
A carrier advertisement saying “free” generally means the phone’s cost is reimbursed through monthly bill credits. Leaving the carrier, changing to an ineligible plan, paying off the device, or upgrading early can stop future credits. Compare the total required service cost—not just the advertised monthly device payment—with an unlocked purchase.

S24 Ultra or a newer Galaxy?
The S24 Ultra remains compelling when its price is substantially below a newer Ultra model and you specifically want its built-in S Pen, large display, titanium construction, and long remaining support runway. A newer Galaxy is easier to justify when the price gap is small, you prioritize the newest processor and camera processing, or you want the longest possible update horizon.
Do not assume a reservation page for a newer Galaxy is an S24 Ultra preorder. Check the page title, publication date, purchase button, model number, and full terms rather than trusting a search snippet.

The S24 Ultra preorder was a January 2024 event, not a promotion still open in 2026. Treat $1,299.99 (256GB) and $1,419.99 (512GB) as launch benchmarks, not current prices. For a present-day purchase, Samsung Certified Re-Newed is the lower-risk refurbished route; retailer-refurbished stock can offer more capacity choices; and a used marketplace unit is worthwhile only after rigorous checks of model, IMEI, condition, battery, warranty, and return rights. If a newer Ultra costs nearly the same, the newer phone is usually the safer long-term value.
