Roblox Error 106 on Xbox One is commonly reported when a player cannot join a friend, often because the Roblox or Xbox friendship, privacy settings, or join session is not set up correctly. First add and confirm each other as Roblox friends, check Xbox friendship when relevant, then have the Xbox player enter the experience before the other player joins from their Roblox profile.
Roblox’s Xbox support index does not currently list a dedicated Error 106 definition, so treat the friend-relationship explanation as a likely diagnosis—not an official definition. Roblox’s Xbox One Help index and third-party Error 106 coverage provide that distinction.
What Roblox Error 106 usually means
Error 106 typically appears when trying to join a friend or multiplayer session, rather than when opening Roblox itself. Community reports commonly associate it with a friend relationship that is missing or not recognized between Roblox and Xbox. Roblox has not published a clearly labeled official Error 106 article in its Xbox support index, so the code does not have a confirmed single cause.

Use the exact message and when it appears to guide troubleshooting. A message about being unable to join a friend points first to the friendship and session steps below. A sign-in or account-linking message calls for account-linking checks instead.

1. Add the player as a Roblox friend
This is the most targeted, lowest-risk first fix. Roblox notes that full friend management may require using a PC or mobile device, even if you can receive friend requests on Xbox. Use the same Roblox account that is signed in on the console.
- Open Roblox on a phone, tablet, PC, or supported browser and sign in.
- Search for the other player’s exact Roblox username, not just their display name.
- Open the correct profile and select Add Friend.
- Ask the other player to accept the request, then confirm they appear in your Roblox Friends list.
- Fully close and reopen Roblox on Xbox, then try joining again.
See Roblox’s instructions for playing with friends on Xbox. Adding someone on Roblox is not guaranteed to fix every Error 106 case, but it checks the most commonly reported cause.
2. Confirm the Xbox friendship and account
For joining through Xbox’s Friends screen, both players should be signed into the intended Xbox profiles and able to see one another in the Xbox social or Friends interface. If both players use Xbox, try joining through that screen after confirming the Roblox friendship.

Roblox also supports cross-platform play between Xbox and PC, Mac, and mobile. When the other player is on one of those platforms, use the Roblox profile-based join route rather than relying only on Xbox presence. Roblox’s friend-play guidance describes both routes.
3. Join in the recommended order
- The Xbox player launches Roblox and enters the experience first.
- The other player opens the Xbox player’s Roblox profile.
- The other player selects Join Experience.
Roblox specifically recommends that the Xbox user join first for this cross-platform flow. If Join Experience is missing, check that you are Roblox friends, the Xbox player is online and already in the experience, the experience permits the other player’s platform, and Xbox privacy settings allow multiplayer and user-created content.
4. Check Xbox family and privacy settings
For a child account, family restrictions can block multiplayer or access to user-created experiences. The parent or family organizer should review the settings. Roblox’s documented Xbox One path is:

- Sign in with the main account that manages the family group.
- Open All Settings → Account → Family, then choose the child account.
- Open Privacy & Online Safety → Xbox Live privacy → View Details & Customize.
- Under Communication & multiplayer, set You can join multiplayer experiences to Allow.
- Under Experience Content, set You can see and share content to Everybody.
- Back out, save the changes, and restart Roblox.
These are the settings Roblox identifies for multiplayer and user-created content access in its Xbox family-account instructions. Xbox menu names can differ across console software, Microsoft family controls, and the Xbox Family Settings app, so the exact path may vary. Only change a child’s restrictions if the parent or organizer approves.
5. Check account age and linking before unlinking
If the error accompanies a sign-in or linking message—or Roblox says the account is already linked to another Xbox account—treat it as an account issue rather than assuming Error 106 is a friendship problem. Roblox says its Xbox app is intended for ages 10 and up, advises matching Xbox age settings with the Roblox account age, and allows a Roblox account to be linked to only one Xbox Gamer Tag. Check the Roblox age under Settings → Personal and review age or family restrictions through the Microsoft account controls. Do not falsify an age or bypass parental controls. Do not unlink as the first response to a friend-join failure. If you have confirmed a genuine linking problem, verify which Roblox username and Xbox Gamertag are involved and recover account access before disconnecting. Unlinking requires signing in again; do not proceed if you do not know the account password or email.

Unlink from the Xbox app
- Go to the Roblox Home screen and press the Xbox button.
- Open Settings → Account.
- Select UNLINK [YOUR GAMERTAG].
Disconnect from Roblox account settings
- Sign in to Roblox on the web.
- Open Settings → Security.
- Under Xbox, select Disconnect.
Roblox documents both disconnection routes in its Xbox login and account-linking help. If you cannot identify or access the linked account, recover it before making changes; do not create replacement accounts to work around the link.

If the Roblox friend request is accepted but joining still fails, first confirm both players are using the expected Roblox accounts and that Xbox presence is current. Then refresh the console session:
- Leave the Roblox experience.
- Quit Roblox from the Xbox Home screen rather than only switching away from it.
- Restart the Xbox.
- If the friend still appears offline or unavailable, sign out of and back into the Xbox profile.
- Relaunch Roblox, have the Xbox player enter the experience first, and retry the profile-based join.
This is a general session-refresh sequence, not a Roblox-confirmed Error 106 remedy. It will not correct a wrong friend relationship, privacy restriction, or linked account.

7. Check service status and test another experience
Before changing account settings, check the Roblox Status page for Xbox App or Game Join incidents. If either is degraded, wait for service to recover; local account changes are unlikely to help during an outage. The page showed those services as operational on August 18, 2026, but service status changes and that snapshot does not establish their current state.
- Only one friend fails: recheck the Roblox username, both friendship lists, presence, and the join order.
- Every friend or experience fails: investigate family/privacy permissions, account linking, account age, Xbox profile state, and service status.
- You can play solo but not join one experience: that experience may have access, age-rating, private-server, capacity, or developer-side restrictions.
A working status page does not rule out a regional, account-specific, or experience-specific issue. Roblox’s Xbox Store listing identifies Roblox as available for Xbox One and lists cross-platform multiplayer; availability and listing details can change. View the Xbox Store listing.
When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox Support if you cannot identify or access the Roblox account linked to your Gamertag, the account appears linked to the wrong Gamertag, or the error persists with multiple friends and experiences after you have checked the friend lists, family permissions, and account details. Include the exact error wording, when it occurs, the Roblox username, and whether it affects one or all experiences; never send your password.
