The March 2025 Pixel 10 design leak showed Google refining, not replacing, the Pixel 9 family’s look: flat sides, rounded corners, a centered punch-hole display and a horizontal rear camera bar. Its biggest clue was the standard Pixel 10’s apparent third rear camera, including a telephoto lens. Google announced the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL on August 20, 2025, and the final phones broadly matched the renders’ shape and camera-bar design.
Update: These were unofficial CAD-based renders, not Google product images. Google later confirmed the phones’ designs and specifications at its August 20, 2025 announcement. The original renders were broadly accurate about the family’s overall design, but could not establish details such as final finishes, camera sensors or regional color availability.
What the Pixel 10 design leak showed
The first major render coverage appeared on March 11, 2025, with reporting from Android Headlines and OnLeaks-style CAD material. It depicted the standard Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. CAD renders are useful for approximating a phone’s outline, dimensions, button positions and camera layout. They are not a reliable way to verify internal hardware, final colors, software, packaging, pricing or where a phone will be sold. 9to5Google’s original render coverage and Android Authority’s analysis documented the early designs.
Across all three models, the leaked silhouette looked familiar: flat metal side rails, rounded corners, a flat front display with a centered hole-punch selfie camera, and a horizontal, pill-shaped camera bar on the back. The renders suggested continuity with the Pixel 9 series rather than a radical redesign. That does not mean the phones were identical: dimensions, camera-bar details, finishes, colors and internal construction could differ even where the overall shape looked much the same.

Pixel 10, Pro and Pro XL: what the designs mean

The display specifications, dimensions and weights above come from Google’s Pixel 10 series specification sheet. The standard Pixel 10’s display runs at 60–120Hz; the Pro models’ LTPO panels run at 1–120Hz. The Pro and Pro XL therefore share a premium camera setup, while the XL is a genuinely larger and heavier phone, not just a different name for a screen-size option.
Pixel 10: the camera-bar change that mattered
The most consequential detail in the standard model’s render was a third rear camera. The official specifications confirmed that the Pixel 10 has a 48MP wide camera, a 13MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP 5× telephoto, with up to 20× Super Res Zoom. It was the first standard Pixel model to add a telephoto camera. The extra lens made the base model’s camera bar look more like the Pro phones’ and narrowed an important hardware distinction between the tiers, even though their cameras are not equivalent. Pixel 10 Pro: premium cameras in the compact body
The Pixel 10 Pro has the same 6.3-inch body dimensions as the standard Pixel 10, but pairs that footprint with a higher-end display and camera system. Google lists a 50MP wide camera, a 48MP ultrawide with Macro Focus and a 48MP 5× telephoto, with up to 100× Pro Res Zoom. Its 42MP autofocus ultrawide front camera is also different from the standard model’s. The Pro’s three-lens bar may look familiar from a distance, but its camera hardware and capabilities are not the same as the Pixel 10’s. Full details are on Google’s Pixel 10 Pro specifications page.

The Pro XL keeps the Pro’s camera system but stretches the design to a 6.8-inch display and a 162.8 × 76.6mm body. At 232g, it is also substantially heavier than the 207g Pro. Google’s specification sheet lists a larger battery for the XL and faster wired charging; the Pro XL can reach up to 70% in about 30 minutes with a 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher, under Google’s stated charging conditions. That makes the XL a choice for people who want the larger screen, battery and faster charging as well as the Pro cameras—not merely a bigger-looking version of the same phone.

How the leak compares with the Pixel 9 design
The Pixel 10 family carried forward the main Pixel 9 design cues: flat sides, curved corners, a centered selfie-camera cutout and a prominent horizontal camera bar. The practical visual distinction was clearest on the base Pixel 10, whose third camera gave it a more Pro-like rear arrangement. The Pro and Pro XL continued the premium triple-camera look rather than adopting a wholly new design language. Google’s official Pixel 10 product page shows the final design and describes the standard model’s polished back glass, satin finish and recycled-aluminum accents.
Early reporting put the Pixel 10 at about 152.8 × 72 × 8.6mm and the Pro XL at about 162.8 × 76.6 × 8.5mm; the final official figures match those dimensions. Later leak reporting also suggested that the Pixel 10 and Pro were about 0.1mm thicker and several grams heavier than their Pixel 9 counterparts. A 0.1mm difference is measurable, but it is not a meaningful visible redesign by itself. Weight can reflect camera hardware, battery, materials, cooling or internal structure as well as size. Do not assume a Pixel 9 case will fit a Pixel 10 just because the phones look similar or have close dimensions. Camera-bar geometry, button placement, openings and small changes to the frame can prevent a proper fit. Google introduced its Pixelsnap magnetic accessory system with the Pixel 10 line; check that any case or accessory specifically lists your model. The design story gained additional corroboration after the March renders. On July 23, reporting said Google Play Store promotional imagery showed the Pixel 10 family; later renders published on August 11 showed colors and multiple angles. Those reports were still leaks at the time, not formal product announcements. Google’s announcement on August 20 made the final design and specifications official. The phones became available from August 28, 2025, depending on model and market. The reported Play Store image was a later corroborating leak, not the source of the original March design story.

Colors need the same distinction. Later leaks showed options including Moonstone, Indigo or blue-toned colors, Frost, Lemongrass and Obsidian. Google’s US Pixel 10 page lists Indigo, Frost, Lemongrass and Obsidian for the standard model. Availability varies by model and country; a color in a render does not prove it was offered for every phone or market.
Which Pixel 10 design suits which buyer?
- Pixel 10: The compact 6.3-inch option for someone who wants the family’s design and a 5× telephoto at the lowest model tier. Its camera system, display and zoom ceiling are below the Pro models’.
- Pixel 10 Pro: The compact choice for buyers who want the Pro cameras, higher-end display and 16GB RAM without the XL’s size and weight. Its appearance is close to the standard Pixel 10, so the upgrade is chiefly in the hardware rather than a dramatic exterior change.
- Pixel 10 Pro XL: For those who prioritize a 6.8-inch screen, larger battery and faster wired charging alongside Pro cameras. Its 232g weight and larger body make one-handed use harder.
All three models use Google’s Tensor G5; the standard Pixel 10 has 12GB RAM, while the Pro models have 16GB. Google also introduced Qi2 magnetic charging through Pixelsnap. Google’s CPU and TPU performance comparisons are company claims, not independent benchmark results; see its Tensor G5 explanation. These details help explain why a familiar exterior can accompany meaningful changes inside, but they were not facts that the original CAD renders could prove.
Verdict: an accurate leak, not a radical redesign
The March 2025 CAD renders correctly pointed to an evolutionary Pixel 10 design: a Pixel 9-like silhouette, a horizontal camera bar and distinct standard, Pro and XL sizes. Their most important functional clue was the standard Pixel 10’s added telephoto camera, which Google later confirmed. Treat the renders as a strong guide to shape and layout—not as proof of final finishes, exact camera performance or market-specific availability.
