The Poco X4 GT is a performance-focused phone launched in 2022, built around the MediaTek Dimensity 8100, a 144Hz LCD and 67W charging. It can still make sense as a discounted gaming phone if its battery is healthy and its software, network compatibility and warranty check out. Its age, LCD, modest camera system and uncertain remaining support make it a weaker choice at near-new-phone prices.

What the Poco X4 GT is—and what it is not
POCO introduced the X4 GT as a performance-oriented phone in June 2022. It is often described as the global counterpart of the China-market Redmi Note 11T Pro, though regional configurations should not be assumed identical. It is a separate proposition from the Poco X4 Pro 5G: the X4 GT’s defining feature is its Dimensity 8100 chipset, paired with a fast LCD, rather than an AMOLED-first or camera-first approach. Contemporary reviews from Android Central and Stuff cover that relationship.
Think of it as a regular smartphone with unusually strong gaming hardware for its generation, not a dedicated gaming device. There are no gaming shoulder triggers or specialized accessories of the sort associated with gaming-phone lines.

Performance and gaming
Why the Dimensity 8100 is the main attraction
The Dimensity 8100 is built on TSMC’s 5nm process and pairs four Cortex-A78 cores running at up to 2.85GHz with four Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 2.0GHz. Its graphics processor is the Mali-G610 MC6, and the platform includes MediaTek’s APU 580. The X4 GT also uses LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage, which help with multitasking and loading large apps. POCO lists the complete hardware configuration on its specification page.
At launch, reviewers praised the phone’s responsiveness and gaming performance. Tech Advisor reported smooth play in titles including Asphalt 9 and Real Racing 3. That makes the chipset the strongest reason to consider the phone now, but old benchmark scores should not be treated as a ranking against every phone sold in 2026: firmware, game versions, temperature, battery condition and sustained load all affect results.
High refresh rate does not guarantee high frame rates
The display can refresh at up to 144Hz, but that is a panel ceiling, not a promise that every app or game will render at that rate. Games need to support high-frame-rate modes, and software may leave some apps at 60Hz. Tech Advisor noted that games did not always switch to higher refresh rates automatically. Heat, power settings and the individual unit’s condition also matter during longer sessions.

Cooling and audio
The X4 GT has POCO’s LiquidCool Technology 2.0. POCO describes its cooling system as using a vapor chamber and graphite, and claims a vapor chamber 32% larger than the one in the X3 GT; that is a manufacturer comparison, not independent thermal testing. The phone also has stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support. These features round out a gaming-friendly setup, though they do not turn it into a device with dedicated controls or gaming accessories. Display: fast LCD, not AMOLED
The 6.6-inch screen has FHD+ resolution, a maximum 144Hz refresh rate and a stated 270Hz touch sampling rate under specified conditions. POCO also lists DCI-P3 color coverage, Dolby Vision, HDR10, DC dimming and Gorilla Glass 5. Brightness is rated at 500 nits typical and 650 nits in High Brightness Mode. These are official specifications, not a guarantee of identical performance in every setting; the full details are on POCO’s specification page.
For scrolling and supported games, the high refresh rate can make motion look smooth. The trade-off is the LCD panel: blacks and contrast do not match AMOLED, and its stated peak brightness is modest by newer phone standards, especially for bright outdoor use. Dolby Vision and HDR10 support are useful compatibility features, but they do not erase the underlying difference in contrast. Choose the X4 GT for speed and value rather than for the most vivid movie-watching screen.

