Short answer: NVIDIA GeForce driver 591.67 was a genuine hotfix released in December 2025, but calling it a conventional “WHQL driver” is inaccurate. It was based on WHQL Game Ready Driver 591.59 and targeted three issues: slight SDR gradient banding, incorrect Digital Vibrance behavior, and an NVIDIA Control Panel tray-icon setting that could not be disabled. Those fixes were later included in WHQL Game Ready Driver 591.74.
As of August 18, 2026, 591.67 is obsolete as a general recommendation. Use NVIDIA’s current compatible WHQL driver instead, unless you have a specific, reproducible reason to test an older version.
What was NVIDIA GeForce 591.67?
591.67 was a GeForce Hotfix Display Driver, not a major performance or game-optimization release. NVIDIA based it on Game Ready Driver 591.59 and issued it outside the normal driver-release cycle to address three narrowly defined problems.
- GeForce identifies NVIDIA’s consumer graphics-driver family.
- Hotfix Display Driver means an optional, targeted maintenance build released with a shorter validation process than a normal WHQL release.
- 591.67 is the hotfix package’s reported driver version.
NVIDIA’s hotfix policy describes these packages as optional and recommends waiting for the next WHQL driver when the listed fixes are not needed. The normal driver archive identifies 591.59 as a WHQL Game Ready release, while 591.67 was distributed through NVIDIA’s hotfix support channel.

What did 591.67 fix?
1. Slight banding in SDR gradients
The hotfix addressed slight banding on gradients when the display was operating in SDR color mode. NVIDIA tracked this issue under bug ID 5720512.
This does not mean that 591.67 fixed every form of visible banding. Banding can also result from an 8-bit panel, compressed or low-quality source material, incorrect color depth, HDR-to-SDR conversion, Windows color management, an ICC profile, a game’s rendering pipeline, or monitor settings.

2. Digital Vibrance not applying correctly
591.67 addressed cases where colors were not applied correctly when using NVIDIA Control Panel’s Digital Vibrance setting. NVIDIA tracked the issue as bug 5718365.
Digital Vibrance is a display-color control, not a performance feature. The symptom could involve the selected value failing to take effect, not persisting after a restart, or producing an appearance different from what the user expected.
After changing the setting, reboot Windows and test both the desktop and the affected application. HDR, monitor presets, ICC profiles, application-level color management, and competing NVIDIA software can make a driver setting appear ineffective even when the driver installed successfully.

3. NVIDIA Control Panel notification-tray setting
The hotfix corrected a bug that could prevent users from deselecting “Show Notification Tray Icon” in NVIDIA Control Panel. NVIDIA tracked this issue as bug 5622213.

This was a settings and interface fix. It was not a general Windows notification-area fix and did not necessarily remove every NVIDIA background process, overlay, or service. The exact option may also vary depending on the driver branch, Windows version, NVIDIA App installation, and Control Panel integration.
Was 591.67 actually WHQL?
Not in the usual sense. The most accurate description is “NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Display Driver 591.67.” It was a real NVIDIA package, but it should not be presented as a standard WHQL Game Ready release.
The distinction is:
- 591.59: the WHQL Game Ready driver used as the hotfix base, released December 18, 2025.
- 591.67: the optional hotfix released around December 24, 2025, with the three targeted fixes.
- 591.74: a later WHQL Game Ready driver released January 5, 2026, whose release notes included all three 591.67 fixes.
Therefore, “591.67 WHQL Hotfix” is understandable shorthand, but “591.67 GeForce hotfix based on WHQL 591.59” is technically clearer.

Is 591.67 still downloadable?
NVIDIA’s original support article currently returns an unavailable-page response. Contemporary reports identified the package as a Windows DCH installer for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 64-bit, supporting desktop and notebook GeForce systems. The commonly circulated filename was:
591.67-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch.hf.exe
A historical NVIDIA CDN address was also circulated:
https://international-gfe.download.nvidia.com/Windows/591.67hf/591.67-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch.hf.exe
However, that link should not be treated as a currently verified download. Do not rely on third-party mirrors or old direct-download pages merely because they host a file with the expected name. If you need the original fixes, use a later supported WHQL driver from NVIDIA instead.
Should you install 591.67 in 2026?
Generally, no. If you are installing a driver today, choose the current NVIDIA driver offered for your exact GPU and operating system. A current driver is normally preferable for game support, application compatibility, maintenance, and ongoing support.

