Do not install NVIDIA GeForce 595.59 WHQL for a normal gaming or creator system. NVIDIA withdrew the Game Ready and Studio versions on February 26, 2026 after identifying a fan-control bug. Affected users were told to roll back to 591.86 WHQL; NVIDIA later released 595.71 WHQL, whose release notes list fixes for the reported fan-monitoring and fan-spinning problems.
595.59 was a genuine driver, not malware or a fake download. It originally targeted Resident Evil Requiem and Marathon, but its game optimizations do not outweigh the risk of using a withdrawn package.
What NVIDIA GeForce 595.59 WHQL was
595.59 was a Windows GeForce driver branch released in both NVIDIA’s Game Ready and Studio editions. “GeForce” identifies NVIDIA’s consumer graphics-driver family, “595.59” is the branch and build number, and “WHQL” means the package received Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs certification.

WHQL certification is not a guarantee that a driver is free of release-specific bugs or compatible with every GPU, game, motherboard, laptop design, and monitoring utility.

NVIDIA’s original announcement focused on:
- Resident Evil Requiem: support for path-traced effects, DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation on supported GeForce RTX 50-series hardware, and DLSS Ray Reconstruction.
- Marathon: Game Ready support for DLSS Super Resolution and NVIDIA Reflex, with DLAA available as an image-quality option according to NVIDIA’s accompanying game material.
Driver support does not make every feature available on every graphics card. DLSS generation, Multi Frame Generation, ray tracing, Reflex, and DLAA depend on the GPU generation and the game’s implementation.

Why NVIDIA withdrew 595.59
On February 26, 2026, NVIDIA said it had found a bug in both the Game Ready and Studio 595.59 WHQL packages and temporarily removed the downloads while investigating. It specifically advised affected users to roll back to 591.86 WHQL.

The documented symptoms included:
- One or more GPU fans failing to spin after the driver update.
- Hardware-monitoring utilities failing to detect all GPU fans.
A fan stopping at idle is not automatically a driver failure: many graphics cards intentionally stop their fans at low temperatures. The concerning pattern is a fan that remains stopped during sustained load, rapidly rising temperatures, or monitoring data that disappears after installing 595.59.
Reports in secondary coverage involved multiple recent GeForce generations, including RTX 30-, 40-, and 50-series cards. That does not establish that every card in those families was affected, and NVIDIA’s available material does not provide a complete model-by-model failure list. This incident also should not be described as proof that 595.59 universally damaged GPUs. The verified issue was a serious fan-control and monitoring regression.

What replaced 595.59?
NVIDIA released GeForce Game Ready 595.71 WHQL on March 2, 2026. Its release notes explicitly list fixes for:

- Hardware-monitoring utilities not detecting all fans on the GPU.
- One or more fans not spinning on GPUs after the driver update.
This means 595.71 is the documented replacement for the two 595.59 fan-related problems. It does not prove that every possible issue from 595.59 was eliminated.
NVIDIA’s driver history also shows later WHQL releases, including 595.79, 595.97, and subsequent 2026 branches. Because driver availability changes, use NVIDIA’s live driver selector or NVIDIA App rather than treating 595.71 as the current driver for every GPU.

What to do if 595.59 is installed
If the GPU is behaving normally
- Do not keep 595.59 simply because the computer appears normal.
- Download a later official WHQL package through NVIDIA’s driver selector or NVIDIA App.
- Install it using the normal upgrade path.
- After restarting, check fan behavior at idle and under ordinary gaming or GPU load.
- Confirm that your monitoring software detects all installed fans.
NVIDIA does not require every user to perform a third-party “clean” removal. Avoid adding unnecessary cleanup steps unless a normal installation fails.
If a fan is not spinning or monitoring data is missing
- Stop demanding GPU workloads such as gaming, rendering, benchmarking, and stress tests.
- Check the GPU temperature and physical fan behavior.
- If the temperature is rising abnormally, shut down the system rather than continuing to test it.
- In NVIDIA App, open the Drivers tab.
- Open the three-dot menu and choose the option to reinstall the previous driver, if available.
- Use 591.86 WHQL as the specific rollback version NVIDIA named for affected users.
- After the system recovers, move to a later official WHQL driver instead of reinstalling 595.59.
The exact NVIDIA App labels can change between versions. If the rollback option is unavailable, use NVIDIA’s official driver-download page or your laptop manufacturer’s support page. Windows Settings or Device Manager can provide a basic recovery route, but they may not install the complete NVIDIA package.

How to tell whether the problem is really the driver
Cross-check more than one signal:
- Confirm the installed driver version in NVIDIA App, NVIDIA Control Panel, or Windows.
- Observe whether every fan spins when the GPU is under normal load, without prolonged stress testing if cooling is uncertain.
- Compare the reported fan data with actual fan movement.
- Watch GPU temperature and power behavior.
- Check whether multiple fan-control utilities, custom fan curves, overclocks, undervolts, or overlays are running.
A monitoring utility can report a missing fan even when the fan is physically operating. Conversely, a fan that remains inactive under load may indicate a physical obstruction, failed fan, GPU firmware or VBIOS issue, power problem, or card-level fault. If the problem remains after rollback, contact the graphics-card manufacturer or laptop maker.

Game Ready and Studio drivers were both affected
The warning is not limited to gamers. NVIDIA’s advisory covered both GeForce Game Ready 595.59 WHQL and NVIDIA Studio 595.59 WHQL. Creators using Studio 595.59 should check their installed version and fan behavior as carefully as gamers.
Laptop and compatibility warnings
Before installing any replacement, identify the exact GPU model, Windows edition, and installed driver branch. Notebook GPUs can use manufacturer-specific thermal policies and customized packages. NVIDIA notes that although a GeForce driver may install on a supported notebook GPU, the laptop manufacturer may provide the certified driver for that particular system.
For a notebook, check the OEM support page first. A generic NVIDIA package may be appropriate, but it is not automatically the best choice for every laptop.
Do not rely on old 595.59 executable links or unofficial mirrors. NVIDIA removed the original downloads and later directed users toward the replacement driver. Archived NVIDIA paths may still appear in search results, but their availability and suitability can change and they are not a recommendation to install the withdrawn package.

Bottom line
595.59 was a legitimate driver with useful launch support for Resident Evil Requiem and Marathon, but it is now a withdrawn release with documented fan-control problems. Do not install it on a normal system. If it is already installed, upgrade to a later official WHQL driver when the GPU is stable; if a fan is not spinning under load or monitoring data is missing, stop the workload and follow NVIDIA’s rollback path to 591.86 before troubleshooting further.
