Yes, the Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition is a genuine standalone product. Razer announced a one-time global production run of 1,337 individually serialized units, each priced at $1,337 in the United States. The U.S. store listing is currently out of stock, so buyers should distinguish the original retail price from whatever sellers request on the secondary market.
This is primarily a Razer collectible and display piece with modern gaming hardware—not a sensible $1,337 upgrade for most players.
What is the Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition?
The Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition is a modern wireless gaming mouse inspired by Razer’s original Boomslang. It keeps the distinctive translucent, snake-head-inspired silhouette and ambidextrous concept, but replaces the original’s technology with a high-end optical sensor, optical switches, wireless connectivity, RGB lighting and dock-based charging.
Every mouse is uniquely serialized out of 1,337. The package also includes a separate LED collector’s display frame showing an exploded view of the mouse’s internal components. That frame is important to understanding the product: Razer designed this as something to display as well as use.

Razer announced the edition on December 9, 2025, describing it as a one-time release commemorating the company’s 20-year innovation journey. The wording does not mean that the original Boomslang itself reached its 20th anniversary in 2025; Razer dates the original mouse to 1999.
Why are there exactly 1,337 units?
“1337” is gaming-culture leetspeak for “leet,” derived from “elite.” Razer used the number both for the worldwide production run and the U.S. list price, turning the product into a deliberately elaborate gaming in-joke.
Razer also promoted unit #1337 as a special promotional or community-related piece planned for a signature from CEO Min-Liang Tan. That does not mean every unit was signed.

How is it different from the original Boomslang?
This is a reinterpretation rather than a reissue of the original hardware. Razer describes the original Boomslang as the world’s first gaming mouse, although that historical characterization should be treated as Razer’s claim.

The 45,000-DPI sensor, 8,000-Hz polling and 100-million-click rating are manufacturer specifications or claims. They do not automatically make the mouse faster, more comfortable or better value than a conventional flagship model.

The dock is more than a charging accessory. It also serves as the dedicated wireless receiver. Razer says pairing should occur automatically when the dock is connected and the mouse is switched on; the status light changes from blinking green to static green after pairing.

Is it a good gaming mouse?
It has the hardware expected from a premium modern gaming mouse, but its practical design is much less conventional. WIRED’s hands-on review found the shape awkward, criticized the side-button placement and described the body as heavy. The mouse is technically ambidextrous, but symmetrical construction does not guarantee comfortable use for every hand or grip.
It also lacks several conveniences that buyers may expect at this price:
- No Bluetooth connectivity.
- No conventional USB charging.
- No normal wired operating mode, according to the reported review and Razer’s dock-only charging FAQ.
- A large, heavy and unusual shape compared with lightweight esports mice.
- Side buttons that may be difficult to reach or activate comfortably.
Razer says its optical switches avoid double-clicking issues and debounce delay. Those are manufacturer claims, not an absolute guarantee against every future hardware or firmware problem.

For ordinary gaming, a current DeathAdder, Viper, Basilisk or comparable flagship from another major manufacturer is likely to offer a more practical balance of comfort, features and price. The Boomslang’s justification is not proportional performance; it is the combination of historical design, scarcity, serialization and presentation.

Razer initially indicated that the mouse would become available in early 2026. Its U.S. store listing shows a $1,337 price and an out-of-stock status in the latest supplied listing. Independent coverage reported that the limited allocation sold out almost immediately.

The fixed production quantity also does not mean that 1,337 units are currently available for purchase. Retail inventory, promotional units, privately held examples and resale listings are separate things. An availability notification should not be treated as a promise of another production run.
Should you buy one on the secondary market?
Buyers should approach resale listings as collectible purchases, not ordinary mouse upgrades. WIRED observed prices approaching $2,000 shortly after the sellout, but that was an early aftermarket observation and should not be treated as a current market valuation.
Before paying a premium, ask the seller for:
- A photograph of the actual mouse and its serial number, not only stock images.
- The original invoice or order confirmation.
- Confirmation that the Mouse Dock Pro and LED display frame are included.
- Close-up photos of the translucent shell and PU-leather surfaces.
- Details about battery condition, charging and wireless pairing.
- Information about warranty coverage and whether it transfers to a second owner.
A low serial number is not automatically more valuable, and a high serial number is not automatically less desirable. Future appreciation is unknowable; rarity alone does not guarantee an investment return.

- Longtime Razer or Boomslang fans.
- Collectors of numbered gaming hardware.
- Buyers who want a display object with functional internals.
- People comfortable paying for nostalgia, scarcity and presentation.
It is a poor fit for:
- Players seeking the best performance per dollar.
- Competitive users who prioritize a lightweight mouse.
- Anyone who needs Bluetooth or wired fallback.
- Users who prefer modern ergonomic shapes.
- Buyers who simply need a dependable daily-driver mouse.
Bottom line
The Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition is a real, highly limited collector mouse: 1,337 serialized units, a matching $1,337 U.S. price and an included display frame. Its modern specifications are impressive, but they do not independently justify the price. The value comes from the Boomslang’s history, the limited run and the collectible presentation.
If you want a piece of Razer history and understand its ergonomic compromises, it is an unusual and memorable artifact. If you want the best everyday gaming mouse, spend your money on a current mainstream model instead.
