In April 2025, firmware evidence indicated that Samsung had expanded internal Android 16 and One UI 8.0 testing to the South Korean Galaxy S25 Ultra. It was a sign of active development across Galaxy S25 variants—not a public beta announcement, a release candidate, or confirmation of an update date.
What Samsung was testing
SamMobile reported an Android 16-based One UI 8.0 firmware build, S938NKSU2BYD6, for the South Korean Galaxy S25 Ultra, model SM-S938N. Earlier testing had been spotted on the global Galaxy S25, model SM-S931B. Together, those sightings suggested Samsung was extending its internal test coverage to another regional model. SamMobile’s April 2025 report did not establish that the build was ready for consumers.
SamMobile interpreted the firmware identifier as evidence of an Android 16/One UI 8 development branch. A build string can help identify software under development, but it does not prove that Samsung had finalized the release or set a launch date.

Internal testing is pre-release validation. A build found on Samsung’s update infrastructure may be intended for employees, contractors, carrier partners, or another controlled group. Its presence is not the same as public availability through Samsung Members or an over-the-air update.

- Internal build: evidence that software is being developed or validated.
- Public beta: a program Samsung announces, with eligibility and registration details for participating devices and markets.
- Stable rollout: the consumer release, distributed according to Samsung’s rollout schedule and regional availability.
A server listing or leaked firmware should not be treated as an invitation to install it. Unfinished builds may be unstable, incompatible with a particular model, missing security hardening or certification, and difficult to roll back safely.
Why the early testing drew attention
The April discovery came while Samsung was still dealing with the delayed One UI 7 rollout for older Galaxy devices. That made the apparent early start on Android 16 notable: it suggested Samsung might be moving more quickly on One UI 8 development, but it was not a promise of an accelerated consumer release.

In May 2025, SamMobile reported a newer internal beta build for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, S938BXXU3ZYEA. That later sighting supported the view that the April build was part of an ongoing development cycle rather than a one-off firmware artifact. It still did not establish a public launch date. SamMobile’s May report described the subsequent internal testing.
Which Galaxy S25 models were covered?
The April evidence directly concerned two models: the global Galaxy S25 and the South Korean Galaxy S25 Ultra. The Galaxy S25+ was a reasonable expectation as part of the S25 software family, but the reported sightings did not prove it was in that same test. Nor did they establish coverage for the Galaxy S25 Edge, S25 FE, every carrier variant, or every regional model.

Firmware branches can differ by model, carrier, and region. A Korean Ultra build does not establish U.S. availability, and a global S25 build does not prove carrier compatibility. Samsung later said One UI 8 would begin rolling out with the Galaxy S25 series, but that later announcement should not be read as proof that every S25 variant was included in the April test. Samsung’s official rollout announcement documents the later release.
What early One UI 8 builds showed
Early hands-on examinations reported changes including a revised Quick Share interface with a Receive tab, updated Gallery menus, more wallpaper color options, and changes to Galaxy Buds pairing. These were observations from unfinished firmware, not a final One UI 8 feature list. SamMobile described the early build as buggy and reported that Now Bar live notifications did not work correctly in testing. Its early hands-on report illustrates why internal software should not be judged as a finished consumer update.

Features seen in a leak can change, be restricted by region or hardware, or be removed before release. The April firmware discovery alone did not confirm any particular final feature.

By August 2026, the April 2025 discovery was historical: One UI 8 had moved from internal testing through a public beta to stable release, and Galaxy S25 testing had subsequently moved on to One UI 8.5. The April build was an early clue in that sequence, not a release announcement.