Historically, someone still using 591.59 and experiencing one of the three listed problems could have installed 591.67. Once 591.74 became available, however, it was the better historical choice because it included the same fixes in a normal WHQL release. In 2026, both versions are superseded by much newer drivers.
Use a later WHQL driver when:
- You want the three 591.67 fixes without the hotfix’s abbreviated QA process.
- You need current game or application compatibility.
- Your system is already running a much newer driver branch.
- You do not have a reproducible regression tied to a newer release.
Consider an older driver only when:
- A specific game or application is demonstrably broken on newer releases.
- You can reproduce the problem and have identified a known-good older version.
- Your laptop manufacturer requires a particular validated package.
- You understand the security, compatibility, and support trade-offs of downgrading.
Do not install 591.67 merely because it has a lower version number, because a forum labels it “critical,” or because you want higher FPS. The hotfix notes do not claim a general performance increase, lower latency, security improvement, or broad gaming optimization.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Was 591.67 available through NVIDIA App?
Contemporary hotfix guidance stated that 591.67 would not appear in NVIDIA App and had to be downloaded through NVIDIA’s support article instead. It was not intended to be discovered or installed automatically through the app’s ordinary driver-update workflow.
Community reports also said that NVIDIA App could show an older driver date or outdated release information after a hotfix installation because the hotfix was not represented normally in the app’s database. Treat that behavior as a reporting mismatch, not proof that the driver failed to install. Confirm the installed version in Windows Device Manager or NVIDIA Control Panel.
Installation guidance
If you are installing a current supported NVIDIA driver—or historically installing 591.67 over 591.59—start with the normal NVIDIA installer. DDU is not required for every driver update.
- Download the supported driver from NVIDIA or, for a notebook, first check the laptop manufacturer’s driver page.
- Close games and graphics-intensive applications.
- Run the installer and choose Custom installation if you need control over components or want to select a clean installation.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Check the installed version in Device Manager or NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Retest the exact symptom rather than assuming that every display issue is driver-related.
For the original issues, use a relevant test: an SDR gradient image for banding, a controlled Digital Vibrance change followed by a reboot, or the NVIDIA Control Panel tray-icon checkbox.
If the installation fails
Use this recovery sequence:
- Restart Windows and retry the current supported NVIDIA driver.
- Disconnect unnecessary displays and temporarily remove GPU overclocks or undervolts.
- Check Device Manager for the installed driver and any error code.
- If the display stack is corrupted or repeated installations fail, use Display Driver Uninstaller as an advanced recovery step.
- Run DDU in Windows Safe Mode, then install a supported WHQL driver rather than forcing the withdrawn 591.67 package.
- If a newer driver causes a reproducible problem, roll back to a known-good supported package if it remains available.
Wagnardsoft publishes DDU as a utility for removing NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel display drivers. It is useful for failed installations, persistent corruption, or vendor changes, but unnecessary clean removal can add complications and erase custom settings.

Important diagnostic limits
- Banding: 591.67 addressed a specific SDR gradient issue, not all HDR banding, posterization, panel limitations, or poor source material.
- Digital Vibrance: monitor presets, ICC profiles, HDR, application overrides, and color-management tools can affect the result.
- Laptops: notebook manufacturers may customize or validate their own graphics packages. Use the manufacturer’s driver if NVIDIA’s generic installer causes a compatibility problem.
- Later-driver behavior: a later driver can contain the original fixes while also introducing unrelated regressions. Inclusion of a fix does not guarantee identical behavior on every system.
- NVIDIA App information: hotfixes may not appear correctly in the app’s update history, according to contemporaneous community reports.
