The rumored OnePlus Open 2 could be a major hardware upgrade, with larger displays, a 6,000mAh battery, 80W charging, and three 50-megapixel rear cameras. However, none of those specifications has been officially confirmed. More importantly, leak reports claim OnePlus halted the global launch, while the company says it is ending product rollouts in North America and Europe. A U.S. release therefore appears especially unlikely.
Latest OnePlus Open 2 specifications reportedly leaked
The newest reports, published in January 2026, describe a foldable that would be larger and more powerful than the original OnePlus Open. These details remain unconfirmed and should not be treated as a final specification sheet.

These specifications come from leak reporting rather than OnePlus. The latest report also says the global launch was canceled, while a separate report describes the project as having reached an advanced testing stage before the alleged decision to drop it. 9to5Google and Android Central both attribute the cancellation information to leak sources.

Why the leaked specifications conflict
Not all OnePlus Open 2 rumors appear to describe the same device. Earlier reports connected the phone with Oppo’s Find N5 and suggested a slimmer foldable, Snapdragon 8 Elite-class hardware, a battery in the roughly 5,700mAh-to-6,000mAh range, wireless charging, and a possible 2025 launch.

Later reports shifted to a more ambitious 2026 device with larger displays, 165Hz refresh rates, 80W charging, and a newer Snapdragon platform. Those earlier Find N5-based reports should not be merged with the newer claims as though they were one confirmed design. A relationship between OnePlus and Oppo also does not guarantee identical software, cameras, connectivity, warranty coverage, or launch markets.

How significant would the rumored upgrades be?
A 6,000mAh battery
If accurate, a 6,000mAh battery would be a substantial increase over the original Open’s official 4,805mAh equivalent capacity. That could improve endurance, but battery life would also depend on the processor, modem, display brightness, resolution, refresh-rate behavior, and thermal management.

A larger battery does not automatically guarantee longer runtime. An 8.1-inch high-resolution screen running at a high refresh rate could consume considerably more power, particularly if 165Hz is not adaptive.

165Hz displays
A 165Hz refresh rate could make scrolling, animations, and supported games look smoother than on a 120Hz panel. In everyday use, however, a well-tuned adaptive 120Hz LTPO display may offer a better balance between fluidity and battery life.
OnePlus would need to clarify whether 165Hz is available on both screens, whether it is an adaptive maximum, which apps and games support it, and how much it affects endurance. The leak does not establish any of those details.
80W wired charging
The rumored 80W charging would be faster than the original Open’s official 67W charging. It is not possible to state a reliable charging time without an official charger, regional configuration, battery rating, and test results. Charging speed can also vary with temperature, cable, charger availability, and battery condition.
Three 50MP rear cameras
Three 50MP sensors would be an interesting hardware setup, but megapixel counts do not prove camera quality. Important unanswered questions include the main sensor size, telephoto focal length, optical stabilization, whether the zoom camera uses a periscope design, whether the ultrawide camera has autofocus, and the phone’s video limitations.

Camera tuning, image processing, Hasselblad involvement, and camera behavior while the phone is partially folded could matter more than the headline resolution.
16GB RAM and 1TB storage
A 16GB RAM option would suit heavy multitasking, while 1TB of storage would appeal to users who record large amounts of 4K video or use a foldable as a productivity computer. The 1TB claim remains speculative and would likely carry a significant price premium if it reaches retail.
What is officially confirmed?
OnePlus has not officially confirmed the Open 2’s existence, specifications, price, or launch date. The company’s confirmed foldable remains the original OnePlus Open, announced globally on October 19, 2023.

OnePlus lists the original model’s launch price as $1,699.99, although its U.S. buy page currently says the product is temporarily unavailable in the region. That price does not predict the Open 2’s price.

Is the OnePlus Open 2 canceled?
The careful answer is that cancellation has been reported but not officially confirmed. Tipster claims could refer to several different situations:
- A canceled 2026 global launch.
- A canceled prototype or current version of the device.
- A delay or redesign.
- A canceled OnePlus-branded model while a related Oppo foldable continues.
It is therefore inaccurate to state simply that “OnePlus canceled the Open 2.” The defensible wording is that reports suggest OnePlus halted or canceled a global launch, while OnePlus has not published an official Open 2 launch or cancellation notice. TechRadar has also reported on the cancellation claim.

No U.S. launch is confirmed, and a North American release now appears especially unlikely. In an August 2026 notice, OnePlus said it had decided to conclude product rollouts in Europe and North America while continuing support for existing devices. The notice does not specifically name the Open 2 and does not prove that the model was canceled, but it significantly weakens the case for a new U.S.-sold OnePlus foldable.

A phone released in China, India, or another market would not automatically be a U.S. product. Imported units may use different software, lack full U.S. carrier-band support, provide ColorOS instead of the expected OxygenOS experience, or have uncertain access to Google services, Android Auto, banking apps, notifications, repairs, and warranty support.
Check OnePlus’ regional business-adjustment notice for the company’s current position. Existing-device support should not be interpreted as confirmation of a new North American launch.
Should you wait for the OnePlus Open 2?
Wait only if uncertainty is acceptable
Waiting makes sense only if you do not need a foldable soon and are comfortable with the possibility that the rumored phone never launches, launches only in selected markets, or arrives with different specifications.

The original Open remains the practical choice for someone who specifically wants OnePlus’ Open Canvas multitasking system today. It is more compelling at a substantial discount than at its original $1,699.99 price, but buyers should verify that the unit is genuine, region-compatible, and covered by usable warranty support.
Choose another established foldable for immediate U.S. support
Readers who need carrier compatibility, financing, trade-ins, repairs, and a clear warranty should consider an established U.S.-sold foldable instead. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line generally offers the broadest U.S. foldable ecosystem. Google’s Pixel Fold line may appeal to buyers who prioritize Google software and computational photography. Neither is a direct guarantee of the same hardware or multitasking approach as OnePlus.
Important warnings for prospective buyers
- Do not combine rumor generations: Find N5-related specifications and later 2026 claims may describe different devices.
- Do not equate Oppo and OnePlus: Similar hardware does not ensure identical software, cameras, bands, storage, warranty, or markets.
- Check battery terminology: A reported 6,000mAh figure could refer to typical capacity rather than official rated capacity.
- Do not assume the chipset name is final: Snapdragon branding and platform names can change before launch.
- Ignore speculative prices and dates: Unofficial listings cannot establish a $1,799 price or a specific release month.
- Avoid unofficial preorders: Fake product pages often invent prices, launch dates, and specifications for unreleased phones.
- Expect accessory changes: Cases, protectors, styluses, and chargers for the original Open may not fit a successor.
Bottom line
The OnePlus Open 2 leak describes an appealing foldable: larger screens, a potentially class-leading battery, faster charging, a newer flagship processor, and a high-resolution camera system. But the hardware remains rumor, the cancellation reports are not official, and OnePlus’ North American and European rollout decision makes a U.S. launch doubtful. Treat the Open 2 as an uncertain future device—not a confirmed upgrade—and buy the original Open or another established foldable only if it meets your regional support and warranty requirements today.
