NVIDIA announced a limited-time Monster Hunter: World PC game bundle on October 23, 2018—not a new graphics card. Buyers of selected GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1070 and GTX 1060 6GB cards from participating retailers could receive a game code. The offer and its redemption deadline have passed.
What NVIDIA’s Monster Hunter bundle included
The promotion, branded “The Hunt Begins,” offered one digital code for the PC Standard Edition of Monster Hunter: World with a qualifying graphics-card purchase. In a later holiday-season announcement, NVIDIA valued the game at $59.99; that was NVIDIA’s stated promotional value, not a guaranteed cash equivalent. The code could not be exchanged for cash or other goods, and the terms generally barred combining the offer with other promotions.
This was a temporary sales promotion for existing GPUs. It did not introduce a new GTX model, and the bundle should not be confused with the separate Fortnite content NVIDIA promoted around the same period. NVIDIA’s original announcement and its November 2018 holiday update describe the offer.

The 6GB detail matters: the offer did not automatically cover every GTX 1060 configuration. NVIDIA’s announcement named GTX 1060 6GB cards, and the terms specified the 6GB variant. A GTX 1060 3GB was not an eligible substitute. Even within a qualifying GPU family, the particular board-partner model and the seller had to be included in the promotion.

A qualifying GPU alone was not enough
Customers had to buy through an authorized participating retailer or online retailer, and the exact model had to be on that seller’s eligible list. NVIDIA said it could not provide codes for purchases from nonparticipating sellers. A marketplace listing that says “GTX 1070” therefore did not, by itself, establish eligibility.
For a buyer at the time, the sensible checks were the retailer’s bundle badge or offer description, the exact card model number, and the local promotion terms. Keeping the receipt and retailer-issued code was prudent. A used card could be technically eligible hardware yet arrive without an unused, valid code; a code bought in another country could also be subject to regional restrictions.
The November extension addressed qualifying graphics cards for the Monster Hunter offer; it did not make every prebuilt system containing one of those GPUs eligible. NVIDIA specifically distinguished the Monster Hunter graphics-card offer from system promotions.

Dates, regions and redemption
NVIDIA announced the bundle on October 23, 2018. Under the North American terms, the purchase offer ran from October 23, 2018 through January 7, 2019, or while supplies lasted, and the redemption deadline was January 31, 2019. NVIDIA’s November 29 update extended the offer through January 7, subject to availability. Regional rules were not necessarily identical: local terms applied, and some coupons had to be redeemed in the region or country where they were purchased. The North American terms described worldwide availability excluding China, subject to the other restrictions. See the published terms and conditions for those qualifications.
Historically, redemption required the buyer to install the qualifying GPU in a desktop or laptop, obtain the promotional code from the retailer, and use NVIDIA’s redemption portal. The portal performed a hardware check; the buyer then followed the regional redemption and game-store activation prompts. The terms also required the customer to meet the game’s age requirement. In practical terms, a code alone was not a guarantee of redemption if the required hardware check or regional conditions could not be met.
The promotion window and stated redemption deadline are long past. This is not a currently available bundle in 2026, and an old card listing that advertises the game should not be treated as proof that its code remains redeemable. The safe conclusion is that the published promotion has expired—not a claim that every individual code has been tested. Monster Hunter: World remains listed separately on Steam; buying it there is a separate transaction and does not revive the NVIDIA promotion.

Why these cards were paired with the game
NVIDIA presented the PC game as demanding and used the bundle to promote cards it considered suitable for playing it. Its August 2018 performance article reported a GTX 1070 Founders Edition averaging 61.4 frames per second at 1920×1080 in its stated test scenario. With the same GPU and an i7-6700K rather than an i5-6600K, NVIDIA reported 73.2 FPS. In another scenario it reported 60.9 FPS for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition at 2560×1440 with an i7-6700K, and 38.2 FPS for a GTX 1080 Ti at 4K. These are historical results from NVIDIA’s own testing, not independent benchmarks or guarantees for every PC.

Resolution, graphics settings, CPU, driver, game updates, cooling and laptop power or thermal limits can all affect performance. Volumetric lighting, ambient occlusion and resolution scaling are among the settings that can change the balance between image quality and speed. Factory-overclocked and reference cards may also differ in cooling, noise and sustained behavior.
The game’s current Steam listing gives a different kind of reference: it names a GTX 1060 3GB or GTX 1650 among the graphics options for its stated baseline, targets 1080p at 30 FPS on High settings, and notes that DirectX 12 requires a graphics board or video card with 4GB VRAM. Those requirements are not the same thing as the 2018 bundle’s eligibility rules, nor do they establish identical performance across systems. In particular, the bundle’s GTX 1060 model was the 6GB card.
What the offer meant for a buyer
In 2018, the included game had value primarily to someone who wanted the PC version and was already choosing among eligible cards. The GTX 1060 6GB was the lower-tier option among these three families; the GTX 1070 offered more performance headroom, while the GTX 1070 Ti sat above the GTX 1070. A buyer still had to compare card price, cooling, warranty, dimensions and power requirements. The game code was a bonus, not a reason to overlook the card’s suitability or pay an unjustified premium.
Today, those GTX models are old hardware, and this bundle is not a current reason to buy one. If considering a used card, assess its condition, power needs and warranty independently, and do not pay extra for an expired promotion. Anyone who simply wants the game can check its separate Steam listing; anyone replacing an aging GPU should compare current cards against broader gaming needs rather than this historical bundle.
