OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2 was an official pre-release build published on January 16, 2026. It fixed several problems in the new Audio Mixer and other 32.1 features, but it is no longer the right choice for most users: stable OBS 32.1.0 arrived on March 11, 2026, and OBS Studio 32.2.1 was listed as the latest stable release on July 24, 2026.
Beta 2 remains useful for testers, plugin developers, Linux PipeWire users, and anyone investigating the 32.1 Audio Mixer. Production streamers and beginners should use the applicable stable release instead.
What is OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2?
OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2 is the second beta in the OBS 32.1 development cycle. It is a versioned pre-release of the free, open-source OBS Studio application—not a separate product or a stable edition.

What Beta 2 specifically fixed
According to the release notes, Beta 2 fixed these issues:
- Audio Mixer buttons disappearing after changing the font size.
- Missing Audio Mixer tooltips.
- Incorrect sizing of dialogs opened from the Audio Mixer with the Classic theme.
- Audio Mixer appearance not updating reliably after a theme change.
- Missing resolution and aspect-ratio information in PipeWire Camera source descriptions.
- OBS becoming unable to change profiles or video settings.
- Transitions becoming locked.
These are Beta 2 fixes, not all-new features introduced by this build. The release notes describe the reported fixes; they should not be read as an independent compatibility guarantee for every system or plugin.

Major changes in the OBS 32.1 beta cycle
Redesigned Audio Mixer
The new Audio Mixer was the most visible 32.1 change. It added or changed:
- Horizontal and vertical mixer layouts.
- A toolbar control for swapping layouts.
- A control for toggling audio monitoring.
- Source previews while using Studio Mode.
- Pinned audio sources.
- Persistent display of global audio sources.
- The option to show hidden sources.
- The ability to display sources that are not in the active scene.
Beta 2 mainly repaired problems in this redesigned mixer rather than replacing the Beta 1 design with an entirely different mixer.
New Add Source dialog
The beta cycle included a redesigned Add Source dialog. However, release candidate 1 later removed that dialog because it was not considered ready for the final release. Therefore, Beta 2 coverage should describe it as a beta-cycle feature, not as a feature guaranteed to ship unchanged.

WebRTC Simulcast
OBS 32.1 added WebRTC Simulcast support. Simulcast can send multiple encoded quality or resolution variants for compatible WebRTC workflows, allowing a receiving system to select an appropriate stream.
This does not automatically improve every Twitch, YouTube, or conventional RTMP broadcast. The benefit depends on the receiving service, protocol path, encoder configuration, and the rest of the workflow.
More scene-item undo and redo actions
Undo and redo support was expanded for changes to:
- Scale filtering.
- Blending mode.
- Blending method.
- Deinterlacing mode.
- Deinterlacing field order.
Other 32.1 changes
- “Source” was removed from source names.
- The Edit Transform dialog was updated.
- Copying a scene item was changed to copy all properties.
- Dock animations were disabled.
- The transition preview button moved to the button box.
- Default dock positions were rearranged.
- Media Source playback-slider updates became more frequent.
- The Light theme Audio Mixer received a palette.
- Default bitrates changed to 6,000 kbps.
The 6,000-kbps change is a default setting, not a universal streaming recommendation. An appropriate bitrate still depends on the platform, resolution, frame rate, upload bandwidth, encoder, and account limitations.
Other fixes listed for the 32.1 beta
The 32.1 release notes also list fixes involving:
- Decimal values appearing in projector resolutions.
- Preview and Program size or position synchronization.
- Saving behavior for frontend canvas scenes and groups.
- NAL types for HEVC caption and BPM SEIs.
- Video scaling in multivideo encoder scenarios.
- Chapter-marker times when file splitting was enabled.
- Black recording thumbnails.
- Banding or splotchy output from NVIDIA Blur and Background Blur.
- macOS Screen Capture selecting an item for capture by default.
- PipeWire capture problems involving devices that do not require a frame rate.
PipeWire-related items are Linux-specific, while the Screen Capture item is macOS-specific. A fix on one platform should not be generalized to every OBS installation.
When was Beta 2 released?
The official GitHub release chronology places OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2 on January 16, 2026. Stable OBS 32.1.0 followed on March 11, 2026, with later 32.1 updates. As of August 16, 2026, the official release listing showed OBS Studio 32.2.1, released July 24, 2026, as the newer stable alternative.
For that reason, Beta 2 should now be treated as a historical testing build rather than a current download recommendation. Check the official release chronology for versions released after that date.
How to download OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2
Use the exact 32.1.0-beta2 GitHub tag. Do not rely on a generic download link if you specifically need this historical build.
The release included official assets for:
- Windows x64 installer.
- Windows x64 ZIP package.
- Windows ARM64 ZIP package.
- macOS Apple-silicon DMG.
- macOS Intel DMG.
- Ubuntu 24.04 x86_64 DEB package.
- Source archives.
- Debug-symbol packages for relevant platforms.
On the release page, confirm that the asset matches your operating system and CPU architecture. Use the checksums shown on that page when verifying a downloaded file. Avoid third-party mirrors.
How to enable the beta channel
For the Windows and macOS testing cycle, the OBS forum documented this path:
Settings → General → Update Channel → Betas / Release Candidates
UI wording can change between OBS versions, and some Linux distribution packages use their own update mechanisms. If the beta does not appear in the updater, use the exact GitHub release tag instead and verify the downloaded asset manually.

