KPMG’s April 17, 2023 Technical Privacy Assessment Letter found sampled PureVPN infrastructure compliant with claims covering origin IPs, assigned VPN IPs, connection times and VPN activity. It was not a full security certification, a review of every server or a guarantee that PureVPN will never retain data.
What PureVPN’s no-log promise covers
“No-log” does not mean a VPN provider stores no information at all. It normally means the provider does not retain activity or connection records that could link a subscriber to online use.
PureVPN’s privacy policy says its VPN connection logs do not collect:
- the user’s origin IP address;
- the VPN IP address assigned to the user;
- the specific time of a connection; or
- activity conducted through the VPN.
Those statements concern VPN connection and activity data. They are different from account administration, payment records, support information, diagnostics, bandwidth management and feature-specific processing.

Four kinds of data to keep separate
- Activity logs: browsing history, traffic contents, DNS queries and visited sites.
- Connection logs: source IP, assigned VPN IP, timestamps and session duration.
- Account data: email address, subscription status and payment-related information.
- Operational data: bandwidth totals, diagnostics, support records and anti-abuse information.
The KPMG assessment addressed four privacy-policy claims in the first two categories. It did not establish that every other category is absent.
What KPMG actually assessed
The publicly available document is a Technical Privacy Assessment Letter, dated April 17, 2023. PureVPN mandated the engagement. KPMG assessed systems from February 16 through February 22, 2023, then completed validation in March and April.
| Item | What the letter states |
|---|---|
| Document | Technical Privacy Assessment Letter |
| Assessment period | February 16–22, 2023 |
| Validation | Completed during March and April 2023 |
| Infrastructure sampled | Seven VPN servers and supporting infrastructure |
| Geography | Six countries |
| Claims tested | No origin IP, assigned VPN IP, specific connection time or VPN activity logging |
| Conclusion | Sampled infrastructure complied with the four assessed claims |
| Explicit exclusions | Not a cybersecurity assessment or a full privacy assessment |
This is meaningful third-party evidence: an external professional-services firm examined configurations and supporting systems and issued a conclusion tied to defined claims. But it is sample-based. It does not inspect every server, application, employee process, vendor, billing system or future configuration.
Is “KPMG-certified” technically accurate?
“Certified” is PureVPN’s marketing shorthand, not the formal title of the document. The letter calls itself an assessment and concludes that the assessed infrastructure complied with four specified claims. It does not describe an ISO-style certification of PureVPN’s entire company, security program or anonymity.

That wording avoids claims the letter does not support. KPMG did not guarantee that PureVPN never logs anything, certify complete anonymity, continuously observe every customer session or prove that no information could ever be provided to authorities.
What “always-on audit” means
PureVPN’s current Trust Center says its no-log policy has been assessed four times and describes an arrangement in which outside assessors can conduct checks without advance notice.
That is an ongoing accountability arrangement, not necessarily real-time monitoring. “Always-on” does not mean KPMG is watching network traffic continuously or validating every connection as it happens. It means an assessor may be able to perform an unscheduled review.
The 2023 letter is the detailed public document available for inspection. The Trust Center’s current fourth-assessment claim does not provide the same level of public detail about dates, server count, countries, methodology and findings. Do not assume the later assessment had the 2023 scope until a full report is published.
What PureVPN’s current policy still permits or records
PureVPN’s current privacy policy contains disclosures that matter to anyone interpreting “zero logs” literally.

Dedicated IP retention
A dedicated VPN IP remains in PureVPN’s records for 25 days after the subscription ends. A dedicated address is also inherently more attributable to one subscriber than a shared VPN address, so it is a poor fit for users seeking maximum unlinkability.
Extended WireGuard Duration
An IP associated with the manually configured Extended WireGuard Duration add-on can remain recorded for 24 hours after the subscription ends or the key is removed because of inactivity or disconnection.

