The “Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium” label came from a January 2025 shipping-log entry, not a complete Qualcomm product announcement. It showed that an X2-class development shipment existed, but Qualcomm never confirmed “Ultra Premium” as a retail name or “12CH” as a core count. The public family that followed is called Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Plus.
What the January 2025 shipping record actually showed
HotHardware reported a database entry containing the text “SNAPDRAGON X2 ULTRA PREMIUM 12CH X20.” That is useful evidence of an X2-related development shipment, but it is not a product specification sheet.
- “Ultra Premium” was a shipping-log label. A later 2026 retrospective said Qualcomm never confirmed it as the retail name.
- “12CH” appeared in the record, but Qualcomm did not confirm that it meant 12 CPU cores.
- The entry did not establish clock speeds, graphics hardware, performance, launch timing, a device design or pricing.
Consequently, there is no confirmed retail processor called Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium to identify by model number or benchmark.
What Qualcomm officially announced after the leak
Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and X2 Elite
On September 24, 2025, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and Snapdragon X2 Elite as its premium Windows PC platforms. Qualcomm highlighted up to 80 TOPS of AI processing from the platforms’ NPU.

Qualcomm’s published specifications for the X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme also include a 3nm process node. For X2 Elite Extreme, Qualcomm lists a 5.0 GHz peak for the prime CPU core. Those are vendor specifications, not independent benchmark results.
Snapdragon X2 Plus
Qualcomm added Snapdragon X2 Plus on January 5, 2026. The platform uses a third-generation Oryon CPU and an 80 TOPS NPU. Qualcomm said selected devices were planned for purchase in the first half of 2026; that announcement did not establish a universal release date for every X2 Plus computer.

Horizon Ultra provides a concrete 18-core implementation
On August 31, 2026, Qualcomm and HUMAIN announced Horizon Ultra, an AI PC powered by an 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite. The system combines an Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU for on-device AI, making it a stronger shipping confirmation than the earlier database label.
In that announcement, Qualcomm executive Wassim Chourbaji said: “AI is rapidly emerging as the new interface for computing.”

The table explains why the leaked “12CH” text should not be treated as proof of a separate 12-core Ultra Premium chip: Qualcomm separately lists a 12-core X2 Elite tier in its confirmed portfolio.
How many cores does Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium have?
No confirmed core count exists for a retail product named Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium. The only 12-core figure tied to the X2 family in the current portfolio belongs to a Snapdragon X2 Elite tier, not to the unconfirmed shipping-log name. Qualcomm also identifies an 18-core X2 Elite as its top Elite tier and as the processor in Horizon Ultra.

Reading “12CH” as “12 cores” would therefore turn an unverified database token into a specification Qualcomm did not publish.

Qualcomm’s January 2026 announcement gave selected Snapdragon X2 Plus devices a planned first-half-2026 purchasing window. The August 2026 Horizon Ultra announcement supplied evidence of an announced system using an 18-core X2 Elite.

That information does not provide a single shipping date for every Snapdragon X2 laptop. Release timing varies by manufacturer, model and market. Qualcomm’s current laptop portfolio includes shopping links for X2 systems, but marketplace stock, prices, configurations and warranty terms must be checked at the time of purchase.
Which Snapdragon X2 laptop can you buy?
Start with a live listing for the exact computer rather than searching for “Ultra Premium” as though it were a retail model. Confirm the processor tier, memory, operating-system edition, display, ports, battery claim, weight, retailer, return policy and warranty.
- For the highest documented CPU tier: look for an 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite system; Horizon Ultra is an announced example, though it is an AI PC implementation rather than proof that every laptop manufacturer offers the same configuration.
- For a 12-core configuration: search for the explicitly named 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite, not the leaked Ultra Premium wording.
- For newer tier positioning: Snapdragon X2 Plus uses a third-generation Oryon CPU and an 80 TOPS NPU, but the exact core count and retail configuration must come from the individual device listing.
- For performance comparisons: treat Qualcomm’s TOPS, clock-speed and other figures as published vendor specifications unless an independent test covers the exact laptop.
What the leak still does not tell us
- There is no confirmed retail name, launch price or standalone device associated with “Ultra Premium.”
- The shipping record does not identify the GPU configuration, memory limits, thermal design or battery life.
- No independent benchmark result establishes how the leaked part compares with another processor.
- The “12CH” notation cannot safely answer whether the part had 12 CPU cores, 12 channels or another internal designation.
The practical answer
“Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium” was a real-looking development-shipment label, but not a confirmed Qualcomm retail chip. The products buyers can identify are Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, Snapdragon X2 Elite—including confirmed 12-core and 18-core tiers—and Snapdragon X2 Plus. Use those official names when checking current laptop listings, and verify the exact model’s stock and specifications before buying.
