Open Source Summit Japan 2025 was a completed, in-person Linux Foundation conference held December 8–10, 2025, in Tokyo. The event has ended, but its official archive still provides the schedule, selected presentation materials and links to Linux Foundation recordings.

What the conference covered
Open Source Summit Japan was not a single-product trade show. It brought developers, maintainers, operators, community leaders and open-source program professionals together around software development, collaboration, production infrastructure and project sustainability. The program connected kernel and operating-system work with cloud platforms, embedded devices, automotive software, safety engineering and organizational governance.
Official tracks
The event archive lists these tracks:
- Automotive Linux Summit: Linux and open-source software for vehicles and software-defined-car programs.
- Cloud & Containers: Container platforms, cloud-native infrastructure and related project engineering.
- Linux: Kernel, operating-system and systems development.
- Open Source Leadership: Community strategy, collaboration and sustainable project leadership.
- Operations Management: DevOps, SRE, infrastructure operations and administration.
- OSPOCon: Open-source program-office practices, policy, compliance and governance.
- Safety-Critical Software: Engineering and assurance for systems where failure has serious consequences.
- Zephyr: Embedded and real-time development using the Zephyr project.
“Automotive Linux Summit” appears in the archive’s track presentation, while Linux Foundation announcements also describe it as a related summit in the same Tokyo program. Readers should therefore use the final schedule to identify which conference owned a particular session.
CFP topics versus the final program
The call for proposals invited talks on Linux, cloud and containers, operations, OSPOs, embedded and real-time systems, Zephyr, automotive Linux, functional safety, compliance and relevant AI or machine-learning work. Those were submission themes, not a guarantee that every subject became an accepted session. The published schedule is the authoritative source for titles, speakers, rooms and times.

The CFP closed August 4, 2025, notifications were due September 18, and the schedule was announced September 23.
Keynote speakers
A Linux Foundation Japan announcement named six keynote speakers for the combined Tokyo program:
- Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux and Git
- Dirk Hohndel, Head of the Open Source Program Office at Verizon
- Stefania Druga, research scientist at Sakana AI
- Ramon Roche, General Manager of the Dronecode Foundation
- Kazuo Tsubouchi, Executive Chief Engineer at Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
- Hilary Carter, SVP of Research at the Linux Foundation

How the neighboring events fit together
AI_dev: Open Source GenAI & ML Summit Japan
AI_dev ran in the same December 8–10 Tokyo program but had its own focus on open-source generative AI, machine learning and related research. AI_dev sessions should not automatically be labeled Open Source Summit Japan talks.
Automotive Linux Summit
Automotive Linux Summit shared the venue and dates and focused on automotive software. It is represented alongside the main summit in the archive and sponsorship materials, but its sessions retain a distinct automotive identity.
OpenSearchCon Japan
OpenSearchCon Japan was a separate, one-day in-person event on December 11, 2025. It focused on search, observability, security and the OpenSearch community, making it a follow-on event rather than an Open Source Summit Japan track.
Finding the schedule, slides and videos
Start with the archived event page and its “View the Schedule” link. Use the schedule to filter by track and check each session’s speaker, employer, date, JST time, room and session type. Where speakers uploaded materials, the schedule links to presentation files. The archive also directs visitors to Linux Foundation YouTube recordings. Availability varies: do not assume every session has both a video and slides.

Venue and participation
The sponsor guide identifies the venue as Toranomon Hills Mori Tower 5F, 1-23-3 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo 105-6305. Linux Foundation Japan referred to the same broader complex as Toranomon Hills Forum. The conference was designed for in-person participation. Because the 2025 edition is over, there is no current 2025 registration to complete and no reliable basis for quoting a ticket price.
Sponsors and industry involvement
Linux Foundation Japan’s schedule announcement named sponsors including Google, Fujitsu, Honda Motor, OpenSearch, Automattic, Amazon Web Services, ClickHouse, Cybertrust, Hitachi, LINE Yahoo, Microsoft and Renesas Electronics. Other announcements show a different sponsor grouping, so these names should be treated as attributed announcement lists rather than a definitive tier table. Sponsorship indicates industry participation; it is not evidence that sponsors controlled technical conclusions.
What comes next
The official site now lists Open Source Summit Japan 2026 for December 7–9, 2026, in Tokyo. Its dates and future program should not be substituted for facts about the completed 2025 edition.

Can I still register for the 2025 summit?
No. The 2025 conference has ended. The archive is useful for schedules, slides and recording links, while the live site promotes the 2026 edition.
Were AI_dev and Automotive Linux Summit the same conference?
They were related, co-located Linux Foundation events in the same December 8–10 Tokyo program, but each had a distinct topical identity and schedule.
