Verdict: NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 591.67 is a genuine, targeted Windows driver update based on Game Ready Driver 591.59. NVIDIA released it to address three specific problems: slight banding in SDR gradients, Digital Vibrance settings not applying correctly, and the NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray preference failing to stay disabled.
It was released on December 23, 2025, and is no longer NVIDIA’s current driver branch. For a new installation, most users should choose a current NVIDIA driver instead. Driver 591.67 remains relevant if you are troubleshooting one of those exact symptoms, reproducing an older software environment, or testing a known compatibility case.
What NVIDIA driver 591.67 is
NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.67 WHQL Hotfix is a GeForce Hotfix Display Driver, not a full-generation Game Ready release. NVIDIA describes it as being based on Game Ready Driver 591.59 and created to deliver selected corrections sooner than a subsequent complete driver package.

The published scope is narrow: 591.67 does not come with evidence of broad performance gains, a new game-support slate, or a general fix for every display, HDR, stability, or color problem. “WHQL” identifies the driver’s certification status; it is not a guarantee that every GPU, game, monitor, laptop configuration, or Windows installation will be regression-free.

What 591.67 fixes
1. Slight banding in SDR gradients
The hotfix addresses an NVIDIA-tracked issue, [5720512], in which gradients could show slight banding while the display was operating in SDR color mode.
Banding appears as visible steps, stripes, or abrupt transitions in an area that should change smoothly—for example, a blue sky, shadow, fog effect, wallpaper gradient, or test pattern. The fix is relevant when the defect appeared with the affected driver branch and can be reproduced under the same output conditions.

It does not mean that 591.67 eliminates every instance of banding. Visible banding can also result from 8-bit output, limited RGB range, monitor processing, HDR-to-SDR conversion, Windows color profiles, game post-processing, video compression, or a problem elsewhere in the HDMI or DisplayPort chain.
2. Digital Vibrance changes not applying correctly
Issue [5718365] concerns NVIDIA Digital Vibrance settings not being reflected correctly in the output image. This matters to users who adjust Digital Vibrance for games or the Windows desktop and find that moving the control produces little or no visible change, or does not preserve the intended result.

Digital Vibrance is a GPU display-output adjustment, not a monitor-calibration system. ICC profiles, calibration applications, monitor-control software, game-specific color processing, and other GPU overrides can affect what you see. A successful installation of 591.67 therefore does not guarantee color accuracy or resolve every color-management conflict.
3. NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray setting
The third fix, tracked as [5622213], addresses the inability to deselect “Show Notification Tray Icon” in NVIDIA Control Panel.

If the tray icon is only a minor annoyance, it is not by itself a strong reason to move an otherwise stable system to an older hotfix branch. A newer driver may also contain the correction, but verify the target release notes rather than assuming that it does.
Is 591.67 newer than 591.59?
Yes. Version 591.67 is numerically newer than 591.59 and is built from that Game Ready driver. However, it should be understood as a targeted update to 591.59, not as a conventional successor with a new collection of game optimizations and profiles.
The available NVIDIA description identifies the three fixes above. It does not establish general FPS improvements, better performance in every game, or broader stability improvements.

Compatibility
The preserved installer filename indicates a 64-bit DCH package for Windows 10 and Windows 11, covering desktop and notebook systems. The filename alone does not establish the complete list of supported GeForce GPUs. Check your exact GPU and operating-system compatibility on NVIDIA’s driver-download pages before installation.

Laptop users should be especially cautious. Notebook manufacturers may customize power management, Optimus display routing, firmware interaction, and external-display behavior. If your laptop maker supplies a customized NVIDIA package, check its driver guidance before replacing it with a generic NVIDIA installer.

As of the dossier’s August 18, 2026 status, NVIDIA had published later Game Ready and hotfix branches, including 610-series drivers. That makes 591.67 an older, superseded branch for general use. Later drivers may contain equivalent fixes, but confirm that in the release notes for the particular version you plan to install.
How to install 591.67 safely
- Create a restore point or backup. This is particularly important for a working gaming, editing, or streaming PC.
- Record the current driver version. Open NVIDIA App or NVIDIA Control Panel and note the installed version. NVIDIA says the driver type can be checked from the NVIDIA App’s Drivers tab.
- Download the installer from NVIDIA. Prefer the official support page or an NVIDIA-hosted file over third-party mirrors.
- Close games and GPU-intensive applications. Also close monitoring, overclocking, overlay, capture, and color-management tools where practical.
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Choose Custom installation when a clean reset is justified. A clean installation is not mandatory for every update. A normal upgrade may be sufficient for a narrow display-color issue; use a clean installation when the existing driver appears corrupted or the problem persists.
- Restart Windows.
- Re-test the original symptom. Use the same game, monitor input, resolution, color depth, and HDR/SDR state used before the update.
- Verify the installed version. Confirm that Windows and NVIDIA software report 591.67, rather than merely confirming that NVIDIA software is present.
Testing each fix
- SDR banding: Compare the same gradient, game scene, video, or desktop test pattern before and after installation. Keep output settings unchanged.
- Digital Vibrance: Change the setting in NVIDIA Control Panel, apply it, and confirm that the visible output changes as expected. Check for ICC profiles or third-party color tools if it does not.
- Tray icon: Open NVIDIA Control Panel, disable Show Notification Tray Icon, then sign out or reboot to verify that the preference persists.
If the installer fails
- Reboot Windows and retry with GPU utilities, overlays, capture tools, and monitoring applications closed.
- Confirm that you are running a compatible 64-bit edition of Windows and that the installer matches your GPU.
- Retry using the installer’s clean-install option if a normal upgrade fails or the existing installation appears damaged.
- If a standard uninstall or reinstall still fails, use Windows Safe Mode and a reputable display-driver cleanup workflow. This is a recovery step, not a requirement for every driver update.
- If 591.67 introduces crashes, display failures, or other instability, roll back to the previous known-good driver.
- Keep the installer, version number, Windows build, GPU model, and reproduction steps if you need to report the problem to NVIDIA.
NVIDIA also maintains separate support material for graphics-driver installation failures; the 591.67 support entry remains the primary source for this hotfix’s specific fixes.

When banding or color problems remain
If the original symptom continues after installation, compare the display chain systematically:
- Check whether the output is using the intended RGB range and color depth.
- Compare SDR and HDR separately; do not assume an SDR fix applies to HDR output.
- Temporarily test without ICC profiles, calibration software, monitor-control utilities, or GPU color overrides.
- Try the same content on another input or display if available.
- Use the same cable, resolution, refresh rate, and application when comparing before and after.
- Check whether the artifact appears in a screenshot or only on the physical display; that distinction can help separate rendering from display-chain behavior.
If the defect is not reproducible under the same conditions, the driver may not be its cause. Conversely, a successful driver change does not prove that every underlying color-management component is correct.