Battery life and charging
The battery is rated at 5,080mAh typical, and charging is rated at 67W. POCO claims an approximately 46-minute full charge under its test conditions; the company notes results vary with software, device version, use and testing conditions. Treat that as a manufacturer figure rather than a promise for every handset. The claims and qualifications appear on POCO’s product page and its specifications page.
A contemporary Stuff review found it could last through a day of heavy mixed use, including gaming and video editing. A second-hand phone’s battery is a different question: after several years, actual capacity and charging behavior depend on how the individual unit was used and stored. Check for rapid percentage drops, unusual heat, swelling, unexpected shutdowns and intermittent USB-C connections. If fast charging matters, test with a suitable charger and cable rather than relying on the phone’s original rating.
Cameras: serviceable main camera, limited supporting hardware
The rear setup consists of a 64MP f/1.89 main camera, an 8MP ultrawide with a 120-degree field of view and a 2MP macro camera. The front camera is 16MP. Rear video recording reaches 4K at 30fps or 1080p at up to 60fps; the front camera records up to 1080p at 30fps. Those are the official capabilities listed by POCO.
The main camera is best regarded as adequate, not flagship-grade. The lower-resolution ultrawide is a less capable option, particularly when light is poor, and the 2MP macro camera should not be a buying reason. There is no dedicated telephoto camera. A 64MP sensor or 4K recording specification alone cannot establish image quality, stabilization or low-light results; contemporary Tech Advisor coverage criticized the camera proposition against better-balanced rivals. If photography matters as much as gaming, look for sample images or a newer alternative with stronger camera hardware and processing.
Storage, connectivity and everyday hardware
The global model comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It has dual nano-SIM support and no microSD card slot, so the 128GB version may feel restrictive if you keep several large games or a lot of offline video. Tech Advisor also notes the lack of expandable storage.

Check the exact model number and supported bands with your carrier before buying an import; the official specifications carry a regional-availability qualification.

The phone measures 163.64 × 74.29 × 8.87mm and weighs 200g. Its flat screen and side fingerprint sensor may suit users who prefer a conventional, easy-to-reach reader, but the size is substantial rather than compact. The global page lists blue, black and silver options; packaging and regional variants can differ.

The X4 GT shipped with Android 12 and MIUI 13 for POCO. The available official specifications do not establish the latest security-patch date, a current HyperOS version or a definitive end-of-support date, so do not assume a particular update runway when buying one. A phone receiving an occasional update is not the same as having a long-term support commitment.
Before paying, check the handset itself:
- Open Settings → About phone to see the installed Android or HyperOS version.
- Check the security status or software-update screen for the patch date shown on that unit.
- Ask whether the bootloader is unlocked and whether the phone has been flashed with firmware for another region.
- Test banking apps, DRM playback, NFC payments and carrier features that matter to you.
For application compatibility or display-adaptation issues, POCO’s official support FAQ says some problems may need to be raised with the app developer.
Buying an imported or used X4 GT
Check region, network and warranty
Imported units can differ in supported bands, NFC, firmware and included charger. VoLTE also depends on carrier deployment and service availability, as the official user manual explains. Verify local 4G/5G band support, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with the carrier, and confirm whether the seller provides a usable local warranty and return period. Contemporary Tech Advisor coverage reported that the phone was not officially sold in the UK or US at launch; that does not establish current third-party availability or compatibility in those markets.
Inspect condition before committing
For a used device, ask for the exact storage and region, proof that the seller has removed their accounts, and a chance to test the handset. A practical check includes sustained gaming to reveal abnormal heat or performance drops, plus a camera, speaker, fingerprint-reader, vibration and charging test. Inspect the frame, screen and USB-C port, and confirm the phone can be factory-reset and set up without the previous owner’s account. Prefer a seller with a clear return window, especially if battery condition is undocumented.
Who should buy the Poco X4 GT?
It is most compelling as a low-cost performance device when the buyer values games, multitasking and fast charging over photography, OLED contrast and a long assured software runway. Its 256GB configuration is the safer fit for a large game library, provided the price and condition are right. There is no defensible universal price threshold without a current local market comparison.
Consider a newer phone instead if the X4 GT costs close to current midrange models. Newer Poco or Redmi performance models may offer a more current platform; newer Samsung Galaxy A-series phones may be easier to buy with local warranty and longer support; some OnePlus Nord-class phones may better balance OLED displays and cameras. These are categories, not like-for-like recommendations: check the exact chipset, display, network bands, update policy and regional price. A dedicated gaming phone may add cooling or controls, but can be larger and less balanced for ordinary use.

- It can be a sensible buy if it is substantially discounted, has a healthy battery, works on your carrier, and gaming matters more than camera quality.
- Look elsewhere if it is near the price of a newer phone, has uncertain firmware or network compatibility, or you need stronger photography, AMOLED or predictable long-term support.
