One UI 8 Watch is now best understood as a 2025 launch and rollout story, not a new August 2026 beta. Samsung announced the beta on June 16, 2025, initially for Galaxy Watch5 and newer models in the United States and South Korea. It introduced four headline wellness tools—Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach and Antioxidant Index—but they do not work on every Galaxy Watch or every Android phone.
The features are designed to encourage healthier habits, not diagnose illness. Eligibility depends on your watch model, Android version, Samsung Health version, Samsung account, market and, for some regulated functions, whether you use a Samsung Galaxy phone.
The short answer
Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch health update added four main wellness features:
Recommended Free Tools
- Bedtime Guidance: recommends a target bedtime using sleep-pressure and circadian-rhythm analysis.
- Vascular Load: estimates cardiovascular-system strain during sleep.
- Running Coach: creates a training programme after assessing your running level.
- Antioxidant Index: estimates carotenoid levels in the skin through the watch’s BioActive Sensor.
Samsung presents these as tools for personal reference and habit-building. A score or recommendation is not a medical diagnosis, a blood-pressure reading or proof that a specific food or workout improved your health. Samsung’s announcement also makes clear that availability varies by market, device, carrier and paired smartphone.

- Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
- Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
What is One UI 8 Watch?
One UI 8 Watch is Samsung’s watch software layer associated with the Galaxy Watch8 generation and subsequent updates for compatible earlier watches. It combines Samsung Health insights with a redesigned glanceable interface, Multi-Info Tiles, the Now Bar and Wear OS functionality on supported Galaxy Watch models.
It should not automatically be described as “Android 16 for watches”. One UI Watch and the underlying Wear OS version are related but distinct software layers.
Feature eligibility at a glance
| Feature | Phone and app requirements | Watch limitation | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedtime Guidance | Android 11 or later; Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later | Compatible Galaxy Watch sleep data | Uses three days of sleep analysis to recommend a target bedtime |
| Vascular Load | Android 10 or later; Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later | Galaxy Watch Ultra or a later released Galaxy Watch series; market restrictions apply | Estimates vascular-system stress during sleep |
| Running Coach | Android 10 or later; Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later | Galaxy Watch7 series or a later released Galaxy Watch series | Builds guidance after a running-level test |
| Antioxidant Index | Android 10 or later; Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later | Galaxy Watch Ultra or a later released Galaxy Watch series; market restrictions apply | Estimates skin carotenoid levels using the BioActive Sensor |
All four require a Samsung account. “Compatible with Android” does not mean that every feature works with every Android phone.
What each feature means in ordinary use
Bedtime Guidance
Bedtime Guidance analyses three days of sleep data, including sleep pressure and circadian rhythm, then recommends when to go to bed. In practice, it might encourage you to move bedtime earlier or keep a more consistent schedule.
This is a recommendation engine, not a sleep-clinic assessment. The watch needs usable overnight data, so people who wear it inconsistently—or remove it for most nights—may receive limited or delayed guidance. It is not intended to diagnose or treat a sleep disorder.
Vascular Load
Vascular Load is intended to show how much strain Samsung estimates the cardiovascular system experiences during sleep. Samsung requires the watch to be worn while sleeping for at least three days within the previous 14 days.
Use it, if available, as a personal trend indicator. It is not a blood-pressure measurement, and a high or low result does not establish a cardiovascular condition. Samsung identifies it as a Labs feature that could be previewed before official launch, and limits it to the Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series, subject to market and device restrictions.

Running Coach requires a running-level test before it creates a programme. The resulting guidance is intended to help users progress from their assessed level instead of selecting arbitrary workouts.

“Personalised” does not mean clinically individualised. The usefulness of the plan depends on accurate activity data, and it should not replace medical clearance, a qualified coach or a rehabilitation plan for someone with an injury or health condition.
Antioxidant Index
Antioxidant Index estimates carotenoid levels stored in the skin using the watch’s BioActive Sensor. Samsung says a reading takes about five seconds: place a finger on the sensor on the back of the watch, with the thumb recommended for the most accurate result.
The precise claim matters. This is an estimate of skin carotenoid levels, not a measurement of your body’s overall antioxidant status. It does not prove that a particular food prevented ageing or improved health. Uneven skin texture and repeated readings can affect accuracy, so inconsistent results should not be treated as a nutritional diagnosis.

