“Predefined Game Profiles” most directly refers to factory-set gaming picture presets on certain Philips TVs. They change how the TV presents a game; they do not increase a console or PC’s frame rate or alter controller buttons. On supported models, the choices include Standard, Reference, and Low frame rate game (30–60 fps). Similar terms in gaming-peripheral software describe a different kind of profile, so the right answer depends on where you saw the label.
What is a predefined Game profile?
A predefined Game profile is a ready-made collection of picture settings. Instead of adjusting every control yourself, you choose a preset intended for a particular gaming presentation. The exact settings behind a preset—and the presets available—can vary by TV model, software, region, and active picture format.
On Philips TVs covered by the documented manual, the menu is called Game profile. It is distinct from Viewing mode: Game viewing mode is the broader mode intended to prioritize fast response and low input lag, while Game profile selects a picture configuration within that gaming context.

Philips TV profiles explained

These are the choices listed in the cited Philips manual, not a universal set for every Philips TV. Check the manual for your exact model before assuming the names or options match. “Low frame rate game” does not raise a game’s FPS; it is a preset for presenting that kind of input.

How to select a profile
- Open Home > Settings > Picture.
- Set Viewing mode to Game. On supported models, Auto may also make the Game profile available when the TV detects game content.
- Open Game profile and choose an available preset.
- Test it in the game and signal format you actually use.
The documented menu path is Home > Settings > Picture > Game profile. Menu names and availability may differ by model or firmware. If you are comparing presets, use the same scene and look at dark areas, bright highlights, fine text, and fast camera movement. Keep the setting that is most readable and comfortable to you rather than assuming a name guarantees a better result.
Which profile should you use?
- Choose Standard first for general gaming or when you are unsure.
- Try Reference if you prefer its presentation, especially for games where a natural-looking image matters more to you than extra visual punch. It is a manufacturer description, not independent measurement evidence.
- Try Low frame rate game (30–60 fps) when the title consistently runs in that range. It may suit a cinematic game, older console, or strategy title, but it is not automatically best for every 30- or 60-fps game.
- For competitive play, compare rather than assume. Check whether the picture is easy to read during motion and in shadowed areas. A setting that lifts shadow detail can help visibility but may make blacks look gray or washed out.
Room brightness and personal preference matter. Presets offer convenience; manual adjustment can better suit a particular room, game, or signal. If a brighter image helps in daylight, remember that brighter is not necessarily more faithful to the source.

Do profiles reduce input lag or improve performance?
The main input-lag consideration is entering Game viewing mode, not choosing one of its picture presets. Philips describes Game viewing mode as suited to fast response and low input lag, but the cited manual does not give measured latency for Standard versus Reference versus Low frame rate game. Do not infer a millisecond advantage from the profile name. A valid numerical comparison would need testing of the exact TV model, firmware, resolution, refresh rate, HDR state, and settings.

A TV picture preset also cannot increase FPS, upgrade the console or PC, or remove network latency. Frame rate depends on the game, hardware, graphics settings, resolution, and selected performance mode. The TV changes its presentation of the incoming signal.

Can you create a custom profile?
On the Philips model covered by the manual, custom profiles can be created through the Game Bar: switch into Game mode, open the Game Bar, go to Game Bar setting > Profile > Add profile, and save the current settings. The custom profile then becomes available in Game profile settings. This workflow is model- and firmware-dependent, so it may not appear on every Philips TV.
Before saving a custom profile, note or photograph settings you may want to restore. A profile suited to one room or picture format may not look right in another context.

TV Game profiles versus peripheral profiles
“Game profile” is also used by software for gaming mice, keyboards, headsets, and other devices. Those profiles can store controls or effects and may switch when a game starts; they are not TV picture presets.

For example, SteelSeries GG QuickSet and Library Apps associate supported settings with games and can switch when the assigned executable launches. Razer Synapse documents linking profiles or lighting effects to applications, while Logitech G HUB manages a game library and customization for supported Logitech G gear. These are ecosystem-specific device settings, not alternatives that unlock or change a TV’s profile.

HDR, Dolby Vision, and HDMI input differences
Do not assume a preset will look identical across SDR and HDR. HDR may use a separate picture-processing path, and Dolby Vision gaming can have its own modes or restrictions. Launch the HDR game, confirm the signal format, and recheck the available picture options and result. The exact interaction depends on the TV and signal; the cited documentation does not establish one best preset across SDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.
Likewise, the documented information does not establish universal behavior for whether profiles are shared across HDMI inputs or retained separately. Test on the input you use, then switch sources and return to see what the TV retains.
Troubleshooting
Game profile is missing or unavailable
- Set Viewing mode to Game manually, then return to Settings > Picture. On supported models, try Auto only if the TV detects game content.
- Check the exact model’s manual: the feature and its labels are not guaranteed on every Philips TV.
- If the menu is absent only with HDR or Dolby Vision active, check the available options in that format; the picture path may differ.
- For a console or PC, test a direct HDMI connection, bypassing an AV receiver, switch, or capture device temporarily. Confirm the source is outputting the resolution and refresh rate you expect.
Auto switching does not happen
On a TV, automatic availability depends on game-content detection; selecting Game mode manually is a useful check. In peripheral software, automatic switching usually depends on associating the profile with the correct game application or executable. For SteelSeries GG, verify the game’s .exe path against its Library entry; a launcher may remain open while a separate game executable starts. Also check supported hardware and software or firmware updates, and set a default profile for other applications.
Low frame rate game looks worse
The preset is a choice, not a requirement. Compare it with Standard or Reference using the same scene, including camera pans, dark interiors, HUD text, bright HDR highlights, and fine detail. A stable 60-fps game may look or feel better to you in another profile.
A custom profile or source change alters the picture
Recheck which input and picture format are active, and compare with the settings you recorded before creating the custom profile. Since model documentation does not establish universal per-input behavior, verify what your TV retains rather than assuming the profile is global or input-specific.
