OnePlus began rolling out stable OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15, to the OnePlus 12 on November 6, 2024—before Samsung began its stable Android 15 rollout. That was a win in the race to update a flagship first, not proof that OnePlus updated every phone sooner or offers better long-term support. Google Pixel phones had already received Android 15.
The announcement is a historical milestone, not a current update alert. OnePlus named India, North America, Europe and global variants, but the release went out in batches; an eligible owner might not have seen it immediately.
What OnePlus released—and when
OnePlus announced the stable OxygenOS 15 rollout for the OnePlus 12 on November 6, 2024, a week earlier than it had anticipated. OxygenOS is OnePlus’s software layer; this release was built on Android 15. The company’s official announcement listed the following initial regional builds:

These identifiers are useful for checking a device’s software version, but they are not interchangeable firmware packages. Use the build intended for your phone’s model and region; manually installing a different region’s firmware can cause compatibility, carrier, warranty, stability or future-update problems.

What “beat Samsung” means
The comparison is about the first stable Android 15 rollout from a major Android phone maker outside Google’s Pixel line. Pixels received Android 15 earlier, so OnePlus was not first overall. The contemporaneous Droid Life report described OnePlus as ahead of Samsung in this stable-release race.
It was also a comparison of rollout starts, not a guarantee that every OnePlus 12 owner got the update before every Samsung owner. Nor does one early release establish which manufacturer provides longer support, more reliable patches, fewer bugs or better features across its full phone lineup.
Which OnePlus phones were included?
The first stable rollout covered the OnePlus 12. It did not mean that the OnePlus 12R, older OnePlus phones or the entire OnePlus range were included in the same release. Other models had their own update schedules. The model and regional software branch matter as much as the brand name.

What OxygenOS 15 changed on the OnePlus 12
The changelog combined Android 15 foundations with OnePlus-specific OxygenOS changes. Many of the most visible items were interface or manufacturer features, not changes that would appear identically on every Android 15 phone.
- Interface and customization: refreshed icons and visual styling, refined animations and rendering, Flux themes, new wallpapers, clock styles, widgets and app icons, plus expanded Always-On Display, lock-screen and home-screen options. Fluid Cloud behavior was updated, with integrations that can vary by region and app availability.
- Multitasking and controls: floating-window gestures, resizable split-screen windows, and the option to separate the notification shade from Quick Settings.
- Battery: an 80% charging limit and battery-protection reminders.
- Privacy and safety: changes to Private Safe organization, a shortcut for hidden apps, and a unified safety hub.
- Audio and connectivity: Holo Audio improvements for calls and meetings, and improved Wi-Fi network transitions.
- Small extras: the calculator displays an Easter egg when you enter
1+=.
Feature availability can differ by country, language, carrier, model and firmware branch. The launch changelog should not be read as a promise that every service integration or AI feature would be present for every owner immediately.
How to check for the update
- Open Settings and find the system or software-update section. On the OnePlus 12, the route may appear as System & updates > Software update; labels can vary by software revision and region.
- Check for an available update and confirm that the device is the OnePlus 12 on the appropriate regional branch.
- Before installing, connect to reliable Wi-Fi, make sure there is enough free storage and battery, and back up important data.
If no update appears, that alone does not show the phone is ineligible. OnePlus described a staged rollout, not simultaneous delivery to every device. Some North American owners reported waiting after the regional rollout was announced in the OnePlus community discussion.

If the update is missing—or causes a problem
Confirm the model number and region, restart the phone, check again later over a reliable connection and free up storage if necessary. Avoid using a package for another region or unlocking the bootloader simply to force an update: cross-flashing can affect carrier functions, warranty eligibility, data and future over-the-air updates. If a device remains outside the rollout well after its expected window, contact OnePlus support.
“Stable” distinguishes the release from a beta; it does not mean bug-free. Community members reported issues including calling problems on AT&T and delayed or missing AI features. Those are individual reports, not evidence that every device had the same defect. After a major update, watch for carrier or 5G compatibility, app problems, changed notification controls, regional feature gaps and unusual battery drain during the first few days. If calling or another essential function stops working, contact the carrier or OnePlus support rather than assuming the problem affects all users.
What this says about choosing a phone
Fast access to a major Android release is useful, but this one milestone is not a complete support comparison. Buyers should also compare each model’s promised Android-version upgrades and security-update period, patch cadence, carrier and regional consistency, feature availability and how the manufacturer handles problems. Hardware, price, repair access and ecosystem fit matter too.
For a buyer choosing between OnePlus and Samsung, the defensible takeaway is narrow: in November 2024, the OnePlus 12 got the first stable Android 15 rollout ahead of Samsung. It does not settle which brand is the better purchase. Check current support commitments for the specific models you are considering, and make sure regional and carrier features meet your needs.
