Yes— you can use a PS5 DualSense with compatible Android phones and tablets over Bluetooth or USB-C. Sony lists Android 12 or later for DualSense mobile connections, but pairing the controller does not guarantee that a particular game will accept it. You can also use the controller with PS5 games streamed through PS Remote Play, which is a different experience from running an Android game locally.

What you need

  • A DualSense Wireless Controller and a phone or tablet. Sony lists Android 12 or later for DualSense Bluetooth and USB connections; menu names and wired behavior can still vary by device. Sony’s DualSense mobile support guidance
  • For wireless play, Bluetooth enabled and a charged controller. For wired play, use a USB-C cable that carries data, not one intended only for charging. Some phones or adapters may also need USB OTG/host support.
  • A game or app that supports external game controllers. Android may recognize the controller even when a specific game does not.
  • For Remote Play, a PS5 or PS4 with current system software, a PlayStation Network account, the PS Remote Play app, and a fast, stable internet connection. The PS Remote Play app listing gives Android 10 or later as the app’s general minimum; using a DualSense on mobile requires Android 12 or later.

Pair the DualSense over Bluetooth

  1. If the controller’s player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it turns off. Disconnect any USB cable.
  2. Hold the Create button and PS button together until the light bar flashes. This puts the controller into Bluetooth pairing mode, as Sony’s pairing instructions specify.
  3. On Android, open Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device. The wording may differ by phone maker or Android version. Google’s Android controller and Bluetooth guidance covers pairing and controller settings.
  4. Tap DualSense Wireless Controller in the available-device list and confirm if Android asks you to pair.
  5. Open a controller-compatible game and test the sticks, face buttons, D-pad, bumpers, and triggers. A connected-device indicator in Android settings does not confirm that the game supports input.

Connect by USB-C instead

  1. Connect the controller to the phone or tablet with a USB-C data cable. Use a compatible adapter if the device requires one.
  2. Approve an Android USB prompt if one appears, then open the game and check its controller or input settings.
  3. If there is no input, try another data-capable cable or adapter and test a second game known to support controllers.

USB can avoid Bluetooth pairing conflicts and may be preferable when wireless input is unreliable. It does not add game support or restore mobile-incompatible DualSense features. The cable can make phone placement awkward, draw power from the phone, and occupy its USB-C port; charging at the same time may require additional hardware.

Check whether an Android game supports controllers

Support is decided by the game, not just by Android or by whether Bluetooth pairing succeeded. It generally falls into one of three patterns:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

  • Full or near-full support: The game recognizes the controller and maps the main controls, though its menus or special actions may still use touch.
  • Partial support: Some movement or buttons work, but other functions—such as camera control, menus, or gestures—require the screen.
  • No support: The game accepts touch input but ignores the controller.

Look in a game’s settings for Controller, Gamepad, Input, Key mapping, or Button layout. If you connect the controller after launching a game, close the game completely and reopen it with the controller already connected. Test a second controller-compatible title before concluding that the controller is faulty.

Android’s controller customization options can vary by version and device. Try Settings → System → Game controllers, or look for the controller under Connected devices. Google documents options for remapping or swapping some button and joystick assignments, but a game’s own settings may override or supplement those options: Android controller settings.

Why the button prompts may look wrong

Some Android games show generic or Xbox-style prompts rather than PlayStation symbols. An on-screen “A” may mean the physical DualSense cross button; the other letter prompts may also differ from the symbols printed on the controller. Check the game’s layout settings and use its control display as the guide. Mismatched prompts do not necessarily indicate a connection problem.

Use the DualSense with PS Remote Play

Native Android play runs a game on the phone or tablet. Remote Play instead runs a PS5 or PS4 game on the console and streams its video to the mobile device while sending your input back. It can bring console games to a screen that cannot run them as Android apps, but the stream depends on the network at both ends.

  1. Install PS Remote Play from Google Play and sign in with the PlayStation Network account associated with the console.
  2. Make sure the PS5 or PS4 has current system software and is powered on or configured appropriately for Remote Play from rest mode.
  3. Connect the mobile device and console through the app, following Sony’s PS5 mobile setup instructions.
  4. Pair the DualSense to the Android device using Bluetooth steps above, or connect it with a USB-C data cable, then start the console game in the app.

The app listing states Android 10 or later as its general requirement, but Sony lists Android 12 or later for DualSense mobile use. It lists Android 14 or later for DualSense Edge use with Remote Play. Sony also requires a fast, stable connection and warns that mobile-data conditions can interfere and that Remote Play can use more data than many ordinary streaming services. Check the current app listing for its requirements.

If the picture or controls feel delayed, investigate the network before blaming the controller. Use strong Wi-Fi where possible, reduce wireless congestion, connect the PS5 to the router by Ethernet if practical, and pause large downloads or streams. Test on a local network before relying on mobile data. A weak or congested connection is a poor fit for fast competitive games; no particular latency can be guaranteed across networks.

Which DualSense features work on Android?

Sony’s mobile guidance describes key DualSense features that are unavailable on mobile devices. Standard gamepad inputs can work where an app supports them, but Android should not be expected to reproduce the full PS5 controller experience.

Troubleshoot connection and input problems

Android cannot find the controller

  1. Turn the controller off, unplug its USB cable, and hold Create + PS until the light flashes.
  2. Toggle Bluetooth off and back on, then retry Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device.
  3. If Android has an old DualSense entry, remove or forget it and pair again. Move the controller away from other Bluetooth devices while pairing.
  4. If it still will not pair, follow Sony’s current controller reset guidance from its DualSense support page.

Android pairs, but the game does nothing

The game may not support controllers, may accept only certain controls or modes, or may need controller support enabled in its settings. Close the game fully, connect the controller, and relaunch it. Check its input settings, test another known controller-compatible game, and try the other connection method if available.

Buttons are mapped incorrectly

First check whether the game uses Xbox-style prompts or a non-PlayStation layout. Then inspect the game’s control settings and Android’s controller customization options. If the title recognizes a generic gamepad but not PlayStation-specific labels, the mismatch may be a software limitation rather than a controller defect.

The controller disconnects or reconnects to the wrong device

Check that it is charged and that the phone is within a reliable Bluetooth range. If pairing remains unstable, remove the saved controller entry and pair again, or switch to a data-capable USB connection. Bluetooth behavior can vary with the device and nearby wireless activity.

The touchpad or motion controls do not work

This does not by itself indicate a fault. Native Android games may not implement the DualSense touchpad, motion sensors, or PlayStation-specific input. Consult the game’s control documentation and test the feature in that app.

The controller will not reconnect to the PS5

Connect the DualSense to the PS5 with a compatible USB cable and press the PS button. Sony documents this wired reconnection method; remove the cable after it reconnects if you want to play wirelessly. Sony’s DualSense pairing and reconnection instructions

Is the DualSense the right controller for phone gaming?

If you already own a DualSense, it is a practical first choice for Android games that support controllers and for Remote Play. Its trade-offs are size, the lack of an integrated phone grip, and mobile app support that does not include all signature PS5 features. For frequent play on a phone, a telescopic controller can be easier to carry and hold because it mounts around the handset, but check phone fit, USB-C compatibility, and case clearance before buying. Sony’s Remote Play listing specifically mentions the Backbone One PlayStation Edition for USB-C Android smartphones.

If you want PS5 games on Android, prioritize Remote Play compatibility and a dependable network rather than buying another controller. If you mainly want portable local gaming, compare the convenience of a phone-mounted controller with the familiar full-size DualSense you already have. Neither controller choice guarantees support in every Android game.