Beta 2 makes sense when you need to reproduce a 32.1 issue, test the redesigned mixer, evaluate Simulcast, or check plugin compatibility. It makes little sense for ordinary production use because later stable releases superseded it.

Plugin and hardware risks
The OBS release notes do not provide a complete compatibility matrix for third-party plugins, capture hardware, scripts, browser docks, virtual cameras, NDI, audio-routing tools, replay buffers, or control surfaces.
Check each plugin developer’s release notes and test important integrations separately. A successful launch does not prove that every plugin or capture device works correctly. Be especially careful with extensions that depend on OBS user-interface behavior, Audio Mixer internals, or source-dialog behavior.
Safer testing procedure
- Export or back up profiles, scene collections, and custom scripts.
- Record your current OBS version.
- List essential plugins, capture devices, encoders, and integrations.
- Prefer a separate test installation or portable setup.
- Use a copy of your production scene collection.
- Test scene switching, audio monitoring, capture cards, browser sources, Game Capture, Display Capture, recording, and streaming.
- Save an OBS log after any failure.
- Keep the previous stable installer available.
Known later fixes
Beta 2 was not the final 32.1 test build. RC1 recorded additional fixes affecting Beta 2-era behavior, including interrupted Image Slideshow transitions, untranslated strings, full-height dock defaults, Audio Mixer menu and monitoring-state issues, Studio Mode source visibility, HDR Media Source playback, and a macOS shutdown crash involving YouTube docks.
RC2 also addressed shutdown and Audio Mixer problems affecting Beta 1, Beta 2, and RC1. These later fixes are another reason not to treat Beta 2 as the best version of the 32.1 branch.
Recovery and rollback
If Beta 2 causes problems, close OBS and reinstall a stable release after backing up your configuration. Keep previous installers and exported profiles available, then recheck plugins, capture devices, virtual cameras, and audio routing after the rollback.

To troubleshoot before reverting, try a default theme and font size, a clean profile, or a new scene collection. For profile or video-setting problems, do not delete configuration files as a first step; that can destroy settings. Capture logs and reproducible steps instead.
Do not assume that every beta-created configuration will be perfectly backward-compatible. Backups and a test rollback are safer than relying on an untested downgrade.
Bottom line
OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 2 was an important testing build because it combined the new Audio Mixer, WebRTC Simulcast, and other 32.1 changes with targeted fixes. It is still relevant for historical troubleshooting and compatibility testing, but it is obsolete for normal use. Install it only when you have a specific reason to test this build; otherwise, choose the applicable stable OBS release from the official release page.