The Tracker and Ad Blocker temporarily records the names of blocked trackers and advertisements and how often they are blocked. The policy says this information is held in system memory for a minimum period and then automatically deleted.
Bandwidth management
PureVPN tracks total bandwidth consumption to manage performance and prevent abuse. A bandwidth total is not the same as a browsing history, but it is still operational data.
White-label and partner deployments
The policy describes two white-label tracks: a default KPMG-audited no-logs network and an optional Partner Compliance Track that can include additional administrative records and retention requirements at a partner’s request. The latter is an enterprise deployment and is not offered directly to ordinary consumer accounts.

Does the audit make PureVPN anonymous?
No. A no-log assessment addresses what the VPN provider retains; it does not control what websites, apps or your device can observe.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Sites can identify you when you sign in to an account.
- Cookies, advertising IDs and browser fingerprinting can link sessions.
- DNS, WebRTC or IPv6 leaks can expose information if a device or configuration is faulty.
- A VPN does not make a compromised device secure.
Use a current app, enable its kill switch where appropriate, review DNS and WebRTC behavior, and understand that bundled password managers, dark-web monitoring and data-removal services are separate products. None expands what KPMG tested.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens when authorities request data?
A no-log provider can receive subpoenas, court orders, emergency requests or abuse notices. The practical question is what relevant data exists when a request arrives.
In its H1 2025 transparency report, PureVPN says it received 43,358 external requests during the first half of 2025 and that no user identity was disclosed. Those figures are provider-authored transparency claims, not independent legal or forensic findings. They should not be read as proof that PureVPN is immune from legal process.
PureVPN’s Trust Center also says the company moved its legal jurisdiction from Hong Kong to the British Virgin Islands in 2021. Jurisdiction can affect obligations, but it does not replace an audit or prevent lawful demands.

How PureVPN compares with other audit-focused choices
There is no single universal “best” VPN. The relevant comparison is how much public evidence a provider publishes, what its policy permits and which features you actually need.
| Provider | Useful comparison angle | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| PureVPN | Feature-heavy consumer plans and a public 2023 KPMG assessment letter | Scope of the latest assessment, renewal price and dedicated-IP data handling |
| Proton VPN | Privacy-first positioning and recurring audit discussions | Current report scope, plan limits and pricing |
| NordVPN | Large consumer ecosystem and recurring third-party assurance claims | Latest report publication and renewal terms |
| ExpressVPN | Long-running third-party assessment and policy-verification claims | Current methodology and feature-specific exceptions |
| Surfshark | Multi-device and household-value positioning | Current audit documentation, limits and renewal pricing |
PureVPN’s order page displayed monthly list prices on August 18, 2026 of $12.95 for Standard, $17.95 for Plus and $19.95 for Max. Promotional and term-based prices can differ, so check the checkout total and renewal price. The Trust Center advertises a 31-day full-refund period; verify exclusions in the purchase flow.
Who should buy PureVPN?
Reasonable fit
- You want a mainstream VPN with many bundled features and accept a narrowly defined, provider-published audit record.
- You value evidence that four specific no-log claims were externally assessed.
- You need features such as multi-login support, port forwarding or a dedicated IP and understand their different data implications.
Look elsewhere or investigate further
- You require a complete, recent public audit report with detailed methodology and broad system coverage.
- You need maximum unlinkability; avoid a dedicated-IP add-on and consider a provider whose current evidence is more fully published.
- You are evaluating a business or white-label deployment, where partner compliance rules may differ from consumer handling.
Bottom line on the KPMG evidence
PureVPN’s KPMG assessment is legitimate evidence that sampled infrastructure complied with four no-log claims during the February 2023 assessment, with validation completed in the following months. It is narrower than the headline “KPMG-certified” suggests, and “always-on” describes the possibility of unscheduled reviews rather than continuous surveillance.
Readers can reasonably treat PureVPN as a VPN with independently assessed no-log claims—not as a service proven to retain no information under every feature, deployment or future configuration.
