Short answer: Testing suggests a Pixel 10 Pro XL runs better on newer software than it did at launch, with modest CPU gains and somewhat larger GPU gains. But the available results do not show that Android 16 QPR2 alone caused the improvement—or that every Pixel 10 model gets the same boost.
Google released stable Android 16 QPR2 on December 2, 2025, and lists the Pixel 10 family among the supported devices. The most detailed published performance comparison is from a Pixel 10 Pro XL, so its results should not be treated as a guaranteed before-and-after measurement for the standard Pixel 10.
What the Pixel 10 Pro XL testing found
Android Authority’s testing found that a Pixel 10 Pro XL posted higher scores on newer software than it had at launch. The reported changes were:

These are benchmark results, not a promise that apps will open 5% faster or that every game will gain 6% more frames. A small single-core change may be hard to notice in daily use. GPU gains could matter more in demanding games, but actual frame rates depend on the game, graphics settings, resolution, API, temperature and any frame-rate cap.

The bigger practical difference, if it is noticeable, may be consistency: fewer stutters or less slowdown during sustained workloads, rather than a dramatic jump in peak speed. That is particularly relevant to gaming, long camera sessions, video processing and extended multitasking.
Why Android 16 QPR2 could help
Google’s QPR2 release notes describe a Generational Concurrent Mark-Compact garbage collector in Android Runtime (ART). It focuses collection work on newly allocated objects, which are more likely to be short-lived. Google says the change is intended to reduce garbage-collection CPU use, improve efficiency and reduce user-interface jank.
That is a software-level platform change, not a Tensor G5 overclock or a new performance mode. Less runtime overhead could help the system feel smoother in some situations, but garbage collection is only one part of performance. It will not necessarily change an app that is limited by its graphics engine, GPU workload, network connection or thermal limits. Nor does it guarantee a visible speedup in every app.

Google’s QPR2 announcement describes broader improvements to the user experience, efficiency, media, security and developer tools; it does not promise specific Pixel 10 benchmark gains.
Did QPR2 itself make the phone faster?
That is not established. Android Authority found the tested Pro XL faster on newer software than at launch, but noted that many improvements may have appeared before the final QPR2 release, potentially in the November update. The available comparison cannot cleanly separate launch software, intervening monthly patches and QPR2.
The careful conclusion is that the tested Pixel 10 Pro XL performed better on newer software than at launch. QPR2 may have contributed, but it should not be credited with the entire change on the evidence available.

What about the standard Pixel 10 and other models?
The detailed benchmark comparison was conducted on the Pixel 10 Pro XL, not the base Pixel 10. The models share the Tensor G5 platform, but their thermal design, memory, display resolution and sustained cooling can differ. The Pro XL’s percentages therefore cannot be applied automatically to the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Google’s QPR2 device list includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Eligibility does not mean every US handset receives the update at the same time: delivery can be staged by model, carrier, region and build. Android Central’s Pixel 10 review describes everyday performance as solid while identifying gaming as a relative weakness. A software update does not by itself establish that the phone is now a class-leading gaming device.
Could gaming improve?
Possibly, but expect a modest and workload-dependent change. The 3DMark Vulkan results cited above rose by about 5% and 7%. That could translate into slightly higher frame rates or better consistency in some demanding games and emulators; it will not translate into the same gain in every title. Resolution, graphics settings, heat, game-engine behavior and frame-rate limits can outweigh a synthetic benchmark difference.

Reports of larger gains in OpenGL should be treated as unverified, rather than as evidence that OpenGL performance doubled. Vulkan and OpenGL results are not interchangeable, and a benchmark result does not establish how a particular game behaves.
Does QPR2 mean better battery life or lower temperatures?
Google says the ART change is intended to improve efficiency, and Android Authority reported no added temperature or stability penalty in its testing. Neither point guarantees longer battery life or cooler operation for every owner. The result depends on apps and workloads; any benefit could appear as reduced background overhead or fewer performance spikes rather than extra hours of screen-on time.
How to check for the stable update in the US
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then Software updates.
- Tap System update if that option appears, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Keep the phone connected to power, or ensure it has adequate charge. Restart if prompted.
Menu wording can vary by software build. If QPR2 is not offered, it may not yet be available for that handset or carrier; check again later rather than assuming the phone is ineligible. Google’s QPR2 download page lists supported devices and installation options.

For ordinary owners, the stable over-the-air update is the sensible route. Do not enroll in a beta or manually flash a build just to chase these benchmark changes. Google’s developer documentation describes beta and manual-install options for testing and development, not as a routine performance fix; preview software can have bugs, and flashing or changing software paths may involve data-loss risks. Back up important data before any nonstandard installation.
Should you update or buy a Pixel 10?
If a stable update is offered for your Pixel 10, installing it is reasonable for the platform, security and compatibility improvements, with the performance gains as a possible bonus. A phone may also run background optimization or app work after an update, so short-term battery or benchmark fluctuations do not necessarily show its settled performance.
If you are shopping for a phone, do not choose a Pixel 10 solely because of the reported uplift. It is evidence of modest improvement on one tested Pro XL, not proof that QPR2 transforms the whole lineup. Consider the Pixel for the features that matter to you—such as its software experience, camera and AI features—rather than treating this update as a fix for any gaming-performance gap. The cited review lists launch prices of $799 for the 128GB Pixel 10 and $899 for the 256GB model; those are launch figures, not verified current US prices.