The most sensible use is as a motivational prompt—for example, encouraging more carotenoid-rich fruit and vegetables—not as a reason to manage medication, treatment or a medical condition.
Who could join the One UI 8 Watch beta?
Samsung’s original eligibility announcement covered users in South Korea and the United States with a Galaxy Watch5 series or later released Galaxy Watch series. That wording described potential eligibility, not guaranteed access for every owner. Availability could vary by market, carrier, watch model and paired smartphone.
The beta announcement was made on June 16, 2025. Samsung later announced One UI 8 Watch availability for the Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 22, 2025. Check Samsung’s official beta information and Samsung Members notices for the release applicable to your country and model.
What are the risks of installing beta software?
A watch beta is experimental firmware. Possible problems include reduced battery life, unstable workout or sleep tracking, sensor anomalies, notification failures, connectivity issues and incompatibility with apps.

- You own an eligible watch and live in a supported market.
- You are comfortable troubleshooting unstable software.
- You mainly want to experiment with sleep, fitness or nutrition insights.
- You do not depend on the watch for essential medical alerts.
- You rely on the watch overnight for sleep monitoring.
- You depend on ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm alerts, notifications or connectivity.
- The watch is needed for work, travel or personal safety.
- You have only one wearable and cannot easily recover from a failed update.
Do not assume there is a universal rollback process. The correct recovery path depends on the country, model and Samsung Members release; verify it before enrolling rather than relying on an unconfirmed procedure.

Many Samsung Health wellness features support Android phones broadly, subject to the stated version and app requirements. Samsung Health Monitor’s regulated or medical-oriented functions can have stricter rules.
For example, Samsung’s U.S. blood-pressure monitoring feature requires a compatible Galaxy Watch and Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later. It also requires calibration with an upper-arm cuff every 28 days and is region restricted. The watch’s result remains an estimate and is not a substitute for a validated home monitor or medical advice. See Samsung’s blood-pressure monitoring information for the applicable requirements.
Sleep Apnea, ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications are separate features. They should not be confused with the four headline One UI 8 Watch wellness tools.
What to check if a feature is missing
- Identify the watch model. Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index are not universal Galaxy Watch features; Running Coach also has a narrower hardware requirement.
- Update the paired phone. Check that Android meets the feature-specific minimum.
- Update Samsung Health. The published requirements specify version 6.30.2 or later.
- Confirm your Samsung account and that the watch is paired correctly.
- Check market and carrier restrictions. Imported devices and travel can affect Samsung Health Monitor availability.
- Allow time for data collection. Bedtime Guidance needs three days of sleep analysis, while Vascular Load needs three nights within the previous 14 days.
- Complete the running-level test before looking for Running Coach plans.
- For Antioxidant Index, clean the sensor, use the recommended finger position and avoid treating repeated inconsistent readings as a health result.
Should you buy a watch for these features?
Do not buy a Galaxy Watch in 2026 solely because of a feature first announced in a 2025 beta. Choose based on the wider Samsung Health ecosystem, hardware, support horizon, phone compatibility and the specific features you can actually use.
Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet listed the Galaxy Watch8 Bluetooth models from $349.99, Watch8 Classic from $499.99, Watch7 Bluetooth models from $249.99 and Galaxy Watch Ultra from $649.99; prices are subject to change. Samsung’s U.S. offers page accessed in August 2026 highlighted the newer Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 while also listing Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch7 and Watch Ultra trade-in offers.
- Galaxy Watch8: a reasonable choice if discounted and you want Samsung Health and One UI Watch without specifically requiring Ultra-only metrics. See the official product page.
- Galaxy Watch8 Classic: suited to buyers who value its traditional watch design as much as the health platform.
- Galaxy Watch Ultra: the relevant older option for buyers specifically interested in the Ultra-associated Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index features, as well as rugged outdoor hardware. Samsung’s rollout announcement is here.
- Galaxy Watch9 or Watch Ultra2: the more forward-looking choice if you want current Samsung hardware and longer expected software support. Check Samsung’s current offers page, Watch9 page and Ultra2 page for current availability and pricing.
- Google Pixel Watch 4: an alternative for Android users invested in Google services, Fitbit and Gemini rather than Samsung-exclusive features. Google lists a starting price of $349.99, with some coaching features associated with a Google Health Premium membership. See the official product page.
Bottom line
One UI 8 Watch made Samsung’s health platform more proactive, but its headline features are best viewed as data-dependent wellness prompts. Bedtime Guidance and Running Coach have broader potential compatibility, while Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index are restricted to newer or Ultra-class hardware. Check the exact watch, phone, app version and market before expecting a feature to appear—and never use these scores as a substitute for clinical care.
