OnePlus announced a Sapphire Blue version of the Buds Pro 3 and software features including Steady Connect and AI Translation alongside the OnePlus 13 series in January 2025. This is a color refresh and software update—not a new Buds Pro 3 generation. The U.S. product page still lists Sapphire Blue, but the announcement is not a new August 2026 launch.
What changed: a new finish and phone-linked features
The Buds Pro 3 originally came in Midnight Opus and Lunar Radiance. OnePlus added Sapphire Blue, a finish intended to complement the blue design of the OnePlus 13 series. OnePlus staff announced availability from January 10, 2025; current stock can vary by region and retailer. The U.S. product page lists all three colors.
The new finish does not indicate different earbud hardware. The update announced at the same time centered on two software features: Steady Connect, for improved Bluetooth reliability and range with compatible OnePlus phones, and AI Translation, a phone-assisted translation experience for select OnePlus devices. OnePlus has not published a current firmware build number or a universal rollout schedule in the cited material.

Steady Connect is intended to make the Bluetooth link more reliable in places with crowded or noisy wireless signals, such as airports, railway stations, gyms, and dense urban areas. It may help where a connection is prone to dropouts, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted audio; performance depends on the phone, surroundings, and other conditions.

OnePlus advertises a range of up to 360 meters in open areas in India under its stated testing conditions. Do not treat that as an everyday indoor range or a U.S. performance promise. The U.S. specifications page separately lists a 10-meter effective Bluetooth distance—a conventional specification under different conditions. The figures are not directly comparable. OnePlus says Steady Connect results come from internal testing and actual performance varies.
AI Translation needs a compatible OnePlus phone
AI Translation is designed for in-person conversation: the wearer hears a preferred language through the earbuds while the other person can view translated text on the phone. It is a phone-assisted feature, not translation performed independently by the earbuds.
OnePlus associates the feature with select phones, including the OnePlus 13 series. Its current product-page notes specify a device running OxygenOS 15.0.1 or later. Availability may also depend on the phone model, language, region, and software configuration. The announcement does not establish that the same experience works on every Android phone or iPhone.

What stays the same
The Sapphire Blue Buds Pro 3 retain the existing product platform. These are OnePlus’s specifications and claims, not independent test results:

Battery life varies with codec, volume, ANC, calls, and other use. IP55 is not a waterproof rating, and the charging case should not be assumed to have the same protection. OnePlus warns that liquid or dust damage is not covered under warranty. The cited update does not establish a new acoustic design or a sound-quality upgrade.

- Charge the earbuds and case, then pair the Buds Pro 3 with your phone.
- On a OnePlus phone, open the connected earbuds’ Bluetooth or Earbuds Function controls and look for a firmware or OTA update. Menu names can differ by phone and OxygenOS version.
- On other supported Android phones, check for updates and settings in the latest HeyMelody app from Google Play.
- Keep the earbuds near the phone during installation, avoid interrupting power or closing the update app, and reconnect when the update completes.
If no update appears, make sure both earbuds are seated in the charged case, keep the case open nearby, update the Wireless Earphones or HeyMelody app, and toggle Bluetooth off and on. If needed, forget and re-pair the earbuds or restart the phone. For AI Translation, check that the phone meets the OxygenOS requirement. Feature access may differ on a non-OnePlus device; if one earbud will not update or connect, reset and re-pair it using the current user manual or contact OnePlus support. OnePlus’s documentation cited here does not confirm a single firmware version or a universal regional rollout.

Should you choose Sapphire Blue?
For a new buyer, Sapphire Blue is chiefly a color choice; the practical software benefits depend more on phone compatibility than on the finish. Existing Buds Pro 3 owners have no reason to replace working earbuds solely for the new color. OnePlus 13-series owners are the clearest audience for the phone-integrated features, while anyone considering AI Translation should first check their exact device and software support.
iPhone and other Android users should confirm which controls and features are available to them before buying. OnePlus says Hi-Res is not supported on iOS, and its most integrated features are aimed at compatible OnePlus phones. The available evidence supports a color and connectivity/software refresh, not a new generation or a broad sound redesign.
