One UI 5 is Samsung’s Android 13-based software update. Its public beta began on August 8, 2022, and the stable rollout started with the Galaxy S22 series in late 2022. Samsung expanded it by device and market over the following months, so there was no single date—or one device list—that applied worldwide.

One UI 5 is now a legacy release: eligible Galaxy devices may have moved on to One UI 5.1 or a later version. Check your phone or tablet’s installed software before looking for the original update.

What is One UI 5?

One UI is Samsung’s interface and software layer for Galaxy devices. One UI 5 is based on Android 13 and brought changes to personalization, privacy and security controls, accessibility, and cross-device features. Samsung highlighted expanded color-palette choices and emergency-contact functionality, among other features; availability can vary by device and software configuration. Samsung’s One UI 5 feature overview describes the Android 13 connection and selected features.

One UI 5, One UI 5.1, and One UI 5.1.1 are distinct interface versions. Security patches are separate updates and do not, by themselves, establish that a device received a major Android upgrade.

When was One UI 5 released?

Date or period What happened
August 8, 2022 Samsung opened the public beta for Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra in the United States, Germany, and South Korea, with other regions planned. Samsung’s beta announcement
October–November 2022 Regional schedules placed the Galaxy S22 family among the first stable releases. Some markets listed October and others November, so neither month is a universal worldwide launch date. Samsung Members schedule and Samsung EU Community schedule
November–December 2022 The rollout broadened to more flagship phones, foldables, tablets, and selected midrange models, with timing dependent on market and model.
2023 Additional models and carrier variants continued receiving Android 13/One UI 5 firmware. Samsung’s firmware record for one Galaxy A model, for example, shows why individual model histories can extend beyond the first wave: SM-A716U firmware notifications.
February 15, 2023 Samsung announced the One UI 5.1 rollout, the next feature revision, for newer and existing devices. Samsung’s One UI 5.1 announcement

The practical answer is that One UI 5 entered beta in August 2022 and began stable distribution with the Galaxy S22 family later that year. The arrival date for any other Galaxy depended on its exact model, country, carrier, and firmware variant.

Which Galaxy devices were eligible?

The following is a representative consolidation of models included in Samsung regional schedules, not a guarantee for every variant or market. A schedule could change, and a retail family name may cover different LTE/5G, regional, or carrier versions. Check the exact model against Samsung’s local support information before treating the list as definitive. Samsung Latin America’s schedule is one regional example; it should not be read as a US or worldwide schedule.

How to check your One UI and Android versions

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap About phone or About tablet to identify the device. Menu wording and the model-number location can vary slightly by software version.
  3. Open Settings → About phone or About tablet → Software information.
  4. Read the One UI version, Android version, Android security patch level, and Build number. A later One UI version means the original One UI 5 update may no longer appear as a separate offer.

To check for an available update, open Settings → Software update → Download and install. If one is offered, review its version details and release notes. Use Wi-Fi and make sure the device has sufficient charge and storage before installing. Labels can vary slightly by carrier and device.

Why might One UI 5 not appear?

A device can be eligible in principle yet lack an update offer on a particular day. Eligibility, a planned rollout, carrier availability, and installation on an individual device are separate stages. Common reasons include:

  • Different rollout timing: Samsung released firmware in waves, and country or carrier schedules did not necessarily match.
  • Variant mismatch: Two phones sold under the same family name may have different model numbers, LTE/5G support, firmware, or regional configurations.
  • Update already installed: The device may be on One UI 5.1 or a later release rather than showing One UI 5 as a new update.
  • Earlier updates pending: Install any offered updates and restart, then check again.
  • Practical installation limits: Low storage or battery can prevent downloading or installing an offered update.
  • Carrier or management restrictions: A carrier-branded device may follow its own certification schedule; an employer-managed device may have update controls.
  • Modified software or configuration: An altered region/CSC, unlocked bootloader, or other software modification can affect update delivery.
  • Eligibility differences: A similar model receiving Android 13 does not prove that every regional or carrier variant was included.

What to try

  1. Confirm the exact model number under Settings → About phone/tablet.
  2. Check Settings → Software update → Download and install, then install pending updates and restart if appropriate.
  3. Check Samsung’s support schedule or model-specific firmware history for the correct country and variant. Samsung’s firmware notification pages illustrate how a device’s update history is listed.
  4. If the device is carrier-branded, check with the carrier about its release schedule.
  5. Samsung Smart Switch on a compatible computer is an optional official update route; it is not a guaranteed workaround when an update is unavailable over the air.
  6. Back up important data before a major update or recovery operation. Avoid firmware from unverified sites; manually flashing the wrong package can damage software or cause data loss.

A factory reset is not a reliable way to make an update appear: availability is determined by the device’s firmware and rollout, not by wiping personal data.

One UI 5 and One UI 5.1: what is the difference?

One UI 5 is the Android 13-era release; One UI 5.1 is a later feature revision announced on February 15, 2023. Samsung began distributing 5.1 to the Galaxy S23 series and other eligible devices. Samsung’s announcement covers that rollout. A One UI 5 device was not automatically guaranteed to receive 5.1: eligibility still depended on the model and software support plan. Check the installed Android and One UI versions on the device rather than inferring one from the other.
