As of October 2, 2026, the latest exact PS5 system-software version visible in the MewX firmware index is 26.06-14.00.00, dated September 9, 2026. That index is a third-party chronology, not Sony’s release-notes source. Check Sony’s live PS5 system-software support page for the current download and feature notes before updating; Sony’s page is dynamically maintained.
What is the latest PS5 system software version?
The latest exact version visible in the MewX firmware index on October 2, 2026, is 26.06-14.00.00, with a listed build date of September 9, 2026. Treat that as a cross-check rather than definitive confirmation: Sony’s live support page is the authoritative place to verify the current version, download and installation instructions. A version number can change after an index is updated.
The available information does not establish the user-facing changes in version 26.06-14.00.00. Do not assume that a newer firmware number means new features; some releases may focus on maintenance, and Sony’s live notes should be checked for details.
How to check your PS5 version
- Open Settings > System > System Software > Console Information.
- Read the system-software version shown on the console. Sony says the console displays “Up to date” when the latest version is installed.
How to install a PS5 system update
Update over the internet
- Connect the PS5 to the internet.
- Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Select Update System Software and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is available.
Update from a USB drive
Use a USB drive formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. Sony’s update procedure calls for approximately 1.1 GB of free space for the update file.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
- On the USB drive, create the folders
PS5/UPDATE. - Download the PS5 update file from Sony’s official support page and save it in that folder with the exact filename
PS5UPDATE.PUP. The resulting path must bePS5/UPDATE/PS5UPDATE.PUP. - Connect the drive to the PS5, then turn the console off.
- Start Safe Mode by pressing and holding the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Choose Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device and follow the prompts.
If the console does not detect the file, check the drive format, folder names and filename, including the spelling and capitalization, and confirm that the file is in the UPDATE folder rather than the USB drive’s root.
Reinstall system software only when necessary
A reinstallation is not the same as a normal update. Sony’s reinstallation procedure uses a separate reinstallation file, requires approximately 1.2 GB of free space, and deletes data on the console. Back up anything you need before proceeding. Do not select a reinstall option as a routine way to install an update.

What did the notable 2025 PS5 update add?
In a PlayStation Blog announcement dated April 23, 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment VP of Product Management Shuzo Kikuchi described two additions: audio-focus presets to amplify softer sounds, and the return of classic PlayStation console designs for the PS5 user interface. The post said the phased rollout began April 24, 2025. These are confirmed features of that announced update, not a description of the later 2026 firmware version.
PS5 update history: what is confirmed
Sony’s support page is the source to consult for current update files and notes, but it does not provide a complete, stable release-by-release archive in the available material. The entries below therefore are not a full firmware history. The September 2026 version comes from a third-party index; the April 2025 entry is a dated Sony announcement. No firmware number is established here for the April announcement.
